STRONG PERFORMANCE IN PARIS FOR GERMAN GYMNASTICS TEAM

Germany’s gymnasts have put in a strong performance at the Olympics in Paris in recent days. On Thursday (1 August 2024), 16-year-old Helen Kevric caused a stir in the women’s all-around final. With a total score of 54.598 points, the young gymnast from Stuttgart finished in eighth and thus gained a top-ten place among the 24 best gymnasts in the world at her first ever Olympics. Kevric, who climbed her way upwards through the world’s elite after qualifying in 13th place, performed a particularly strong routine on her final apparatus of the uneven bars to achieve a score of 14.466 points, bumping her up to eighth in the final rankings.
The youngest athlete on the entire German Olympic team appeared overwhelmed by the atmosphere in the Parisian gymnastics arena after the competition: ‘I can hardly believe I have had such a good competition. I am hugely proud. Competing in this final was an incredible experience’. Kevric explained, adding: ‘Now I need to catch my breath and then refocus on the uneven bars.’ Thanks to eighth place in the qualifying round, the young gymnast has also secured a place in the final for this apparatus.

Sarah Voss, the second German gymnast in the final, also fought hard right to the end. Despite some setbacks and falls on the vault, bars and beam, she achieved a total score of 49.999 points to finish in 24th place.
On Sunday at 3:40 p.m., Helen Kevric will once again be showcasing her talent and skills in the uneven bars final. Who knows what a sensation she might create this time. We are crossing our fingers and excited to see what she has in store! The entire German gymnastics team is behind her and sharing in her excitement!
On Wednesday evening (31 July 2024), 27-year-old gymnast Nils Dunkel from Erfurt was the only male German gymnast to appear at the all-around final in the Paris Olympics. Dunkel, who lives and trains in Halle, achieved 18th place with solid apparatus performances. This was particularly true on the pommel horse (his specialist discipline where he won a European championship bronze in Munich in 2022 and finished in seventh at the world championships in Antwerp last year), where he impressed with 14.466 points and gained the fifth-best score among the 24 gymnasts in the final.
‘I am satisfied with my performance, although I know there is still room for improvement. I can especially play to my strengths on the pommel horse’, Dunkel said after the competition.
This was a particularly special experience for Dunkel, as it was his first Olympics. He gained four places from his finishing spot in the qualification round, ultimately ending in a respectable 18th place. ‘I realised that I would not be able to make my way hugely far through this field of opponents. But I gained four places compared with the qualifying round. My competition was good, I am proud to have put in a performance like this and I believe that I represented Germany successfully’, Dunkel added.

The German gymnastics team can be very proud of its athletes’ performances. Helen Kevric, Nils Dunkel and Sarah Voss all showed that they can compete at the highest level. We are looking forward to more exciting competitions in Paris and will keep crossing our fingers for the entire team!
