Svenja Thoes

About Svenja Thoes

Svenja Thoes, also known as Toasty to friends and colleagues, is a professional triathlete who specialises in middle and long distances. Parallel to sport, she is studying sports management (B.A.) at the SRH distance learning university in Riedlingen and working as a flight attendant for the airline Condor. In her free time, this talented athlete is also involved in aid projects in Condor’s target areas.

Svenja Thoes indirectly owes the start of her sports career to her employer. In 2012, the company organised an employee competition with the chance to win a starting place at the IRONMAN 70.3 in Mallorca, including flight and hotel. The lucky winner was Svenja Thoes, who, as a result, completed her first triathlon ever a short time later. There was great surprise when her race result qualified her directly for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas, where she secured the title of World Amateur Champion in her age group in the same year. Friends and observers quickly realised: Svenja Thoes not only enjoys triathlon, but also has the necessary talent for it.

In 2015, she then competed for the first time at the IRONMAN long distance event in Mallorca and promptly took first place in the amateur division. This also assured her of the qualification for the IRONMAN 2016 in Kona, Hawaii.

The dream of every triathlete to compete in the triathlon world championship, the IRONMAN Hawaii, thus came true for this ambitious athlete in the same year. Here she not only became Amateur World Champion in her age group, but was also the fastest amateur in all age groups and ran to the finish in a strong 15th place among the women.

In 2018, Svenja Thoes made the leap to becoming a professional athlete. A decision that – in view of her recent successes – she definitely doesn’t regret.
