TG Saar battle for final place

Saturday (30 November 2024) sees a crucial Deutsche Turnliga (DTL) competition for TG Saar: the team will be heading to Frankfurt to face Eintracht Frankfurt and round off the main league season, and need to win in order to qualify for their ‘home’ finals in Saarbrücken. 

‘Home’ final a unique opportunity

The final in Saarbrücken is a very special event, as it has returned to TG Saar’s home town after a long time away. As the joint organisers with DTL, the Saarland team are hoping to appear before a home crowd. From 7 December onwards, the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle in Saarbrücken will play host to the finals for the juniors’, women’s and men’s competitions.

Decider in Frankfurt

The situation for TG Saar is clear: Frankfurt are in third place so have already qualified for the mini final, whilst TG Saar can only guarantee entry to the finals if they beat their opponents.

There are two ways that TG Saar can reach the final: by beating Frankfurt, or if they draw and then Vinnhorst defeat Cottbus. If they lose, their low apparatus score means that they will miss out on a finals place. The team understands the importance of this competition and will fight to the end in order to make it to Saarbrücken on 7 December. 

Other than long-time injured athletes Maxim Kovalenko (foot surgery) and Waldemar Eichhorn (tore cruciate ligament in the first competition of the season), coach Eugen Spiridonov has a full squad available. Alexander Maier will not be present for professional reasons.

Fan trip to Frankfurt

To provide the team with as much support as possible and give themselves a home advantage in this away match, TG Saar are organising a fan trip to Frankfurt by bus. Fans can take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate TG Saar live and up close. 

Details of the fan trip on 30 November:

• Departure: 1:30 p.m. in Dillingen, Rundsporthalle car park
• Departure: 2 p.m. in Saarbrücken, Sportcampus Saar car park
• Return: 9:30 p.m.
• Cost: Bus journey 15 euros (paid on the bus), entry 10 euros (paid at the ticket desk in Frankfurt)
