Double wins for Søgaard and Caljouw: BCB beat Wipperfeld 4:3

On Sunday (18 January 2026), 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim won an intense 1. Badminton-Bundesliga home game. The Saarland team defeated 1. BC Wipperfeld 4:3, putting them up to second place in the table.
Neither team was able to field their best lineup, as there were international tournaments going on at the same time. For example, BCB had to enlist the support of doubles specialist Marvin Seidel in the men’s singles. He provided an evenly matched duel against Matthew Grimley, who stood in for Aaron Sonnenschein on the Wipperfeld side. Seidel won the first set and then lost the second by the narrowest of margins (12:14), after he suffered an unfortunate stumble. This resulted in him having to withdraw from the match with a muscle injury.
‘We don’t know how bad it is yet. An examination will reveal more in the coming days. But we hope that Marvin will only be out for a few days and that it is nothing major’, explained team manager Peter Käsbauer, who was delighted about the vital home win despite the squad planning issues.
Frederik Søgaard’s return in the BCB jersey also prompted huge enthusiasm in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. The Danish player quickly stepped up to become a match winner and provided two crucial points from victories in the second men’s doubles (with Mark Caljouw) and the mixed doubles (with Isabel Lohau).
‘It is great to be back in the blue jersey and be part of the team again. Those were two good wins today, and I really enjoyed the high-level matches’, Søgaard said enthusiastically afterwards.

Things continue for BCB with their next home game on Sunday 8 February at 3 p.m., when they will be welcoming SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen to the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle.
We hope that Marvin Seidel enjoys a rapid recovery and a speedy return to the team, and wish BCB ongoing success in their battle for top positions.
