What’s new from the HYLO® Sport family
Our #hyloathletes have been putting in exceptional performances once again this week. We take a look back at the last seven days’ events and competitions featuring our athletes, teams and clubs.
Pure fighting spirit: FCS TT preserve chances of reaching the playoffs
On Wednesday evening (19 March 2025), 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis faced a vital Tischtennis-Bundesliga (TTBL) acid test against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt. With an exciting 3:2 away win, the team preserved their chances of reaching the hotly contested playoffs and once again demonstrated their huge fighting spirit.
After a difficult start that saw Eduard Ionescu lose his first match against Kanak Jha, the Saarbrücken team showed real will to win. Darko Jorgic put the team back in the running with a strong performance whilst Patrick Franziska secured the lead with a confident match. The deciding doubles was effortlessly won in three sets by Franziska and Ionescu, leaving no opportunities whatsoever for their opponents.
This success keeps FCS TT’s hopes of reaching the playoffs alive, and the final day of play on Saturday (29 March, 6 p.m.) promises a nerve-racking final to compete for the remaining spots.

Füchse Berlin top the table with win in Magdeburg
On Friday evening (21 March 2025), Füchse Berlin played an impressive DAIKIN Handball-Bundesliga away game against reigning champion SC Magdeburg. A hard-fought 33:30 win (17:15 at half-time) allowed the Berlin team to secure vital points for the title race, as well as moving up to the top of the table.
Coach Jaron Siewert’s team impressed with a cohesive team performance and strong nerve at the crucial point. Goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev shone with 16 saves and was a key factor in the win. Tim Freihöfer also put in an exceptional performance with eight goals, including seven converted penalties. Despite a strong pursuit by Magdeburg in the final stages, Füchse retained the upper hand and showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the fight for the championship.
This win keeps Füchse Berlin on track and shows that they are a serious contender for this season’s title.
Saarlouis Royals: perfect start to the playoff quarter-finals
Saarlouis Royals put on an impressive display in the Toyota 1. DBBL playoff quarter-finals and ensured a perfect start with two wins against Herner TC. In the first home game on 21 March, the Royals supplied top-class basketball drama: they triumphed 86:80 after two hard-fought overtime periods. Martha Burse was a particularly crucial factor in the win with vital goals at the crunch point, raising the roof in the Stadtgartenhalle. She was supported by a strong team performance with a consistent will to win despite numerous changes of lead.

The second game on Sunday (23 March) was similarly demanding for the Royals. After falling 30:35 behind at half time, the hosts began an impressive catch-up that demonstrated their incomparable morale. A strong final quarter ultimately earned them a well-deserved 73:64 victory. As well as Martha Burse, Erika Davenport and Jessika Schiffer also played a key role in the win with some vital points.

