ADAC Saarland-Pfalz rally: chasing the title in front of a home crowd

Last year’s champion Tarek Hamadeh-Spaniol is seeking to gain ground on the leaders in the Deutsche Rallye-Meisterschaft (DRM) Nationals rankings.

The DRM is coming to Saarland on 28-29 June 2024. Like last year, the show start and finish line will both be in Schlossplatz St. Wendel. The schedule features seven special stages through northern Saarland and the Hunsrück. Hot on the heels of the Nationals ranking leaders, this race will feature the defending Saarland winner and DRM Nationals Champion Tarek Hamadeh-Spaniol.

The fact that this 32-year-old rally driver was able to win his class (NC4) at the 2023 Saarland-Pfalz Rallye might be seen as a good omen. However, more importantly for reaching the top group, Hamadeh-Spaniol and his team are currently performing well. The DRM Nationals defending champion is currently in third place in this DRM ranking list, which covers all vehicle classes. And his success trajectory is heading firmly upwards – the rally driver has chalked up two wins in three races. Following issues at the Rallye Erzgebirge at the start of the season, most recently Hamadeh-Spaniol has finished at the front twice. There will be a small but traditional change to the Hamadeh-Spaniol team for this racing weekend: like last year, after the first three races, Henry Wichura will be replaced in the co-driver’s seat by Anna-Lena Mergen. Together, the pair hope to repeat last year’s success and start catching up with the leaders in terms of both time and points. Hopefully, the Saarland team will not suffer any technical issues this time around. Whatever happens, excitement is guaranteed when the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rallye starts up in and around St. Wendel next weekend.
