Helen Kevric impresses at the Paris Olympics

Helen Kevric, just 16 years old, put in an exceptional performance at her first Olympic Games in Paris. In yesterday’s uneven bars final (4 August 2024), she was once again able to demonstrate her nerve and talent. She finished in an impressive sixth place with a total of 14.566 points.

Kevric, the last but one of the eight athletes to compete, completed a virtually faultless routine with a difficulty score of 6.4. Despite small issues with the Shaposhnikova and a hop on the dismount, she was able to further improve on her performances in the qualifying and the all-around final. ‘I had a few issues with the Shaposhnikova and then a hop on the dismount, which lost me some points. But everything is fine. I rose two places and completed my routine well once again’, Kevric said after the competition, visibly satisfied.

The German gymnastics federation were also very excited about Kevric’s performance: ‘How Helen has performed in Paris in the last few days is hugely worthy of praise. She is just 16 years old and has put in magnificent performances with incredible nerve. If she continues along this path and we do not set expectations too high too soon, the next few years will be very exciting.’

The youngest member of the German team can look back at a successful Olympics overall. As well as sixth place in the uneven bars, she also managed a hugely strong top-eight finish by coming eighth in the all-around competition.

Kevric’s impressive performance and her positive mindset offer hopes of a promising future for German gymnastics. We are excited to see what the future holds for this young talent and the German gymnastics team.
