SVE celebrate clear 3:0 away win in Darmstadt

On Saturday (8 February 2025), SV Elversberg secured a confident 3:0 away win against SV Darmstadt 98 at Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor. Coach Horst Steffen’s team were the stronger players in this away game on the 21st day of play in the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga and clinched a decisive victory. Robin Fellhauer, Maurice Neubauer and Fisnik Asllani all scored for SVE.

With this win, SVE demonstrated not only high-quality play but also tactical discipline. In an aggressive game, the team proved that they are able to prevail against physically strong opponents.

Steffen sounded happy after the win: ‘It was a hard-fought match. Both teams tried to find a way through up front and to defend well. Ultimately, our winning the match was well deserved. I am delighted that the boys have been rewarded for their fantastic performance.’

This win puts SV Elversberg up to eighth place in the table with 32 points on their ledger. Next Saturday, the team face SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the URSAPHARM Arena.

FCS Tischtennis secure vital points in international home game

On Sunday (9 February 2025), 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis celebrated a hard-fought 3:2 Tischtennis-Bundesliga home win against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau in Luxembourg. One particular highlight: for the first time in more then seven years, a TTBL match was held outside of Germany.

Patrick Franziska and Cedric Meissner gave Saarbrücken an early lead. Franziska dominated his match against Samuel Walker with a clear 3:0 win, whilst Meissner beat Yi-Hsin Feng 3:1. However, Grenzau fought back, and after Luka Mladenovic’s astonishing 3:0 defeat of Darko Jorgic and a hard-fought 3:2 win for Feng against Franziska, the scoreline stood at 2:2.

It all came down to the final doubles match. Cedric Meissner and Eduard Ionescu were playing for Saarbrücken against Samuel Walker and Luka Mladenovic. After an exciting match, Meissner/Ionescu secured a 3:0 win to allow their team to celebrate victory.

This win puts 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis at fifth place in the table with 18 points. On 14 February, the team will be hosting ASC Grünwettersbach in Saarbrücken’s Joachim-Deckarm-Halle.

Füchse Berlin start the year in strong form and extend Gidsel’s contract

On Sunday (9 February 2025), following a break due to the world championships, Füchse Berlin enjoyed a confident start to the second half of the DAIKIN Handball-Bundesliga season with a 36:19 win in their derby against neighbouring 1. VfL Potsdam. The two Danish world champions Lasse Andersson and Mathias Gidsel were the top scorers for the home team, with seven goals each. Fabian Wiede (six goals) and Tim Freihöfer (five goals) were also reliable scorers. Keeper Dejan Milosavljev saved ten goals and secured a confident win for the team against their cooperation partner.

For much of the game, we achieved what we set out to do. Our defence, including the duo in goal, was also good. This was a good start to the second half of the season and makes us hungry for more.

Jaron Siewert, coach

The world’s top handball player is still a Fuchs!

To kick off the second half of the season, Füchse’s CEO Bob Hanning also announced that Mathias Gidsel’s contract had been renewed until 2029. The Danish national player and current best world handball player, who transferred to Berlin in 2022, has established himself as the face of Füchse and their top performer. By extending his contract, Füchse are emphasising their major goals and the club’s long-term, sustainable further development with Gidsel.

Mathias Gidsel is hugely important for the club and the team’s development. This is a promise, not just by Mathias but also by us, to continue further developing the club. I am hugely impressed with his loyalty and commitment to Füchse. I am delighted to have Matthias Gidsel with us, both as a player and as a person.

In the fourth set, the proWIN Volleys tried to prevent their imminent defeat with an energetic start. However, the visiting team from Bavaria did not let up and gained themselves a few match points.
