Thrilling draw for SVE in top game on Betzenberg
On Friday (7 March 2025), SV Elversberg battled through an exciting top match against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, which ended in a well-deserved 1:1 draw. In the impressive setting of the Fritz-Walter-Stadion, with 49,068 spectators and 4,422 SVE supporters who had travelled there for the occasion, Horst Steffen’s team showed huge nerve and fighting spirit.
After falling 0:1 behind at half time, Elversberg fought their way back in the second half. Initially, numerous opportunities went unexploited, but Damar ultimately equalised in the 75th minute, to the delight of the SVE fans in the stadium.
Coach Horst Steffen sounded pleased after the match: ‘Overall, the point is fair. We had more opportunities in the second half than Lautern did in the first.’ Former FCK captain Carlo Sickinger was similarly positive about the draw:
I consider 1:1 to be a success. Playing in Lautern is very special. Not many teams gain a point here.
A detailed post-match report can be found here.
On Saturday (15 March), SV Elversberg will be welcoming Preußen Münster to the URSAPHARM Arena. After a draw in the first leg, the team will be highly motivated to clinch three points this time around.

Füchse Berlin: successful week in Champions League and Bundesliga
Füchse Berlin have enjoyed an eventful week with impressive performances in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga.
Champions League: dramatic win in Veszprém
On 6 March, Füchse Berlin secured a narrow 33:32 away win against Hungarian champions Veszprém HC. Tim Freihöfer scored the deciding goal just a few seconds before the end and led his team to victory. Despite this success, Füchse have missed out on direct entry to the quarter finals, as Sporting Lisbon gained the point they needed in their faraway duel. Füchse will now have to face Industria Kielce in the Champions League playoffs.
Bundesliga: scoring spectacular against HSG Wetzlar
On Sunday (9 March 2025), Füchse Berlin continued their strong form in the Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) and gained an impressive 38:29 home win against HSG Wetzlar. Mathias Gidsel and Tim Freihöfer were the top scorers for Berlin with seven goals each. This victory keeps Füchse in the running for the title, just one point behind leaders MT Melsungen.
Coach Jaron Siewert:
After the mental strain of Thursday, prevailing here today and gaining two vital points was in no way guaranteed. Now we are heading into the international break with a positive outlook.
After the international break, things continue with a derby against Magdeburg on Friday 21 March.
Perfect home day for 1. BC Bischmisheim
On Sunday (9 March 2025), 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim celebrated a safe 7:0 home win against SG Schorndorf. The team put in an outstanding performance in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle in Saarbrücken that gave the visiting team no chances.
BCB dominated things right from the outset and did not allow Schorndorf any opportunity to gain a foothold. They confidently won all seven matches, securing a perfect, well-earned 7:0 victory. BCB‘s players put in a strong team performance.
Their next challenge is on 22 March, when they will be welcoming 1. BC Wipperfeld to the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. The team are looking forward to an exciting duel against a strong opponent and hoping for vocal support from their home fans.
Royals secure third place with away win in Marburg
After their cup victory last weekend, on Saturday (8 March 2025) Saarlouis Royals celebrated a vital 69:80 away win against BC Pharmaserv Marburg. This win secured the Royals third place in the main round of the Toyota 1. DBBL, as ALBA Berlin also won their match against Herner TC so finished in second.
After initially falling 7:2 behind, the Royals then gained a better foothold in the game, and Gabija Meškonytė was subsequently able to equalise 12:12. A buzzer beater by Martha Burse gave Saarlouis a narrow 23:24 lead at the end of the first quarter. Things remained tight in the second quarter, but the Royals headed into half-time 38:41 ahead.
Saarlouis started the second half with a 7:0 run and extended their lead to 42:58. Successful three pointers by Hayley Frank and Magaly Meynadier played a particular role in the win. Marburg fought on, but were unable to claw back the Royals’ comfortable lead. This ultimately secured a well-earned 69:80 away win for Saarlouis.
The quarter scores:
Q1 23:24 | Q2 15:17 | Q3 13:26 | Q4 18:13 | Final score 69:80 |

Markkleeberg too strong for proWIN Volleys
On Saturday (8 March 2025), TV Holz’s proWIN Volleys faced Neuseenland-Volleys Markkleeberg for a 2. Damen Volleyball-Bundesliga Süd away match. Sadly, the Volleys were defeated 3:0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:16).
Due to illness, the Holz volleyball team had to appear without their coach, which made the task even harder. Despite the team’s commitment and dedication, they were unable to avoid defeat.
In the first set, play was initially well-balanced until 10:10, when the Neuseenland-Volleys pulled away to take the set 25:18. The second set was also hard-fought to 18:18, but Markkleeberg ultimately won it 25:21. Saarland began strong in the third set and initially took the lead, but were eventually beaten 25:16.
After this defeat, proWIN Volleys are focusing on upcoming matches to gain more points for the table. Volleys‘s next challenge is on Saturday (15 March) against SV Karlsruhe-Beiertheim.
BIKE AID gain valuable experience in spring classics
On 8 and 9 March, Team BIKE AID competed in the spring classic races of northern France, ‘Le Tour des 100 Communes’ and ‘Grand Prix de la Ville de Lillers’. After their success in Rwanda, the focus was on gaining valuable racing experience for the young team.
Near Roubaix, the cyclists had to contend with narrow country roads, tight urban streets and constant changes of direction. The races were very tough and a real test for the young riders.
Lennard Sternsdorff made his season debut for BIKE AID in France, but his competition was brought to an untimely end on the second day of racing by a fall and a knee injury. Fortunately, Sternsdorff has been able to return to training this week.
Simon Bak of Denmark also had his debut appearance in the BIKE AID jersey. He put in a committed performance under Leo Bouvier’s leadership but was unable to secure a top finish. For the team’s new additions, the weekend was an important opportunity to integrate into the team and further develop their tactical coordination.
BIKE AID‘s next major race is the Cholet Agglo Tour in Brittany on 23 March, part of the Coupe de France Cycliste Professionnelle.
Successful end to the GT Winter Series for Carrie Schreiner
Saarland racing driver Carrie Schreiner competed in the GT Winter Series races in Barcelona from 6 to 9 March 2025. She appeared in the series closer in a tried-and-tested Lamborghini Huracán Evo GT3, on motorsport legend Franz Konrad’s team and alongside teammate Danny Soufi.
Carrie Schreiner gained two outstanding third places in this weekend of racing. In the Sunday race, she finished third in her class. In the 60-minute endurance race, which she competed in together with Danny Soufi, the duo also gained third place in their class and the overall rankings.
Despite Carrie having missed two races in the series, she finished the championship in a strong third place for the GT3 class.
With these successes under her belt, Carrie Schreiner is looking forward optimistically to the new season and the upcoming challenges of the ADAC GT Masters.
We are looking forward to upcoming appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
