Saarland Hurricanes vs. Straubing Spiders – payback and excitement guaranteed!

On Saturday (7 June 2025), the Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion in Völklingen will once again be hosting an exciting American football duel. The Saarland Hurricanes are welcoming the Straubing Spiders for the fourth day of play in the 2025 ERIMA GFL season – and have a score to settle!

At their last meeting in September 2024, the Hurricanes were defeated 25:38. They now have an opportunity for payback in front of a home crowd. And although a new season brings new prospects, looking to the past provides a huge boost of motivation.

The stakes before the game: who will prevail?

Both teams are currently sitting in the middle of the table – making this match all the more important. the Hurricanes (1–2) are currently in fourth place, followed by the Spiders (1–3) in sixth. Both teams want points to avoid dropping away from the top half of the table. Excitement is guaranteed.

After a week of no matches, head coach Jake Lawrence’s team are heading well-prepared into their duel against the Spiders. They have recently upped their training intensity, and the return of numerous players who were out with injuries also creates more options. There have also been some changes within the squad, making it interesting to see how the Canes look at their home game in terms of lineup and play. Some new players have joined the team, including Walter Kuhlenkamp, who is providing fresh impetus as a versatile all-rounder.

Full programme from the morning onwards

The stadium will be hosting American football from 11:30 a.m.: the Saarland Hurricanes GFL Juniors team is playing the Wiesbaden Phantoms – an up-and-coming duel with real prospects. Anyone wanting a full day of American football delights should arrive early.

Once again, the programme of events will offer entertainment for all the family including hands-on activities, music, food and fan stands. And last but not least, the popular throwing stand will be back – a classic for young and old alike.

One aim: even more fans at the stadium

Around 1,200 spectators ensured a proper footballing atmosphere in the south west at the home game on 17 May. The Hurricanes are hoping to exceed this on Saturday – and successfully shape a new chapter in their GFL season with the support of their fans.

As always, tickets are available online or at the gate. Kick-off is at 4 p.m.
