Day win in Hanover – runners up after gripping season
A magnificent performance at the Bundesliga finale in Hanover secured HYLO® Team Saar their third day win in a row, leaving them German championship runners-up for the 2025 season. The team made their mark at Maschsee lake on both an athletic and a tactical level.
Strong lineup, clear strategy
For the final, the team managers nominated Emil Holm (DEN), Justus Nieschlag, Antoine L’Hôte (SUI), Niklas Keller (AUT) and Jaspar Ortfeld. The sprint distance (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run) was active right from the very start: after the swim, a front group formed during the cycle with Nieschlag at its midst. Behind him, Holm, L’Hôte and Keller were closing the gap – a promising starting position for the race.
The team’s tactics worked: the individual placings achieved by Holm (3rd), Nieschlag (9th), L’Hôte (10th) and Keller (14th) produced a place score of 36 – enough to secure the day win ahead of Süßen (52) and Trier (54). Ortfeld came 23rd, so was excluded from the place score total as the fifth-placed athlete.
Three wins, one slip – and plenty of nerve
The season began in promising form, but this was briefly halted by the race in Tübingen (tenth place). From there, the season became a battle to catch up with Süßen and Berlin. Successes in Dresden, Allgäu and now Hanover have highlighted HYLO® Team Saar’s consistency, team spirit and tactical flair.
Overall rankings: runners-up with style
Ultimately, this performance was enough to secure second place behind METALLART-Team AST Süßen, who scored consistently highly throughout the season. HYLO’s German championship position was dependent on how the other teams fared, with the two leading teams Süßen and Berlin both needing to fall behind. The Berlin team was pushed down into third by the Saarland athletes’ final spurt.
Season summary
The team management demonstrated a keen instinct for lineups and race strategies. All of the athletes taking part delivered and held their nerve – even in changing conditions and under high pressure. Although they did not win the championship, this remains a memorable season with three day wins, a strong squad and a clear statement to bring it to a close.
Despite narrowly missing out on the 2025 championship title, the team’s development shows that they are a permanent fixture among the nation’s elite. Experience gained from this season, both setbacks and successes, will be incorporated into preparations for 2026. The aim is still to improve consistency across all races and once again compete for the title.
With a well-oiled squad, Olympic champion Tim Hellwig’s return to the team, and a clear sporting focus, HYLO® Team Saar are optimistic about their upcoming challenges. Their direction is clear: stay ahead of the pack – and keep on growing.
