Spectacular transfer: Toma Junior Popov to play for BCB

1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim have begun the new 1. Badminton Bundesliga season with a real thunderbolt: top French player Toma Junior Popov is joining the team. The 26-year-old is one of Europe’s elite and currently sits in 15th place in the global men’s singles rankings. For the doubles, he and his brother Christo Popov are the reigning European champions and in 19th place in the world rankings.
Popov is no stranger to Saarbrücken – quite the opposite:
I always love playing in Saarbrücken. Many of my best performances have been here at the HYLO® Open. I am looking forward to also playing in the Bundesliga and cannot wait to give my all for the team.
BCB board member Frank Liedke was also enthusiastic:
Toma Junior is an absolutely world-class man who will be a real asset to us for both singles and doubles. He always provides a show on the court and his ambition will fuel the rest of the team. We are looking forward to having him!
This transfer emphasises 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim’s aim to once again be a force to be reckoned with in the championship.
