Andreas Waschburger Swims two Historic World Records in New York

The german extreme swimmer Andreas Waschburger made sports history at the “20 Bridges Swim” around Manhattan. The world record holder in the English Channel swim and the Ocean’s Seven world record holder circumnavigated Manhattan in 5:32:14 hours, thus beating the previous course record held by David Olvera (5:34:58).

With his performance, Waschburger simultaneously set another historic record. His times in the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, and now in Manhattan resulted in a total time of 20:15:29 hours, improving the previous Triple Crown record held by Bulgarian Petar Stoychev (22:08:46).

The approximately 46-kilometer course led through the waters around Manhattan and, due to the nighttime conditions, tides, and currents, presented significant challenges for both the athletes and their support team.

When swimming around Manhattan, many things have to come together perfectly: your own performance, the currents, and the support team on the boat. Today, everything clicked. The fact that this resulted in two records makes this success particularly special for me.
