Crown season begins for Michael Ledermann

The Seeländisches Schwingfest in Detligen on 25 May 2025 marks the beginning of the crown season for the Bern cantonal federation. More than a hundred wrestlers, including more than 15 Swiss nationals from the Bern cantonal federation and numerous top wrestlers from across Switzerland, will compete in these traditional Swiss wrestling competitions. Michael Ledermann is delighted to be appearing in his first crown competition of the season, after intensive preparations.
Ledermann demonstrated his strength at the Wislisauschwinget in Rüschegg Gambach on 27 April, finishing in equal second place. Four wins and one draw put him in the final against Adrian Walther, where he was defeated after twelve intense minutes. Despite this close result, his success highlights his status as one of the top Swiss wrestlers.
I can’t wait for the start of the season on Sunday
Ledermann said.
For us Bernese, things are getting started rather late this season, so I am even more hungry to be back on the sawdust. I am feeling fit and am excited to see if and how my intensive training will pay off. I am definitely not the only competitor who has trained hard, so I am even more excited to test my mettle against others, with an eye to the Eidgenössische Schwing- und Älplerfest (ESAF).
This year’s Eidgenössische Schwing- und Älplerfest (ESAF) is being held in Glarus Nord from 29 to 31 August 2025. It is the biggest and most prestigious Swiss wrestling competition in Switzerland, held only every three years and representing a season highlight for many athletes.
Given the high quality of the competitors in Detligen, Ledermann will be giving his utmost to try and stay in the running to win for as long as possible. His chances of winning a crown are good, but the competition is strong. Lots of athletes have spent the winter working meticulously, and the first Kranzfest competitions often highlight who is on particularly good form in the new season.
The Seeländisches Schwingfest promises some exciting bouts and high-quality Swiss wrestling. The competitions begin early on Sunday morning at 8:15 a.m., the final will be held at around 4:45 p.m. and the awards ceremony is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. The event can be watched as a live stream on TeleBärn and at schwingen-live.ch.
We wish Michael Ledermann a successful start to the crown season and some exciting bouts at the Seeländisches Schwingfest! We hope that his intensive preparations pay off and that he gains some valuable insights for his upcoming challenges. Best of luck and good fighting in the sawdust!
