What’s new from the HYLO® Sport family

Whether inside, in water or on turf, our #hyloathletes have been back out competing with passion and dedication during the past week – we take a look back at the last seven days’ events and competitions featuring our athletes, teams and clubs.

Waschi completes stage six – successful Catalina Channel crossing

On Sunday 3 August 2025 at 11 p.m. local time (Monday 4 August 8 a.m. CET), Andreas Waschburger began the sixth stage in his Ocean’s Seven project: crossing the Catalina Channel. After some 34 kilometres in the cold waters of the Pacific, facing night-time, currents and animal companions, he reached the Rancho Palos Verdes coast near Los Angeles in 7:58 hours

This milestone means that Andreas has now completed six of the seven stages and is within striking distance of his goal of completing the Ocean’s Seven in record time. In just under four weeks he will be facing the final challenge in his adventure: crossing the North Channel (Ireland – Scotland), probably the hardest section of the Ocean’s Seven.

Full details of Waschi’s Ocean’s Seven attempt can be found in our story or on our YouTube channel

HYLO® athletes shine at Finals 2025

Finals 2025 in Dresden from 31 July to 3 August was one of the highlights of the summer – and the HYLO® sport family was at the heart of the action. Our #hyloathletes put in strong performances in the gymnastics hall, at the stadium and on the triathlon routes:

The German gymnastics team put in a united and versatile performance. In artistic gymnastics, Karina Schönmaier and Timo Eder both won gold in the all-around competition, and there were numerous other titles and podium places, plus some surprises in the individual competitions. Trampolining also brought medals – including for Aileen Rösler and Caio Lauxtermann of MTV Bad Kreuznach. Rhythmic gymnastics was dominated by Darja Varfolomeev with five gold medals, whilst TV Dahn and TB Oppau were successful in the group competition.

HYLO® Team Saar similarly had numerous podium finishes: silver in the mixed team relay, championship bronze in the individual sprint distance for Lasse Nygaard-Priester, and a triathlon Bundesliga day win for the men’s team (which once again included Justus Nieschlag), completing a strong performance against the backdrop of the old town.

HYLO® also had some throwers competing in track and field: Daniel Jasinski and Max Dehning gained valuable experience in the German championships. Jasinski battled to fourth place in the discus with a strong final attempt. Dehning reached sixth place in the javelin, continuing his promising technical development. Both athletes impressed with their attitude and willingness to learn in the challenging conditions at the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion.

Further details, overviews and medal round-ups can be found in our full news report.

HYLO® NEXT GEN: Klönhammer and Klose celebrate second wins of the season

On 2 and 3 August 2025, the HYLO® PDC Europe NEXT GEN young talent series came to the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen with tournaments 8 and 9. Both days of play were live streamed via the HYLO® NEXT GEN event page from the knockout stages.

The series is aimed at talented darts players from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein who do not hold a Tour Card. Across a total of 15 tournaments, they battle it out for not just prize money and ranking points, but also the opportunity to qualify via NEXT GEN for the HYLO® Super League – and potentially also reach the world championships in Ally Pally.

On Saturday, Michael Klönhammer secured his second title of the season. Sunday’s winner was Daniel Klose, also for the second time this year. The two are sitting just behind table leader Oliver Müller in the rankings.

The tournament mode, level of play and field of competitors in Sindelfingen all reflected the series’s professional standards – with up to 256 starters and formats such as ‘double in double out’ and ‘master out’ demanding maximum precision from the players.

For more information about the series and to register, visit the HYLO® NEXT GEN event page.

Happy start to the season – SVE gain late reward against Nürnberg

On 2 August 2025, SV Elversberg celebrated their first ever second-division season opener win. In an intense match against 1. FC Nürnberg, central defender Maximilian Rohr scored the crucial goal with a header in the final minute. The team had previously missed multiple good opportunities and put in a committed performance despite some issues with coordination.

One particularly impressive moment was goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof’s save in stoppage time: after a dangerous free kick, he pushed the ball over the crossbar with his fingertips, preserving three points against the Franconian favourites.

