What’s new from the HYLO® Sport family

This was a varied week for our #hyloathletes – with exciting matches and competitions and a very special international highlight. We take a look back at the last seven days’ events and competitions featuring our athletes, teams and clubs.

The best HYLO® Open ever

The HYLO® Open 2025 from 28 October to 2 November at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken demonstrated once again why the tournament is a firm fixture on the international badminton scene. Spectators enjoyed six days of top-quality matches and a special atmosphere.

Mia Blichfeldt (Denmark) defended her title in the women’s singles whilst Jonatan Christie (Indonesia) won the men’s singles. The doubles titles were clinched by Lambert/Pognante (France), Wang/Chiu (Taiwan) and Christiansen/Bøje (Denmark, mixed).

On the German side, Marvin Seidel and Thuc Nguyen made it to the quarter-finals, whilst Bjarne Geiss and Jones Jansen celebrated their return to the international stage. National coach Hannes Käsbauer described this as a vital step.

As well as sport, the event also impressed with the appeal it created for the region. International fans ensured a very special atmosphere and the political arena praised the tournament’s importance. The live streams on live.hylo.sport followed proceedings throughout, and the ‘3 to ELEVEN?!’ series on our HYLO®Sport YouTube channel provided lots of exciting insights and background information even after the tournament was over.

Tournament director Frank Liedke gave a positive summary:

The standard increased hugely this year. The lineup included the absolute global elite – a delight for any badminton fan.

It has now been confirmed: the world’s elite will be back in Saarbrücken from 27 October to 1 November 2026. A detailed report can be found at HYLO® News.

Elversberg and Hannover draw 2:2 in top match

SV Elversberg provided an exciting duel against Hannover 96 in front of a sold-out crowd at the URSAPHARM Arena on Kaiserlinde on Friday evening (31 October 2025). 9,307 spectators enjoyed a top-class second-division duel that ended in 2:2, with 90 minutes of intensity, pace and drama.

Elversberg responded strongly to their losses in Bielefeld and Berlin. Lukas Petkov fired a header from a Gyamerah cross to put the score at 1:0, then an equaliser came shortly before half-time in the form of an unlucky own goal. After the change of ends, a controversial penalty converted by Conté put them ahead at 2:1, but Hannover player Ghita quickly scored with a header to put things at 2:2. SVE pushed for the win in the final stages, but were foiled several times by keeper Noll.

In football terms, from both teams, this was the best second-division game I have ever played

goal-scorer Petkov enthused after the final whistle. Wagner also praised his eleven‘s performance: ‘We have an incredibly fantastic team that play great football with a brutal mindset.’ At the same time, he called for improvements to set pieces.

With this draw, Elversberg have confirmed that they have long been a firm fixture in the division. Well after the match was over, the fans continued celebrating their team, who not only kept pace with Hannover but also dominated for significant portions.

Their next top match is on Saturday: Wagner’s eleven face second-placed team FC Schalke 04 at 1 p.m. in the Veltins Arena.

Saarlouis Royals: defeat in Istanbul, triumph against Alba

The past week brought two very different matches for Saarlouis Royals. On Thursday (30 October 2025), the team lost 69:89 to Emlak Konut SK in Istanbul in the EuroCup Women. The match against the Turkish favourites was decided early on, but the Royals still took advantage of the encounter to gain additional international experience. Although they have not yet chalked up a win in the group stages, the club view the competition as a vital step forward in their development on an international level.

Just three days later, the Toyota 1. Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga brought a national highlight. Saarlouis faced Alba Berlin in front of nearly 1,000 spectators in the Stadtgartenhalle and turned around a match that many believed was already out of reach. After falling 19 points behind, the team fought their way back with strong defence and huge commitment, ultimately winning 68:63. This leaves the Royals unbeaten at the top of the table.

Once again, our team showed heart and character. Making a comeback against a strong team like Alba Berlin is something very special

the sports management noted after the final whistle.

Wednesday brings the next international highlight: the Royals are playing host to top Serbian club KKZ Crvena Zvezda in the Stadtgartenhalle for a EuroCup Women match.

Depleted squad: no points for proWIN Volleys in Altdorf

On Saturday evening (1 November 2025), proWIN Volleys TV Holz faced TV SUSPA Altdorf in a 2. Volleyball-Bundesliga Süd away game. The 3-fach Halle an der Mittelschule played host to what became an intense duel, which the home team ultimately won 3:0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:23).

The Volleys were suffering from a depleted squad and held up well at points. The match remained open for a long time in the third set in particular, until Altdorf’s reserves proved greater in the crucial moments. Throughout the match, the home team managed to exert more pressure in key situations and score the vital points.

Despite their defeat, the team from Holz showed commitment and fighting spirit, but were unable to win out at tight moments.

With a depleted team, we were just unable to win out against strong opponents from Altdorf at the crucial moments

was the team’s general feeling after the match.

The proWIN Volleys will now be seeking to take advantage of a period with no matches and make targeted preparations for their upcoming challenges. Sunday 16 November brings an away game against TG Bad Soden at the Otfried-Preußler-Schule.

HG Saarlouis celebrate vital home win against SGSH Dragons

On Friday evening (31 October 2025), HG Saarlouis welcomed the SGSH Dragons to the Stadtgartenhalle for a 3. Handball-Liga Süd-West duel. In front of 1,110 spectators, the table leaders chalked up a 32:26 (16:15) win that was not solidified until the second half.

