German gymnastics team: successful 2025 Rhythmic Europeans
From 4 to 8 June 2025, Tallinn played host to the Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships – with the German gymnastics team providing numerous highlights. Olympic champion Darja Varfolomeev impressed with gold in the ribbon final and bronze in the all-around competition, whilst Anastasia Simakova became championship runner-up with her ball routine.
Young talent Lada Pusch also made her mark: in her first ever European Championships, she reached the clubs final and finished in a respectable seventh place. The German group gained a milestone when their routine with three balls and two hoops secured a historic bronze – the first ever European Championship medal to be won by a German group team.
Germany narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the team rankings, coming in fourth on the same number of points as third-placed team Israel. Overall, the team are leaving Tallinn with the wind in their sails – the squad is gaining breadth and Germany are still able to compete with the very best.

Championship celebrations in Berlin: Füchse win first German Championship
Füchse Berlin have made club history! In the last day of play in the Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) on Sunday (8 June 2025), Jaron Siewert’s team clinched the German Championship for the first time ever with a 38:33 defeat of Rhein-Neckar Löwen. After a nerve-racking first half that saw Löwen leading 20:17, Berlin turned things around in the second half to round off an exceptional season with a title win. Tim Freihöfer (eleven goals) and world-class handball player Mathias Gidsel (ten goals) particularly shone in the crucial stages.
Füchse had already reinforced their title ambitions a few days earlier with a 45:35 home win against VfL Gummersbach. In front of 8,500 fans in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, Berlin put in a brilliant attacking performance and set a new season record with 45 goals.
This historic success was followed by celebrations in Mannheim and then back in Berlin that same evening. But Füchse will not be able to rest on their laurels for long: this weekend brings the Champions League final four in Cologne, where Berlin have an opportunity to round the season off with another title. Variable weather and exciting head-to-heads – Team75 defy conditions
From 6 to 8 June 2025, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany paid a visit to Zandvoort in the Netherlands for the third round of the season. Team75 Motorsport put in a strong performance in challenging weather conditions and secured multiple podium finishes.
The Saturday race was marked by variable conditions and exciting head-to-heads. Senna van Soelen started in fifth place, then quickly dropped back after a collision, but fought back to tenth by the finish. Daniel Gregor managed 17th place to secure third and a spot on the rookie podium, whilst Michael Essmann also reached the podium in the pro-am rankings with another third place.
The team once again showed fighting spirit on the Sunday. Van Soelen quickly jumped up to second place after a strong start, ultimately finishing in sixth. The race saw several periods with the safety car. Daniel Gregor defended his spot in the rookie class and came second, whilst Essmann once again fought his way to the podium with second place in the pro-am rankings.
These results in Zandvoort have given Team75 Motorsport valuable points, and they are now looking forward to their next challenge: they are heading to the Norisring on 4 to 6 July.
Difficult weekend for Carrie Schreiner in Zandvoort – focus on Nürburgring
7 and 8 June 2025 brought the second round of the ADAC GT Masters at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands for Carrie Schreiner and the Land-Motorsport team. The Saarland racing driver and her teammate Alain Valente had to tackle challenging conditions and were unable to reach their full potential.
Valente started in seventh place in the first race on Saturday, but quickly dropped back. After the change of drivers, Schreiner took the wheel and fought her way to eleventh by the finish line. The Sunday race was similarly challenging – variable conditions and a lack of pace made it difficult for the pair to get further forwards. They ultimately secured 13th place.
Schreiner seemed disappointed after the weekend and mentioned the challenging conditions, which made it difficult to tap the car’s full potential. She is now looking ahead: the team will use the experience gained in Zandvoort to ensure perfect preparations for the Nürburgring.
Hurricanes win – Sebastian Jacob becomes new CEO
On Saturday (7 June 2025), the Saarland Hurricanes welcomed the Straubing Spiders to the Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion in Völklingen for a GFL home game. The team prevailed 40:24 in an intense duel to secure a vital win.
The match began with a strong defensive performance from the Hurricanes, who put pressure on the away team early. Walter Kuhlenkamp scored the first touchdown as part of the very first offensive play with a precise pass to Evan Ligget. Straubing held their nerve and reduced the gap to 20:16 by half-time. After the break, Saarland finally took control: Kuhlenkamp increased the score to 28:16 with a touchdown run, then Marian Menden extended the lead with the third touchdown of the day. A final pass by Janis Kaiser to Ligget sealed the win.
