Season finale in Coimbra: HYLO® duo begin World Boccia Cup 2025

From 8 to 16 November 2025, the international boccia elite are coming together in Coimbra, Portugal for the last major competition of the year: the World Boccia Cup. Saarland’s two national players Boris Nicolai and Anita Raguwaran will be seeking to round off a strong season with another highlight.

This is a particularly important tournament for both players: in the BC4 class, Boris Nicolai is currently sitting in ninth place in the men’s world rankings (as of 15 October) whilst Anita Raguwaran has made it up to eighth place in the women’s rankings. As a pair, the duo are sixth in the world. Both have made noticeable upward progress over the past year, highlighting their consistency and ability to compete on an international level.

Looking back at a strong 2025

2025 has been a season of successes and historic moments for the pair:

June

World Boccia Cup 2025 in Beijing

Raguwaran sensationally won gold in the singles, Nicolai impressed with strong performances, and together they took silver in the pairs competition.

July

European Boccia Championships in Zagreb

Nicolai secured the bronze in the singles, followed by a pairs silver with Raguwaran – Germany’s first European Championship medal in this discipline.

August

German Championships in Saarbrücken

Nicolai and his team won the title, Raguwaran took silver.

October

World Boccia Cup 2025 in Olbia

Nicolai triumphed with gold in the singles, Raguwaran won silver, and another silver followed in the pairs competition.

These results have not only increased international awareness of the German boccia team, but also showcased the two athletes’ personal development.

All eyes on Coimbra

The World Boccia Cup in Coimbra is the final touchstone of the year. For Nicolai and Raguwaran, the aim will be to end the season with another highlight and carry this positive development forward to next year. The pair are heading to Portugal with their heads held high following their recent successes – and have demonstrated that they can consistently challenge the world’s elite.
