Jürgen Doberstein: title defence on 17 May in Koblenz

We at URSAPHARM are delighted to be hosting Jürgen Doberstein‘s press conference today. Together with his manager Michael Schultheis and Boris Röder (Head of Corporate Communications), the reigning world champion is presenting the exciting news of his next major fight and upcoming title defence.
Elite Saarland athlete and Global Boxing Council (GBC) world super middleweight champion Jürgen Doberstein will fight in his next major boxing competition on 17 May at the Karmelenberghalle in Bassenheim near Koblenz. This exciting duel will see him defending his world championship title, which he gained on 28 September 2024 with an impressive win over Twaha Kassimu of Tanzania at URSAPHARM Fight Night III.
Jürgen Doberstein has been training tirelessly and non-stop since his last fight in September. Despite the impressive victory that secured him the title, the champion has not wasted time and has been focusing his full attentions on his next challenge.
His intense, demanding training covers both physical and mental aspects. These include fitness training, strength training, sparring, nutrition management, mental training and strategy development. Doberstein works on his boxing technique regularly and invests a lot of time in footwork, punching technique and defence strategies. Sparring sessions with various partners are a vital way to prepare for different fighting styles and hone his reactions.
Overall, preparing for his upcoming title defence requires huge amounts of discipline and stamina. Jürgen Doberstein will be doing his utmost to perfect his skills and ensure that he is perfectly prepared for the challenge awaiting him on 17 May.
‘I am fully focused on defending my title. It is important for me to stay alert and active, which is why I have decided to compete in this fight now’, Doberstein noted.
I do not just want to defend my title, I also want to prepare myself for international challenges. I am ready to compete alongside the very best fighters and take my skills to the next level.
According to Doberstein’s manager Michael Schultheis, a look at the current WBA rankings clearly shows that Jürgen Doberstein has made it! For the first time ever, he is now in 13th place in the WBA rankings, making both him and his management extremely proud. This major progress is opening up new avenues for Doberstein in international boxing. His position in the top 15 of the world rankings means that he now has the opportunity to join up with other boxing associations such as the WBO, IBF and WBC. Only the top fifteen boxers in the world rankings are able to compete for world championship titles in these associations. Doberstein’s new position puts him on an ideal trajectory to make a name for himself in international boxing and turn his ambitions into reality.
Doberstein was born in Kazakhstan in 1989 and moved to Saarland with his family in 1998. He is married and lives in the region with his wife and three children. Doberstein is very down-to-earth and values loyalty and collaboration. Family is his first priority and the central anchor of his life. This strong bond gives him both the strength and the motivation to do his best in the ring. In the world of boxing, which is often tough and unpredictable, his family offers him the support he needs to achieve sporting success.
Jürgen Doberstein’s boxing career began at the age of nine. He is a multi-time youth and junior Saarland champion, southwest German champion and German championship runner up in the juniors category. By the age of 16 he was boxing in the Oberliga and at the age of 17 had already reached the 2. Bundesliga. His successes include the senior German championship title, IBF juniors world champion, and winning the WBF Intercontinental and IBF Mediterranean titles.
‘I am certain that Jürgen will provide a brilliant fight. He is in outstanding physical condition. This boxing match will be a real experience for all spectators, as Jürgen represents tireless dedication and passion for boxing’, Michael Schultheis explained. ‘His incomparable style, irrepressible will and tactical skills make him a formidable opponent in the ring. I am looking forward to an exciting fight and wish Jürgen every success.’
We are sending our best wishes to Jürgen Doberstein as he progresses. His impressive determination and his ambition are a model to us all. We are proud to be part of his journey and are looking forward to an exciting sporting event on 17 May.