As well as sporting success, the team also had some important news off the field: Sebastian Jacob was introduced as the new CEO of the Saarland Hurricanes. The former 1. FC Saarbrücken professional football player will be taking charge from August and seeking to further professionalise the club’s structures. The aim is to strengthen the economic framework, and in the long term, to establish a professional division. The dream of the German Bowl is drawing a step closer. More details about the new appointment and a recording of the entire press conference can be found here.
This success propels the Hurricanes into their next match with the wind in their sails. On Sunday (15 June), the team have an away game against the Ravensburg Razorbacks, who recently gained attention with a shock win.
TG Saar impress with strong team performance in home win
Early on Saturday evening (7 June 2025), TG Saar welcomed MTV Ludwigsburg to the Kreissporthalle Dillingen for their second home competition of the Deutsche Turnliga (DTL) season. The Saarland team built on their home advantage to secure their first win of the season with 52:24 score points.
TG Saar laid the foundations for the success during the first half. A narrow opening win on the floor (8:7) was followed by strong performances on the pommel horse (9:5) and rings (11:1). The team remained dominant after the break: they were unstoppable on the vault (10:3), parallel bars (9:5) and horizontal bar (5:3) and extended their lead.
Despite the defeat, Nazar Chepurnyi of MTV Ludwigsburg was the most successful gymnast in the competition with 13 score points. For TG Saar, Felix Remuta impressed with 11 points and Matteo Levantesi with 8 points.
This vital win moves TG Saar up to fifth place in the league table and gives them a boost as they head into their upcoming competitions, although these are not until September and then compressed into November.
Successful start for Raguwaran and Nicolai in Beijing
German national boccia players Anita Raguwaran and Boris Nicolai have been competing in Beijing since 6 June 2025. After arriving and completing some initial training sessions, the pair began the individual events of the Beijing 2025 World Boccia Cup on 9 June.
They got off to a promising start: both Raguwaran and Nicolai were able to win their opening matches. However, on the second day of the tournament Nicolai suffered two defeats, whilst Raguwaran won one match and lost the other.
On the third day of the tournament, Nicolai gained a confident win in his last group match. However, his two wins and two losses in the group stage marked the end of his individual competition. Raguwaran, on the other hand, won her last group match and then also emerged victorious in the semi-final. This has secured her a place in tomorrow’s women’s final for the BC4 class.
From 12 to 14 June, the two will be competing in the pairs competition, where they will be seeking to demonstrate their skill against strong international competition. We are crossing our fingers for a good rest of tournament for the Saarland players. The latest results, a live stream and a live ticker can be found at World Boccia.
HG Saarlouis forge ahead with squad planning – Polish new arrival
HG Saarlouis are forging ahead with squad planning for the upcoming 3. Liga season and have secured an experienced back-court all-rounder in Hubert Kornecki. The 33-year-old Pole is moving from first-division team Slask Wroclaw to Saarlouis, bringing with him international experience.
Kornecki played a vital role in Breslau last season and impressed with 124 goals and 145 assists in 29 league matches. He can be deployed flexibly in both attack and defence, and in director of sports Markus Baur’s view should bring greater consistency to HGS’s play. Sports director Daniel Altmeyer emphasised that Kornecki ‘offers quality in the back and up at the front’.
Germany is not new territory for this back-court player: he gained second-division experience with TV Emsdetten in the 2020/21 season. He is now looking forward to a new challenge in Saarlouis and would like to help the team reach their goal of being promoted to the 2. Bundesliga. After a medical checkup, he signed a two-year contract and is hugely excited about experiencing the atmosphere in the Stadtgartenhalle.
SV Elversberg appoint Vincent Wagner as new manager
SV Elversberg are beginning the upcoming second-division season with Vincent Wagner as their new manager. The 38 year old has come from TSG Hoffenheim, where he most recently successfully led the U23 team to a Regionalliga Südwest championship title. He is now taking on his first ever professional football team.
Sports director Nils-Ole Book emphasised that the decision to appoint Wagner was a deliberate one: ‘With everything that he has to offer, he is a very good fit for us.’ Wagner himself sounded enthusiastic about SVE’s play and wanted to build on their bold, intense style of recent years.
Wagner emphasised developing young talent in Hoffenheim and guided multiple players into professional football. He will now be providing fresh momentum in Elversberg with targeted additions to the team. The first training session is planned for 20 June, with work on the squad continuing until then.

We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
