German gymnastics team impress at home world cup in Cottbus
From 18 to 21 September, the Lausitz-Arena Cottbus played host to the fourth FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Cup 2025 – and the German gymnastics team took advantage of this home event to put in a strong performance and gain key momentum en route to the world championships.
Matthias Schuldt caused a double stir: he was the first German in the qualifiers to break the 60-point mark and set a new German record with 60.53 points. He improved further in the final to win the gold medal with 60.61 points. Fabian Vogel and Caio Lauxtermann rounded off the strong individual results with ninth and tenth place.
In the men’s synchronised competition, Vogel and Lauxtermann secured the silver with 52.05 points – only narrowly beaten by Kazakh gymnasts Mussabayev/Tumakov. The gymnastics team also featured in the mixed synchronised final: Aileen Rösler and Fabian Vogel came eighth whilst Christine and Matthias Schuldt finished in 13th.
The women also put in a strong performance in the individual competition. Aileen Rösler (14th place), Gabriela Stöhr (16th place) and Christine Schuldt (20th place) managed clean routines and gained vital international ranking points.
With three top-ten individual performances, including a gold medal and German record for Matthias Schuldt, a synchronised silver medal and solid mixed performances, this home world cup served as a successful yardstick for the athletes of the German gymnastics federation before the world championships.
SV Elversberg at top of table with strong away performance
On Saturday (20 September 2025), SV Elversberg sent a strong signal in the 2. Bundesliga. A convincing 4:1 away win against Eintracht Braunschweig put Vincent Wagner’s team temporarily at the top of the table – confirming their solid early form.
Younes Ebnoutalib put SVE ahead early on, and although Braunschweig equalised, Jan Gyamerah re-established the lead before half-time. After the change of ends, Elversberg upped the pressure, took advantage of the home team’s red card, and then consistently exploited their higher numbers. Ebnoutalib scored once again and Freddy Schmahl placed the cherry on the cake.
Although the season is only just beginning, my team are managing to play relatively stable football
manager Vincent Wagner said after the match.
With four wins in six games as well as six official matches unbeaten, Elversberg are demonstrating continuity, control of play and quality in sealing the deal. A detailed match report is available at HYLO® News.
Their next opponent is Holstein Kiel: On Saturday (27 September, 1 p.m.), SV Elversberg welcome the top-division returnees and current ninth-placed team to the URSAPHARM Arena.
Double whammy for Saarbrücken – confident in the cup, strong in the league
1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis impressed in both the cup and the Bundesliga within the course of four days. On Friday evening (19 September 2025), the team defeated Borussia Dortmund 3:0 in the last sixteen of the German table tennis cup – without dropping a set.
The team’s top lineup of Fan Zhendong, Patrick Franziska and Darko Jorgic appeared in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle, leaving BVB out of luck. Franziska in particular had to battle against Cedric Nuytinck, turning things round after falling behind and winning match point after fending off five set points. ‘That is why we play table tennis, it really buoys you up’, he said after the match. Fan Zhendong and Jorgic also confidently secured points – the quarter-final place was never in doubt. A detailed match report is available at HYLO® News.
Monday (22 September, 7 p.m.) brought their next TTBL success: Saarbrücken defeated TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell 3:1 in a top Bundesliga game.
Despite the lack of Fan Zhendong, Patrick Franziska stepped up and won both singles matches – first against Fanbo Meng, then against defence specialist Ruwen Filus. Darko Jorgic turned his match against Jonathan Groth around after going 0:1 sets down and falling 6:9 behind in the second set, fought his way back and won the match by taking three sets in the row. Eduard Ionescu narrowly lost the opening match against Filus, but put in a committed performance in a nerve-racking five-set duel that pushed things to 9:9 in the deciding set. Saarbrücken impressed with control of play, tactical adjustments and mental stability. This away win puts Saarbrücken at the top of the TTBL table.
Their next opponent is Werder Bremen – on Sunday (5 October, 5 p.m.) at the Klaus-Dieter-Fischer-Halle in Bremen.
Füchse Berlin secure double home win – solid in Champions League and Bundesliga
This week, Füchse Berlin had two successful home games and gained vital points on both a national and an international level
On Thursday evening (18 September 2025), the German champions defeated Aalborg Handbold 31:28 in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. In front of 6,135 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Berlin team impressed with pace of play, strong defence and a phenomenal Dejan Milosavljev in goal (10 saves). Mathias Gidsel shone with eight goals and five assists, whilst Tim Freihöfer contributed seven goals – six from the penalty line. Despite some absences, Nicolej Krickau’s team put in a united performance and remain unbeaten after two days of play.
The next success came just three days later (21 September, 3 p.m.): Füchse defeated MT Melsungen 30:24 (14:13) in the DAIKIN Handball-Bundesliga on Sunday to end their mini-streak of two league losses. In front of 8,020 fans, Milosavljev was once again a key player with 14 saves – including two penalties. Impressive attacking contributions were provided by Mathias Gidsel (9 goals), Tobias Grøndahl (6/5) and new addition Aitor Ariño, who offered four goals and two steals.
We are very happy with our presence and energy
was Krickau’s summary after the match.
