German gymnastics team at World Championships – DTB young buck impresses in Jakarta
The young DTB team made their mark at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta (19-25 October 2025) with three final spots and some vital development. Timo Eder, Karina Schönmaier and Silja Stöhr represented Germany in the finals, gaining valuable international experience in the process.
The German gymnastics team kicked things off for the finals with Timo Eder in the men’s all-around final on Wednesday (22 October). The 20-year-old Ludwigsburg native secured 19th place at his first ever World Championships. After a successful start on the vault and solid routines on the parallel bars and horizontal bar, two falls on the pommel horse and rings prevented him from climbing any higher.
The last two apparatus were a shame, but I am grateful for the experienced gained at my first World Championships
Eder said after the competition.
Thursday (23 October) brought the all-around final for Karina Schönmaier and Silja Stöhr. Schönmaier came 19th with 50.566 points, whilst Stöhr’s 50.265 points put her in 21st place. Both put in strong performances but had to contend with small errors. Schönmaier once again performed a double twisting Yurchenko on the vault but had some minor issues with the landing. Stöhr impressed on the beam and uneven bars, putting in a clean performance overall. ‘Karina has had some niggles recently, Silja performed very well. She just needs a little more experience’, was coach Anatol Ashurkov’s summary.
Friday (24 October) brought the vault final for Karina Schönmaier – and became an emotional highlight. She demonstrated courage and class with a new Cheng vault, but was docked two points from her first attempt due to a rule violation. Her appeal remained unsuccessful, landing her in fifth place despite a strong performance overall.
I am extremely disappointed. I performed my new vault, that was a huge step for me
Schönmaier said after the final.
The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta served as a vital yardstick for the German gymnastics team – with three final spots, solid performances and clear development prospects.
Confident home game – strong team performance by FCS Tischtennis
On Sunday (26 October 2025), 1. FC Saarbrücken-Tischtennis confidently clinched their TTBL match. The team celebrated a safe 3:0 win against Post SV Mühlhausen (who were weakened by absences) in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle to remain at the top end of the league.
Eduard Ionescu opened proceedings with a clear defeat of debutant Ivo Quett, Darko Jorgic secured a 3:2 victory over Ovidiu Ionescu in a top-quality duel, and Patrick Franziska rounded things off against the Mühlhausen coach Erik Schreyer.
Of course, our goal is and will still be to win matches with our top team
Franziska explained beforehand – and the team delivered. Even without superstar Fan Zhendong, who is in China until December, Saarbrücken were solid and versatile.

The Saarland team’s next appearance is an away game in Grünwettersbach on 11 November.
Lots of ball possession but no points for SV Elversberg
On Saturday (25 October 2025), SV Elversberg were forced to start their multi-match week with a defeat. Vincent Wagner’s team lost 2:0 to DSC Arminia Bielefeld – despite clear control of the match and nearly 70% ball possession. The hosts consistently exploited two early transition moments, and although Elversberg dominated, they largely failed to clearly break through.
After possession of the ball was lost during a forward push, Joel Grodowski scored in the 17th minute to put things at 1:0. An own goal by Florian Le Joncour after a cross from Boakye increased this to 2:0 (28th minute).
We started well, but we were playing catch-up after the counter-attack and own goal
was Wagner’s down-to-earth summary. Elversberg continued pushing in the second half, but a goal remained out of reach – their best opportunity, which went to Younes Ebnoutalib, rebounded off the post.

This defeat sees SVE drop down to third place in the table. Things continue on Tuesday evening (28 October) with a DFB Cup match against Hertha BSC – an opportunity to turn control of the match into points once again.
Champions League win follows Bundesliga downer – a week of contrasts for Füchse
Two matches, two different faces: Füchse Berlin impressed on an international stage this week but had to contend with a downer in national terms.
On Thursday (23 October 2025), the German champions defeated Veszprém KC 32:31 in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. Despite the early losses of Fabian Wiede (knee injury) and Max Darj (red card), Nicolej Krickau’s team showed huge nerve. Goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev shone with 16 saves, whilst Hákun West av Teigum was the top scorer with seven goals.
We fought hard throughout the match with eight or nine players, and ultimately more than earned the two points
Milosavljev said after the match.
Three days later on Sunday (26 October) came the team’s first defeat in an official match since September. Füchse lost 38:39 to HSV Hamburg in front of 8,501 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. Lasse Andersson scored twelve goals, Lasse Ludwig also chalked up twelve saves – but the team’s defence remained too open for long periods.
We had too little control of our pace of play. The last few minutes were nothing like the identity we want to display
was Krickau’s clear summary.
This brings the Berlin team’s (cross-competition) winning streak to an end at eleven wins in a row. After the international break, things continue for Füchse Berlin on Thursday (6 November) with a DHB Cup match against ThSV Eisenach, before the Bundesliga continues on Sunday (9 November) with an away game against SC DHfK Leipzig.
