SVE: morale remains high despite defeat

SV Elversberg lost 1:3 to SC Paderborn after a losing focus in the second half. Horst Steffen made a strong statement after the game.

The first half had little to offer, then early on in the second half, Carlo Sickinger put SV Elversberg into the lead from a penalty kick. But then things changed, Paderborn turned the game around and pulled away to a final score of 3:1. ‘We had our best opportunity in the first half with a shot that hit the post, which would have put us in the lead for half time. But then we lost focus, and were less precise as we got going. That does not work against Paderborn, and makes me angry’, Steffen laid things out.

When asked after the game about having hit the 40-point mark and the fact that they could play freely, Steffen answered; ‘I never said that, others did. Because we want to be good in every game, we want to gain points, we want to represent our jersey well. That is what we want and why we plan. So it is not about being able to play freely. We want to be good and gain points, so we cannot ever really play freely. But we love official matches and want to win the remaining three. I am not worried, there are worse things. We want to be good, look at the table and not worry. So I would not say that things are in the bag, but there are other things in the world to worry about.’ That says it all.