Next events: Things continue on Thursday (25 September, 6:45 p.m.) with a Champions League away game against KS Iskra Kielce. Three days later (28 September, 6 p.m.), Berlin are hosting ThSV Eisenach for a Bundesliga match.
HG Saarlouis remain flawless – away win in Melsungen
On Sunday (21 September 2025), the handball players of HG Saarlouis continued their 3. Liga Süd-West winning streak. Jörg Lützelberger’s team won their away game against MT Melsungen’s Bundesliga reserve 27:18 (15:8) to stay unbeaten at the top of the table after five days of play.
Saarland put in a focused start in front of 106 spectators in Stadtsporthalle Melsungen, including the usual vocal support from HGS fans. Michel Fiedler was on point from the very first throw, the defence appreciably stabilised, and Saarlouis consistently exploited attacking situations where they had greater numbers. By seven minutes in, the score was already 5:1, and HGS were 15:8 ahead at half-time.
Saarlouis remained dominant after the change of ends. Yves Kunkel scored safely from the spot, Lars Weißgerber and Philipp Kockler upped the scoreline to 24:12 – and the match was soon over. Although efficiency tailed off somewhat in the final period, Melsungen were only able to have a tiny impact on the overall result. Kockler secured the final 27:18 score with three goals in a row.
That was a focused performance overall
Lützelberger said in summary, whilst also offering some clear areas for development: ‘We want to be even more efficient and precise in the final period.’
Next day of play: On Saturday (27 September, 7:30 p.m.), HG Saarlouis are playing host to TSG Haßloch for a Saar-Palatinate derby in the Stadtgartenhalle.
proWIN Volleys begin new season with home win
On Saturday evening (20 September 2025), proWIN Volleys TV Holz celebrated a successful start to the new 2. Volleyball-Frauen-Bundesliga Süd season. The team prevailed 3:2 (23:25, 25:21, 25:16, 27:29, 15:12) against VC Offenburg in an intense five-setter in the Multifunktionshalle at Sport Campus Saar.
A match with many twists and turns unfolded in front of a home crowd. The Volleys had to manage without core player Kim-Marie Hartmann, and middle blocker Nadin Murad was injured. After narrowly losing the first set, the team quickly re-established themselves and dominated the second and third sets with powerful serves and stable receiving. Holz appeared to be the sure-fire winners for much of the fourth set, but Offenburg battled back to force a decider.
The Volleys then demonstrated huge mental strength to win 15:12. Holz’s MVP was outside attacker Alice Turmovich, who impressed with bold play and a strong presence. This initial win sends a vital message for the coming weeks – the team have shown that they are able to prevail even under pressure and are flexible in their tactics.
Next day of play: On 4 October (6 p.m.), the proWIN Volleys have an away game against TSV Unterhaching in the Geothermie Arena.
BCB begin Bundesliga season with narrow defeat
On Sunday (21 September 2025), 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim began their new Badminton-Bundesliga season with an away game against title contenders 1. BC Wipperfeld. The VOSS Arena played host to what became a top-class duel, which the home team ultimately narrowly won 4:3.
BCB put in a strong performance: Marvin Seidel and Marvin Datko won the first men’s doubles match in five sets, whilst Kaloyana Nalbantova impressed with a clear 3:0 victory in the women’s singles. The mixed match with Seidel and Isabel Lohau had all the makings of a comeback as they battled their way up from 0:2 sets down, but they were ultimately beaten 10:12 in the fourth set.
The first men’s doubles match saw Julien Maio and William Villeuger narrowly lose in five sets, with the same fate befalling women’s doubles pair Nalbantova/Thygesen, who were defeated 11:13 in the deciding set after plenty of changes of lead. Giovanni Toti had a strong start but lost the second men’s singles match 1:3.
Despite this narrow defeat, BCB demonstrated in many of their matches that they could keep pace with the top Wipperfeld team. This season opener showcased both high-quality play and versatile tactics – a solid basis for their upcoming matches.
Next day of play: On Sunday (5 October, 2 p.m.), BCB face SC Union Lüdinghausen in an away match.
BIKE AID on track for podium at China halfway point
Since 15 September, BIKE AID have been competing in the Tour of Poyang Lake in China – a UCI 2.2 stage race with eleven day stages and an international field. After Oliver Mattheis’s initial win in the HC climb, the team have put in a solid performance for the first half of the race and have a promising position in the overall rankings.
At the halfway point, Mattheis is second overall – just 54 seconds behind the leader Petr Rikunov (CHENGDU DYC Cycling Team). The upcoming stages promise plenty of excitement: the individual time trial and the final climb in stage ten will be key sections that particularly suit Mattheis. The BIKE AID captain has set himself ambitious goals for these days and will be seeking to continue fighting for an overall podium spot.
Vinzent Dorn and Lennard Sternsdorff have also put in consistent performances and remain part of the wider favourites. For BIKE AID, the Tour of Poyang Lake is still a vital and strategically important stage race – both in sporting terms and as regards their international presence.
The final outcome will become clear in the next few days. Stage ten with the climb is on 25 September and the final will be on 26 September.
We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
