Tim Hellwig

About Tim Hellwig

Tim Hellwig is a triathlete in the Perspective Squad of the German Triathlon Union (DTU). Tim completed his first triathlon in 2011 in Ludwigshafen at the BASF Cup. He celebrated his international debut in 2016 at the European Junior Cup in Tabor (CZE), which he promptly won. Although Tim Hellwig began the 2017 season with an injury and was forced to drastically reduce his running training in particular, he became the German Junior Champion at the age of 18 and qualified for the Junior World Championships in Rotterdam. He did not cope so well with the cold and wet conditions there but still collected valuable experience for his future triathlon career with a 17th place. In 2018, he came up trumps at the Junior European Championships in Tartu, Estonia, winning two silver medals, both in the individual and with the Mixed Team Relay. Tim had to cancel his start at the Junior World Championships at short notice due to injury. In 2019, Hellwig was only able to start the season late due to injury, but then secured the German championship title in the U23 in Berlin. In autumn he then accomplished two more firsts: His first podium finish in a Continental Cup race with third place at the European Cup in Funchal and his World Cup debut in Lima (20th place). One week later in Santo Domingo he even achieved a strong eleventh place in the World Cup.
He used the 2020 season, which was very short due to the corona pandemic, to set a number of milestones, such as 17th place at the World Championships in Hamburg, seventh place at the World Cup in Arzachena and victory at the Triathlon Bundesliga race in Saarbrücken. In 2021 he was able to take off and became German Champion over the sprint distance (elite and U23) and also won the German Team Championship with HYLO Team Saar. 2021 was also marked by international success: 2nd place at the U23 European Championships in Kitzbühel, 2nd place at the U23 WTCS Final in Edmonton and winner at the WTCS home race in Hamburg.