This double victory gives the Royals a 2:0 lead in this ‘best of five’ series, putting them just one win away from the semi-final. The next two matches will be in Herne on 28 and 30 March. If the Royals manage to keep up their form, the series could be decided the next time the two teams meet.
BC Bischmisheim fight their way to fourth before the playoffs
On 22 and 23 March 2025, fans of 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim enjoyed an exciting weekend of badminton in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. The last two days of play in the 1. Bundesliga main round determined the final positions before the playoffs. BCB secured fourth place in the table and will now face SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen in the playoff quarter-finals.
On Saturday, BCB were narrowly defeated 3:4 by frontrunners BC Wipperfeld in an epic duel. BCB’s points were gained by Ruben Jille and Marvin Datko in the second men’s doubles, Julie Dawall Jakobsen in the women’s singles, and the mixed doubles with Marvin Seidel and Linda Efler, who clinched the win in a hugely dramatic five setter. Despite battling hard, Marvin Seidel and Julien Maio were defeated in the first men’s doubles and Daniel Nikolov in the first men’s singles. The women’s doubles match also saw Julie Dawall Jakobsen and Linda Efler narrowly defeated in four sets.
Sunday marked a gentler end to the main round with a match against TV Refrath, where BCB impressively demonstrated their strength at home with a clear 7:0 victory. They claimed confident wins in all their matches, from the singles to the doubles to the mixed doubles. This success gives the team a boost of confidence for the upcoming playoffs.
BCB are now ready for their playoff quarter-final, a home game against SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen competing for a place in the final four tournament.
proWIN Volleys lose but show fighting spirit
On Saturday 22 March 2025, proWIN Volleys TV Holz welcomed TSV Unterhaching to the Multifunktionssporthalle Saarbrücken for a 2. Damen Volleyball-Bundesliga Süd match. In front of a home crowd, the Volleys were seeking to get back on successful track after a difficult March. Despite a fighting performance, they were defeated 0:3 (22:25, 23:25, 17:25) by the visiting team.
The match began in promising form with some lovely rallies and a committed performance by the home team. The Volleys kept pace for much of the first set but were ultimately narrowly beaten 22:25. The second set was similarly exciting, but Unterhaching once again enjoyed a better finish to clinch a 23:25 win. In the third set, the Volleys were no longer able to withstand pressure from the away team and Unterhaching gained a decisive 17:25 victory.
This defeat means that proWIN Volleys remain in ninth place in the table with 26 points and a tally of eight wins in twenty games. Despite their disappointment, the team are already turning their attentions forwards: their next home game against TV 05 Waldgirmes is on Saturday (29 March) at 4 p.m.
BIKE AID: Simon Bak shines with climbing rankings win
On Sunday (23 March 2025), Saarland’s Team BIKE AID competed in the Cholet Agglo Tour UCI 1.1, a prestigious ‘Coupe de France Cycliste Professionnelle’ race. Across 205 kilometres in driving rain and cold temperatures, the team showed impressive fighting spirit and put in a strong performance.
Simon Bak, a new arrival from Denmark, attracted particular attention. He pulled away from the main group early and stayed in a breakaway group for around 150 kilometres. During this, Bak earned valuable points in nine of the ten climbs, ultimately securing him top place in the climbing rankings – an outstanding success for BIKE AID.
The difficult conditions, including slippery roads and numerous falls, made the final circuit through Cholet a real challenge. Despite these issues, the team once again demonstrated that they can shine as a sporting outsider in top-class races. After their recent successes at the Tour du Rwanda, BIKE AID have underscored their strong form and their position as one of the international cycling elite.
April sees the team competing in three other races from the French professional racing series – a new chapter for BIKE AID, captivating audiences on a grand stage.
Technical issues thwart Carrie Schreiner’s strong run and podium finish
At the weekend (21-22 March 2025), Saarland racing driver Carrie Schreiner began the new Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) season with her Girls Only team. The team put in an impressive performance in the GT4 class on the legendary north loop and shone with strategic skill and pace.
A perfect strategy saw the team take the lead at times and hold second place for long periods – the podium was within reach. However, technical issues forced the team to withdraw around an hour before the end of the race. Despite this bitter loss, Schreiner emphasised:
I am so proud of everyone in the team and hugely motivated for the upcoming races.
Carrie and the Girls Only team are now looking forward to the season’s upcoming challenges with motivation and confidence.
Starting a new competition year with HYLO®: Justus Nieschlag impresses in Nairobi
Elite triathlete and HYLO® Team Saar member Justus Nieschlag has begun his season with a bang with an impressive second place in the sprint triathlon in Swakopmund (Namibia). After an intense five-week training camp in Namibia, the triathlete showed that he is perfectly prepared on both a physical and a mental level. In an exciting race, he was narrowly defeated by Greek competitor Panagiotis Bitados, sending a clear signal for his upcoming challenges.
The training camp in Namibia was a perfect opportunity to prepare for the 2025 season. Five weeks of rigorous training in Namibia paid off: Justus lined up on the start in strong form and showed his competitive strength at the sprint triathlon in Swakopmund.
Michael Ledermann: successful appearance at Abendschwinget
On Saturday (22 March 2025), Schwingklub Langenthal invited competitors to the 2. Langenthaler Abendschwinget in Markthalle Langenthal (CH). Our Swiss wrestler Michael Ledermann was in attendance.
Having won three rounds and drawn another three, the Swiss wrestler from Schwingclub Schwarzenburg gained a total score of 56 points and finished in position 6a out of a total of 105 participants at the Regionalschwingfest event.
Ledermann is now looking forward to a brief period of recovery before returning to the sawdust ring on 12 April at the Worbentaler Hallenschwinget.
