Elversberg battle on – Bochum take advantage of extra man

84 minutes with a man down – but still evenly matched: SV Elversberg lost 2:0 to VfL Bochum on Sunday (10 August 2025). In front of 24,207 spectators, including around 900 SVE fans who made the journey, the match took a decisive turn in its early stages. After an early foul and a handball, Jan Gyamerah received a red card from a second yellow in the sixth minute – meaning that Elversberg were a man down for virtually the entire match.

Despite being short-staffed, Vincent Wagner’s team put in a disciplined, fighting performance. The first half ended without a goal, due in part to Elversberg’s attentive defending of set pieces and dangerous counter-attacks. Bochum amped up the pressure in the second half and took advantage of two late opportunities: Ibrahima Sissoko scored after a corner (66th minute), then Gerrit Holtmann added the final goal in stoppage time.

Despite the defeat, manager Wagner had words of praise for his team:

The boys gave their all, threw themselves at everything, and played bold football in the first half in particular.

A full analysis of the match can be found in our HYLO® SPORT news report.

On Sunday (6 p.m.), SVE face SSV Ulm in the first round of the DFB Cup.

Spotlight on darts talent – HYLO® NEXT GEN tournaments 10 and 11

On 9 and 10 August 2025, HYLO® PDC Europe NEXT GEN was back at the Glaspalast Sindelfingen. The second season of this young talent series continued with tournaments  10 and 11 – both streamed live on hylo.sport from the knockout rounds.

On Saturday, Daniel Klose secured his third title of the season with a 6:1 win against Jannis Barkhausen. A day later, Patrick Klingelhöfer triumphed in FA Cup mode with 6:5 against Paul Krohne to celebrate his first tournament win. This gave both players vital points for the overall rankings.

With eleven out of fifteen tournaments complete, Daniel Klose is leading the Order of Merit with €6,385 of prize money, followed by Oliver Müller and Michael Klönhammer. Klingelhöfer’s win puts him up to fourth place.

As well as prize money and match practice, it also offers the opportunity to qualify for the HYLO® PDC Europe Super League – and thus the darts world championship in Ally Pally.

It continues on 23 and 24 August with tournaments 12 and 13 in Kalkar – and back live at hylo.sport.

Team75 Motorsport – setbacks and podium at Nürburgring

From 8 to 10 August 2025, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany took up residence at the Nürburgring for the fifth weekend of the season. For the Palatinate Team75 Motorsport, this was a weekend of mixed feelings: whilst youngster Senna van Soelen had to withdraw early on both days due to crashes, old-hand Michael Essmann provided some consolation with third place in the pro-am rankings on Sunday.

Senna demonstrated his potential with fifth place in the qualifying for the Saturday race (race 9), but was forced to withdraw early after a major knock. Michael Essmann made his way up to 20th place after a difficult start and gained valuable points from his fifth place in the pro-am rankings.

Sunday (race 10) brought more bad luck for Senna: after a strong start and a brief period in the top ten, his race came to an early end after a tyre failure. Michael, on the other hand, battled his way up the field to third place in the pro-am rankings – a small silver lining for the team.

Team boss Jennifer Leising said in summary of the weekend:

For Senna, this was unfortunately a weekend to forget. Michael fought back well from his Norisring crash and sent a strong message with his podium finish.

Things continue for Team75 Motorsport with the sixth weekend at the Sachsenring (22-24 August).

German gymnasts gain medals at World Games

From 8 to 10 August 2025, the German gymnastics team competed in the non-Olympic trampolining disciplines at the World Games in Chengdu (China). A strong performance in the synchronised event secured a bronze medal for Fabian Vogel and Caio Lauxtermann – a highlight for the German Gymnastics Federation.

After a solid performance in the qualifying, coming in third, the reigning world champions were defeated by Portugal in the semi-finals. They then demonstrated their skill in the third place playoffs by being the only pair to complete a faultless routine, earning them 52.450 points – and the bronze.

National coach Katarina Prokesova offered her praise:

The boys were fantastically well prepared and we wanted to win – that was the plan. Of course, things could have gone differently, but I am sure that ultimately, delight in clinching the bronze will win out.

Anastasia Heinrich competed for Germany in the double mini-trampoline event. Although she did not chalk up a medal, she gained valuable international experience on the big stage.

The World Games serve as a vital showcase for non-Olympic disciplines – and the German gymnastics team put in an impressive performance.