Four new additions in the starting eleven, an emotional goal to take the lead, and a tactically played match with increasing control – manager Vincent Wagner’s team showed that they can put their preparations behind them and get going in the league.

More impressions of and thoughts on the match can be found in the detailed news report.

Next day of play: SVE are travelling to meet VfL Bochum this weekend. After Bochum’s 1:4 defeat in their opening match, Elversberg can expect an opponent seeking redemption – an endurance test that promises plenty of excitement.

Rallye Mittelrhein: Tarek dominates NC4 class

On 2 and 3 August 2025, Föhren played host to the Rallye ADAC Mittelrhein, the fourth of six races in the Deutsche Rallye Meisterschaft (DRM) championship. Joining the fray were Tarek Hamadeh-Spaniol of Saarbrücken and his Berlin-based co-driver Henry Wichura in their Citroën C2 Challenge.

Only six teams were competing in the NC4 class, with only four actually making it to the starting line, but the small scale of the lineup did not reduce the importance of the race. The HYLO® duo took the lead from the very first special stage and retained it right through to the end. Tarek and Henry secured the class win with a lead of nearly twelve minutes, on a technically challenging route against the breathtaking backdrop of the Mosel’s tightly packed vineyards and through the Eifel mountains.

The points awarded in the DRM Nationals are based not just on position, but also on the number of competitors per class. In a direct duel with Walter Gromöller, who also won the larger NC2 class, this means swapping spots in the table, despite four wins and a perfect season so far for the Saarland native.

With four out of six races down, Tarek is in second place in the DRM Nationals with 36.14 points, just behind Gromöller and co-driver René Meier (36.53 points). There is still all to play for in the championship – and Tarek is looking forward to a home event in St. Wendel in just under two weeks.

Hornets end regular season with away split in Darmstadt

On 2 August 2025, the Saarlouis Hornets enjoyed their last day of play in the 2. Baseball-Bundesliga Südwest regular season at Memory Field in Darmstadt. The team from Saarland managed a win and a loss in their double-header against the Whippets – a split achieved in difficult staffing circumstances.

In the first match, a faultless performance by the defence and a comprehensive game by pitcher Yannick Petry ensured a 3:1 away win. Clear focus and stable control secured the Hornets a well-earned victory.

The second match, on the other hand, ended with a 12:2 defeat under the mercy rule. Limited pitching resources (Petry was the only starter, supported on the mound by relievers and position players) meant that the Hornets were unable to keep up pressure on their hosts.

Nevertheless, match day represented progress in their youth development work: the two young players Kilian Rahn and Maxime Dupré gained valuable game time and supported the team structure with stable performances.

Whether the Hornets will be the second or third placed team when they reach the playoffs depends on how the remaining league matches turn out. This will become clear in the next few days.

Nicolai and Raguwaran win gold and silver at German Boccia Championships

On 1 and 2 August 2025, Saarbrücken-Gersweiler played host to the 20th German Boccia Championships. A total of 18 three-person teams from across Germany battled for national titles across the two days of the tournament – which was opened by Saarland’s Minister of the Interior Reinhold Jost, who was attending the event as its patron.

National player Boris Nicolai won the title undefeated with BRS Gersweiler 1. In the final they defeated the BRS Gersweiler 2 team, which contained Anita Raguwaran. This meant that she also secured a strong second place. Bronze went to the BSG Hintereben team from Bavaria.

This long-standing tournament thus marked a successful home appearance for the two HYLO® athletes from Saarland – with gold and silver podium spots.

Fighting spirit and finishes – Gabriel Clemens impresses at Players Championship

On 29 and 30 July 2025, the PDC Players Championship arrived at Halle 39 in Hildesheim with tournaments 22 and 23. Saarland darts pro Gabriel Clemens had two pleasing tournament days – a last-sixteen appearance and another board final meant that the ‘German Giant’ has won not only vital ranking points but also total prize money of 4,000 pounds.