HG Saarlouis relinquish lead – defeat in Rodgau
On Saturday evening (25 October 2025), HG Saarlouis suffered their second 3. Liga Süd-West defeat of the season. In the RODAUSTROM Sportarena, Jörg Lützelberger’s team lost 32:34 (15:16) to HSG Rodgau Nieder-Roden – after having temporarily eked out a three-goal lead. HGS were 27:24 ahead by the 48th minute, but then lost control and ultimately suffered a deserved loss.
The home team consistently exploited Saarlouis’s errors and finishing issues, turned the match around in just a few minutes and slickly held their lead through to the final whistle.
We are hugely disappointed. We stayed on track for much of the game and were very close to scoring these big points
Lützelberger said after the match. Weak power play and a high number of time penalties (20 minutes) made all the difference. Two red cards and a clear penalty fail rounded off a difficult evening.
Saarlouis suffered a loss with the same result against Nieder-Roden last season – who have once again proved to be an awkward opponent. HGS remain within striking distance of the top group and are continuing to work on clinching even tight matches.
HG Saarlouis’s next home game is just around the corner: on Friday evening (31 October, 7:30 p.m.), the team are playing host to the SGSH Dragons at the Stadtgartenhalle. This is a vital opportunity to regain stability and points after their defeat in Rodgau.
Royals suffer EuroCup defeat in Riga – confident Bundesliga win in Herne
Two matches, two very different stories: on Thursday (23 October 2025), Saarlouis Royals were defeated 61:75 by TTT Riga in a EuroCup Women away game. After a long and energy-sapping journey, the team started in balanced form but lost their foothold in the second quarter. Riga took advantage of gaps in their defence and scored primarily from the flanks. Although the Royals increased their presence after the break, they remained lagging behind. Emma Eichmeyer (18 points) and Martha Burse (15) were the top scorers.
The team responded just three days later: Saarlouis defeated Herner TC 76:63 in the Bundesliga on Sunday (26 October), remaining the only league team not to have lost a match. Mathis Rozlapa’s team established the foundations for this in the very first quarter with a 27:10 run. Although Herne established a better foothold in the game at points, the Royals kept up a high pace and solid structure.
We were wide awake right from the first second
Rozlapa said. Captain Magaly Meynadier praised the team’s cohesive performance: ‘Everyone played their part.’
The Royals are now leading the Bundesliga table with five wins in five matches. Things continue in the EuroCup on Thursday (30 October) with an away game in Istanbul against Emlak Konut SK. This is followed on Sunday (2 November, 5 p.m.) with a top match against ALBA Berlin at the Stadtgartenhalle in Saarlouis.
proWIN Volleys show nerve – Lohhof clinch match
On Saturday evening (25 October 2025), proWIN Volleys TV Holz welcomed SV Lohhof to the Multifunktionssporthalle Saarbrücken for a home game. On the sixth day of play in the 2. Volleyball-Bundesliga Süd, the Saarland team were defeated 3:1 (17:25, 24:26, 25:23, 20:25) after four intense sets.
Coach Hans-Jörg Kersten had Kim-Marie Hartmann and Nadin Murad back on the squad, but had to manage without twins Alice and Nicole Turmovich. Things got off to a bumpy start: they were lacking rhythm and focus in the first set, and Lohhof pulled ahead early on. The Volleys were more stable in the second set and created numerous set points, but were unable to convert any. Their third set was the strongest: Holz clinched a well-deserved win with bold play and consistent exploitation of opportunities. In the fourth set, they lacked the freshness and switching options to pose a serious threat to Lohhof.
We fought well, the team’s mood is good – we can build on that
Kersten emphasised after the match. Lohhof were an experienced, physically strong opponent that consistently exploited the spaces made available to them.
Things continue for proWIN Volleys on Saturday (1 November, 6 p.m.) with an away game against TV SUSPA Altdorf at 3-fach Halle an der Mittelschule.
KSV Köllerbach lose against Meister – sights set on the future
On Sunday (26 October 2025), KSV Köllerbach had to accept a clear away defeat in the 1. Ringer-Bundesliga. The Saarland team lost 21:10 to reigning champions ASV Schorndorf. The duel at Hohberg-Sporthalle in Plüderhausen got off to a promising start: Arsen Harutyunyan established an early lead with a technically superior win. However, Schorndorf had a greater physical presence and more consistent tactics in the second round. Although Ahmed Bataev scored with a focused 7:1 win and Vasyl Mykhailov made his mark with a win by fall, overall Köllerbach remained passive too often and had to acknowledge their opponent’s superiority.
The club report noted that ‘we were ultimately lacking bite after the change of ends’. Schorndorf consistently took advantage of the depth of their squad, whilst Köllerbach were forced to improvise in numerous weight classes. This second away defeat in a row drops KSV down to sixth place in the table.
Sunday (2 November, 4 p.m.) brings their next home duel: Köllerbach are welcoming KSC Hösbach to the Kyllberghalle – an important opportunity to get back on track for success.
We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
