A trendsetting home game: Hurricanes host Rebels

On Saturday (19 July 2025), things begin in earnest at the Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion in Völklingen: the Saarland Hurricanes face the Berlin Rebels – a hugely important match for both teams.
The starting situation is clear-cut. The Hurricanes are currently in sixth place in the GFL Süd, whilst the Rebels are in a solid third place in the Nord group with just two defeats. Both teams have one clear goal – to move one step further towards the playoffs.
It has been around two weeks since the Hurricanes gained new momentum from their 54:38 defeat of the Allgäu Comets. Bye week arrived at just the right time and now they are looking to the future. The match against Berlin promises to be a yardstick, as the Rebels are arriving with a four-match winning streak under their belts – and a familiar face on board.
Quarterback Connor Kaegi, who was wearing the Hurricanes jersey last season, is now leading Berlin’s attack. His stable rate and good running play have made him a steadfast pillar of the team. On the other side of things we have Walter Kuhlenkamp, who has increasingly been incorporated into the Hurricanes’ system in recent weeks. Who will shape Saturday’s match remains to be seen.
The statistics put the hosts ahead, especially for total yards and passing play. However, these numbers only matter if they make an impact on the field. The most recent encounter with Berlin, which was last season, was incredibly close: 39:38 to the Rebels – a result that many will still remember well.
What matters is if the team can put in a consistent performance. The match against the Allgäu Comets showed what could be achieved when attack and defence work well together.
As well as sporting performance, the atmosphere will also play a vital role. For the home game against the Comets, more than 800 fans came to the stadium to provide vocal support – including in the standing areas. The Hurricanes will once again be counting on the PubliCanes, whose backing makes a clear difference in tight moments and is a genuine factor.
If you want to come and watch live, doors open at 2 p.m. on Saturday before kick-off at 4 p.m. The stadium will offer a family-friendly programme of events with fan stands and opportunities to take part.
Tickets for the match can be bought online or at the gate.