On the first tournament day (PC22), Clemens enjoyed a strong start with wins against Martijn Dragt, Jeffrey Sparidaans and Jermaine Wattimena. The German showed particular fighting spirit against Sparidaans to turn the match around after falling 3:5 behind. in the board final, Clemens made his mark with a 12-darter alongside a 123 finish. In the subsequent last-sixteen match, he narrowly lost 5:6 to Danny Noppert – despite clawing his way back from 1:4 down.

In the second tournament (PC23), Clemens once again played his way confidently through the early rounds. He clinched 73 points at a crucial moment to win his match against Jack Tweddell. Against Tom Sykes, he showed his class with a 144 finish and a 13-darter in the tenth peg. The board final then marked the end of the line – Wattimena got his own back with a 6:4 win, with a 157 checkout by the Dutch player bringing his tournament to a close.

Thanks to consistent performances on both days and a clear message sent at crucial points, Clemens is still a solid backbone of German darts.

Tour d’Alsace: BIKE AID back in racing action

From 30 July to 3 August 2025, Team BIKE AID competed in the Tour d’Alsace in France, a five-day UCI 2.2 stage race. The focal point of this was Antoine Berlin’s return to racing – around three months after suffering seven broken ribs from a nasty fall. Lining up for the Tour d’Alsace put the cyclist from Monaco back on the road, where he completed all of the stages through to the finish at Champ du Feu.

The team were compactly placed in the final rankings: Oliver Mattheis ended the race in 17th place, followed by Anton Schiffer (20th), Yoel Habteab (85th), Milkias Maekele (86th) and Antoine Berlin himself in 88th. All five riders reached the finish line on Sunday within the prescribed time limit.

BIKE AID continued its international racing season in France with the Tour d’Alsace and is now looking ahead to upcoming events. Their next racing appearance is just around the corner: from 6 to 8 August, the team are heading back to France for the Tour de l’Ain (UCI 2.1).

Test match win for HGS – Saarland beat Swiss first division team

On Saturday evening (2 August), HG Saarlouis enjoyed a 33:31 win against Swiss first-division team HSC Suhr Aarau, a well-earned reward for three days off at the end of their fifth day of preparations for the new season. Although test matches are rarely judged on their final scores, the third-division team from Saarland put in a focused performance and managed some clear highlights of play – not least in terms of mindset.

The duel was evenly matched to begin with, until the Saarland team increasingly shook off their reverence for the first-division side after Lars Weissgerber’s equaliser. Goals by Yves Kunkel and Hubert Kornecki established an initial lead, then Tom Paetow dominated parts of the match to net a 16:10 score. A deflected free throw by Sven Eberlein put things at 19:13 for half time.

After the break, Suhr Aarau played a much more physical game and temporarily reduced the lead to 22:20 and later even 31:31. However, HGS were resilient: a converted penalty by Elyas Noh and a goal by Weissgerber into an empty net secured the win in the final moments.

After the match, head coach Jörg Lützelberger mentioned perceptible progress throughout all stages of the match. The team focused on turning the tide and enjoyed a well-deserved win.

Füchse Berlin end first phase of preparations with strong performance

Füchse Berlin completed the first phase of their 2025/26 season preparations with a fruitful training camp and a successful lightning tournament. From 28 July to 2 August, the capital club were once again staying at Spreewelten Hotel Lübbenau – for the seventh time in a row. Thanks to perfect conditions, intense athletics and strength sessions, and countless team-building moments, they have formed a highly motivated, solid collective for the upcoming Bundesliga season.

This was rounded off by a lightning tournament against TSG Lübbenau 63 and HV Grün-Weiß Werder on 1 August. Coach Jaron Siewert’s team clearly defeated their Lübbenau hosts 25:10 – and Leo Prantner shone as the top scorer with six goals. In the second match against Grün-Weiß Werder, the team put in another confident performance to win 28:18. Mijajlo Marsenic and new arrival Tobias Grøndahl were particularly impressive with four goals each.

Coach Siewert appeared satisfied: ‘These were two very fair and fast-paced matches, offering strong preparation under perfect conditions. With no injuries and a large crowd, that was a very satisfying end for us.’

Füchse now have three free days to recover before heading into the second stage of preparations full of energy.

We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
