Cracker of a season launch – HG Saarlouis host Longericher SC Köln

After intense preparations, the time has finally come: on Saturday evening (23 August 2025), HG Saarlouis are beginning the new 3. Liga Südwest season – by heading straight into a real cracker. Longericher SC Köln are coming to the Stadtgartenhalle, an opponent who are one of the top teams in the division and will demand a high-class performance from Jörg Lützelberger’s team. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
A challenging, energetic start
‘This will be a real cracker of a match, as we are starting off against a top opponent’, was captain Tom Paetow’s summary of the mood. There is clear anticipation among the team:
We are ready, we are up to the challenge, and we have one aim: to win.
Head coach Lützelberger also views Longerich as a ‘particular challenge’, emphasising: ‘They are experienced and currently have the presence and depth of a top team. It will be a particular challenge for us to show how stable we already are.’
Like his captain, the coach is counting on vocal support from the fans and is convinced:
Together with our fans, we will give our all in these early big points.
The visiting team from Cologne have already put in a strong performance in the DHB Cup against second-division team Dormagen, only narrowly losing 27:29. Their recent encounters with HGS have been similarly tight: the scoreline in Saarlouis in October was 33:33, before Longericher clinched the second leg in Cologne 37:33. Fans can therefore look forward to an intense match battling for vital points.
Partnership with prospects
The start of the season marks a new era for HG Saarlouis: URSAPHARM Arzneimittel GmbH have been the club’s official sponsor since the spring of 2025. This partnership represents sustainable promotion and shared values – in both professional sport and working with young talent. The aim is to further develop handball in Saarland on both a sporting and a structural level. With over 1,000 members and more than 30 teams, HG Saarlouis is one of the largest handball clubs in the region.
We wish HG Saarlouis a successful season opener, a strong match, and an evening that leaves us wanting more. Here’s to an exciting season!