The Saarland team had to manage without some key players: Meti Durmishi was playing with the Kosovo national team and captain Tom Paetow was injured. In addition, Wladi Kurotschkin received an early red card after an unfortunate foul. This meant that HGS initially struggled and the away team from Sauerland took advantage of their freedom, keeping the match open for long stretches. Saarlouis first took the lead around 13 minutes in.

Things remained tight until half-time, but the home team gained better control after the change of ends. Their play gained greater structure, headed up by Sven Eberlein, Philipp Kockler and Joshua Reitz. Goalkeeper Michel Fiedler, who was substituted on during the match, made several strong saves and provided a stable defensive backbone. Young talents Marko Jelicic, Silas Geis and Gil Kunkel were also granted plenty of playing time and impressed with their efforts.

The path to victory was secured at 22:17 in the 14th minute, with the Dragons unable to decisively fight back. Ultimately, this was a well-earned win that consolidated the team’s top spot.

I am proud of the boys

coach Jörg Lützelberger said after the match, specifically praising the young talent who stepped up.

HG Saarlouis‘s next match is on Saturday evening (15 November), an away game against Bergische Panther that kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

TG Saar celebrate vital away win against TuS Vinnhorst

On Saturday evening (1 November 2025), the gymnasts of TG Saar took a vital step towards their goal of staying in the 1. Bundesliga. In this catch-up fixture for the second day of competition in the DTL, the Saarland team chalked up a decisive 28:34 away win against TuS Vinnhorst. This win gives the team some vital breathing space from the bottom of the table.

TG Saar were under significant pressure, as they urgently needed points in order to stay in the league, and started strong. The away team won the floor 4:8 to lay the foundations for their success. However, the pommel horse brought a setback in the form of a clear 10:2 defeat. The Saarland team managed to claw the lead back before the break, winning the rings 4:7.

In the second half, TG Saar were stable and focused. The away team clearly dominated the vault to secure 1:4. The two teams battled their way to 7:7 on the parallel bars, then Saarland secured a 2:6 win on the horizontal bar to round off their performance and clinch a vital away victory.

The best athlete of the day was Vinnhorst’s Thierno Diallo, as the top scorer with 12 points. The most successful points scorers for TG Saar were Felix Remuta and Gabriel Eichhorn, who both gained a brilliant six points.

The league season continues on Saturday with TG Saar’s next vital duel: the team are playing host to SC Cottbus in Dillinger Kreissporthalle at 6 p.m. and will be relying on the support of their home fans to continue this upward trend.

KSV Köllerbach lose wrestling thriller against Hösbach

On Sunday afternoon (2 November 2025), the spectators in the Kyllberghalle enjoyed a real Ringer-Bundesliga wrestling thriller. KSV Köllerbach were 16:0 ahead of KSC Hösbach at the break, but ultimately suffered an incredibly narrow 16:17 defeat.

The opening moments were clearly dominated by Saarland: Arsen Harutyunyan began in the 61kg freestyle with a spectacular 16:0 win after just 88 seconds. Hayk Khloyan (130 kg, GR) and Kerem Kamal (67 kg, GR) also scored confident points. Ahmed Bataev followed suit and Valentin Seimetz rose the roof with a technically superior 18:0. At half time, the score was at 16:0 and everything was pointing towards a home victory.

However, Hösbach came back fighting with full force. World champion Malkhas Amoyan and Michael Widmayer closed the gap with two clear 16:0 wins. Andriy Shyyka then narrowly lost 3:4, and Nils Klein also suffered a clear defeat against Japanese Olympic competitor Kotaro Kiyooka. The score before the final duel was 16:13.

Vasile Taran initially led the decider 6:1, but Gevorg Sahakyan countered in the final stages and unexpectedly pinned the Köllerbach athlete. This turned the entire competition upside down – leaving Köllerbach to suffer an incredibly narrow 16:17 defeat.

Despite this bitter loss, the team put in a cohesive and fighting performance, especially in the first half. Köllerbach drop back to seventh place in the table, to be overtaken by Hösbach.

The second half of the season begins on Saturday. The change of style means that the deck is being reshuffled. SV Germania Weingarten will be coming to the Kyllberghalle – a duel where the ‘wolves’ will be seeking to restart a winning streak with the support of their fans.

Gabriel Clemens qualifies for the Players Championship Finals

29 and 30 October 2025 marked the last two tournaments of the PDC Players Championship at the Robin Park Leisure Centre in Wigan (GB). Gabriel Clemens used this double event of tournaments 33 and 34 to finally qualify for the Players Championship Finals, which will take place in Minehead from 21 to 23 November 2025.

The ‘German giant’ kicked off tournament 33 with a clear 6:1 win against Brendan Dolan. He eked out a crucial early lead with consistent finishes in 14, 15 and 14 darts. In the second round, Clemens was unable to consistently exploit opportunities against Ryan Joyce and was defeated 3:6. Nevertheless, his prize money of £1000 put him a vital step up in the rankings and secured him a spot in the finals race.

Clemens also had a successful start to Players Championship 34 the following day, beating Australian player Damon Heta 6:4. In the second round he faced Irishman Keane Barry, who narrowly won their tight match. This brought Clemens’s tournament to an end in the second round once again. Despite this early departure, this was a key performance as it ultimately secured him enough points to qualify for the finals.

Clemens will now be preparing for the big season finale in Minehead. This brings together the elite of the Pro Tour, and the Saarland player will be seeking to ensure top form on stage and chalk up more wins.

We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
