SV Elversberg seek to give their all once again for away match
SV Elversberg are heading to face Eintracht Braunschweig – where they suffered a painful defeat last year that they will be hoping not to repeat.
SV Elversberg’s last away game of the year is just around the corner: on the 16th day of play in the current second-division season, coach Horst Steffen’s team will be playing Eintracht Braunschweig this Sunday, 15 December. Kick-off in the Eintracht stadium is at 1:30 p.m.
The team are highly motivated to build on their impressive performance against 1. FC Nürnberg and secure another successful result in Braunschweig. ‘The boys have been really focused this week and committed to preparing for Braunschweig’, Horst Steffen explained. However, his team is currently a few players down due to illness or injury. Final decisions on whether some individuals will be playing will be left until the last minute. ‘This is another challenge for us’, the coach emphasised, whilst also warning of their upcoming opponent’s strengths.
Although Eintracht Braunschweig are currently in 15th place in the table, the team have put in some notable performances, especially in home games. ‘I am surprised that they are relatively far down the table. They have put in some decent performances, but also had some results that did not match their performance’, was Horst Steffen’s view, adding: ‘They are very, very committed, especially in home games, and have a definite power, as we discovered last season.’ This is clear from a look at their home statistics: Braunschweig have gained 11 of their current haul of 13 points in the Eintracht stadium, making them one of the seven strongest home teams in the league. ‘When playing at home, they are particularly motivated, strong runners, and endless sprinters. Of course, their total points tally is not that reassuring, but they have still beaten HSV and Hannover at home’, Steffen noted. ‘Our boys know what they could be in for if Braunschweig gather momentum. We need to stop them from doing so and put in a similar performance as we did against Nürnberg – and then we could be going home with some points.’

Eintracht Braunschweig are also fighters. Coach Daniel Scherning sounded optimistic at the press conference: ‘We need to perform differently to last week and do much, much better. That is clear to all of us. It is about responding and finding a different way in. We know what we can do in home games with our fans behind us, with the power we have brought to the pitch so often this year. We are convinced that despite last week’s game, we can win the duel on Sunday.’
Scherning also had a few words to say about SV Elversberg: ‘They are still somewhat flying under the radar, but are already being taken more seriously in the league than last year. We are facing a team with strong running and play. They have variable attacks and lots of players who want to play freely and take risks. We need to hurt our opponents at key moments and show them that this is our home game.’ Last year, Eintracht were able to outclass SVE with their set pieces and robust style of play in particular. However, this time around Elversberg will be well prepared and will be seeking to avoid history repeating itself.
