Sebastian Jacob becomes new CEO of Saarland Hurricanes

It was intimated on social media and has now become official as of 11 a.m. today: Sebastian Jacob is the new CEO of Saarland Hurricanes. The former 1. FC Saarbrücken player has signed a three-year contract that officially starts in August.

From football to studies to American football

The Saarbrücken native was actually a professional football player, and other than a four-year interlude with 1. FC Kaiserslautern, played solely for 1. FC Saarbrücken. After numerous injuries, last year the 32 year old was sadly forced to hang up his football boots.

Even during his time as a professional athlete, Jacob was already preparing for a life beyond football. Off the pitch, he studied sports management and completed his bachelor’s degree in 2023. He is currently in the final stages of a master’s. After half a year off, he is now ready to slip the shoes back on, although this time for American football and in a new role.

I was met with great appreciation and shown huge trust in my conversations with those in charge. I was very drawn to the task I have here at a club with a long-standing tradition.

The aim: to create professional structures

By appointing Sebastian Jacob as the new CEO, the club is pursuing its aim of creating professional structures. The aim is to establish a business framework to advance spinning off the first team. Creating a professional division brings the dream of the German Bowl a step closer.

Spinning off the first team is a logical step in order to make the next leap in development. We want to grow on a sporting and structural level – and this requires clear responsibilities, economic independence and professional conditions. We have found the right person for the job in Sebi: he understands elite sport from his own experience, offers business administration expertise, and shares our vision for strategically further developing the club.

Jacob made history in Völklingen

The Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion is not unknown territory for Jacob – during his time at FCS, the club spent nearly four years playing in Völklingen whilst their home Ludwigsparkstadion was being renovated. Jacob made history here in 2020 with 1. FC Saarbrücken – as the first and thus far only fourth-division club to sensationally make it to the DFB Cup semi-final.

Jacob is now ready for a new chapter, which will begin on Saturday 7 June with the home game against the Straubing Spiders. Perhaps the Saarland Hurricanes and Sebastian will now be able to make more history together at the Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion.