Tour de l’Ain: united performance by BIKE AID

From 6 to 8 August 2025, Team BIKE AID competed in the UCI 2.1 stage race the Tour de l’Ain in France. This three-day circuit covered some challenging routes with various climbs, some of which were rated HC. Oliver Mattheis proved particularly consistent and finished in 15th in the overall rankings.

BIKE AID was already making it into breakaway groups by the first stage – with Yoel Habteab gaining initial points. On the second day, which marked the first climb, Mattheis stayed with the second group to finish in 14th. He also proved solid in the final stage with multiple difficult climbs, securing him 15th place overall.

Alongside Mattheis, riders Antoine Berlin (40th), Yoel Habteab (58th) and Anton Lennemann (67th) all reached the finish line within the time limit. The team played an active role in the races on all days and made their presence known at crucial points – putting them in 12th in the overall team rankings.

These three intense days are now followed by a brief period of recovery, before BIKE AID line up again for the Deutschland Tour (UCI 2.Pro) on 20 August.

Justus Nieschlag finishes 14th at T100 Triathlon in London

Justus Nieschlag lined up for the fourth race of the T100 Triathlon World Tour in London on 9 August 2025. This professional race was held in the London Docklands district and formed part of the official world championship series for the long-distance triathlon.

Justus had a strong start to the race: he established a spot in the leading group for the swim early on and had a confident changeover to the cycle. However, he soon fell behind on the technically challenging course – an existing hip problem impaired his performance and stopped him from maintaining his usual pace.

In the final run, Justus found his rhythm after a rapid changeover and managed a solid end to the race. He achieved 14th place in a strong international field.

The full race information can be found in the T100 Series’s live data dashboard.

Max Dehning in Offenburg – focus on technical fine tuning

On Saturday (9 August 2025), Max Dehning was competing in the discus and javelin competition hosted at the ETSV Stadion in Offenburg. The event was organised by LG Offenburg and brought together national athletes in both throwing disciplines.

Max’s competition did not go entirely to plan from a technique perspective. In javelin, he is currently working specifically on improving his control of the javelin head – which is key to precision and range. He has the technical fundamentals, but is still not managing to implement them at the crucial moment. From his perspective, it is just a matter of time until the processes fully kick in.

Despite what was not an ideal performance, Max had one positive conclusion to draw: the insights gained in Offenburg will be incorporated directly into preparations for his next competition in Bern (Switzerland) on Saturday.

Successful test matches in Potsdam for Füchse Berlin

Füchse Berlin have completed their final test matches as part of the traditional preparation tournament in Potsdam. Three days, three teams and one clear objective: find their playing rhythm, integrate their new additions and try out tactical variants. Coach Jaron Siewert’s team were enthusiastic and versatile in both matches.

On Friday (8 August 2025), Füchse defeated Japanese team Toyota Auto Body Brave Kings 48:33. The team impressed with fast pace and creative attacking, especially in the first half. Mathias Gidsel and Tim Freihöfer were the top scorers with seven goals each. New additions Tobias Grøndahl and Aitor Ariño also fitted well into play.

Saturday then brought a derby against their cooperation partner 1. VfL Potsdam. After an evenly matched start, Berlin took charge of the second half to put things at 41:32. They trialled targeted rotations in the outer positions, whilst goalkeeping by Milosavljev and Ludwig provided stability. Coach Siewert appeared satisfied with the team’s development and emphasised that the actual results were of lesser importance – what really mattered was match practice and teamwork.

The tournament in Potsdam was a vital milestone in their season preparations, given their upcoming tasks, which include the Supercup against THW Kiel.

HG Saarlouis confident heading into new season

Last Saturday (9 August), HG Saarlouis scored a narrow 32:31 away win against promoted second-division team HC Oppenweiler-Backnang. This intense test match was the fifth in their current preparatory period, and was described by head coach Lützelberger as ‘another good step forward’.

The match began with Saarland taking an early lead, but they initially had some unusual gaps in their defence. Oppenweiler took advantage of this and temporarily took a 14:11 lead. Saarlouis responded with patience and a strong 6:0 run, led by Yves Kunkel and Elyas Noh, which put the away team back in front.

At half-time, the score was 19:18 to HG Saarlouis. The second half was marked by intense defending on both sides. The narrow lead remained intact for a long time, until Oppenweiler then claimed it back. However, Saarlouis remained solid and set course for victory thanks to Eberlein and Noh.

The away team then blocked the final opportunity to equalise. This success has given the team a further boost of confidence for their upcoming tasks. Friday brings their final test match in Konstanz, before the new season begins on 23 August with a home game against Longericher SC.

We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
