On Saturday (6 December 2025), SV Elversberg faced SC Paderborn in the Home Deluxe Arena for the 15th day of play in the 2. Bundesliga. Saarland prevailed 2:1 in an intense duel to celebrate another away win.
Younes Ebnoutalib put the away team in the lead during the first half (32nd minute). Sven Michel equalised for Paderborn after the change of ends (52nd minute), then Frederik Schmahl scored the decider in the 76th minute. The home team also had to contend with reduced numbers after Calvin Brackelmann was shown a red card.
This win allowed SVE to overtake the East Westphalian team in the table and climb up to second place. Manager Vincent Wagner sounded happy: ‘We played with great focus and discipline, that was the key to our success today.’

First CL defeat and Bundesliga response for Füchse
Füchse Berlin have had a week of two intense away games: their first Champions League defeat against Kolstad Handball (24:28), followed by a vital Bundesliga win against Hannover Burgdorf (32:28).
On Thursday (4 December 2025), Füchse Berlin headed off to play Kolstad Handball at the Trondheim Spektrum for the tenth day of play in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. A hugely depleted squad and the early loss of Lasse Andersson meant that the Berlin team were lacking penetrating power. Despite eleven saves by goalkeeper Lasse Ludwig and seven goals by Matthes Langhoff, Füchse were defeated 24:28 (12:15) and missed out on clinching an early spot in the quarter-final.
Coach Nicolej Krickau summed up the defeat: ‘Kolstad brought more to the court than we did today. I am less unhappy about the result than I am about our lack of readiness right from the outset.’
Just three days later, Sunday (7 December 2025) brought a top Bundesliga match against TSV HannoverBurgdorf in the ZAG Arena. Füchse responded in fighting form to secure a 32:28 win (15:14). Matthes Langhoff particularly shone with ten goals, three assists and strong defensive work, whilst Mathias Gidsel contributed nine goals. The Berlin team managed a 6:1 run at a crucial point after half-time, laying the foundations for the win.
That was gutsy, mentally strong, and a very solid defensive performance. We held together for over 60 minutes and showed that we are resilient, even with many players missing.
Nicolej Krickau
This win allowed Füchse to consolidate their position at the top of the Bundesliga and demonstrate that they can remain competitive despite injury woes.
Outlook
Füchse Berlin are now turning their attentions to upcoming challenges. On Thursday (11 December, 11 p.m.), the Berlin team have an away game against SG Flensburg Handewitt in the FlensArena.
Just a few days later on Sunday (14 December, 4:30 p.m.), the capital team are returning to the Max-Schmeling-Halle to face HSG Wetzlar in front of a home crowd.
Cup win and league setback for Saarlouis Royals
Saarlouis Royals had two very different games this week.
On Wednesday (3 December 2025), the defending champions secured a confident 90:72 win against Wings Leverkusen in the Toyota DBBL Cup last sixteen.
The Royals controlled proceedings right from the outset, carving out a double-figure lead early on and retaining it through to the end. Head coach Matiss Rozlapa used this as an opportunity for a broader rotation, and the team were cohesive and focused. Particularly pleasingly, it marked the debut of new addition Jordyn Jenkins, who slotted straight into the team structure with a strong presence and key contributions. This win puts the Royals in the quarter-final, where they will enjoy a home advantage against Herner TC in early January.
Captain Magaly Meynadier emphasised: ‘Cup matches always have their own rules. We will pull out all the stops to try and make the top four.’
Just a few days later, on Saturday (6 December 2025), the team had a DBBL league match against Eigner Angels Nördlingen. After some intense and very busy weeks and a strained staffing situation, the Royals suffered a 81:61 defeat. Roosa Lehtoranta was weakened for the match due to illness, and the team lacked the power they needed to consistently break the home team’s rhythm. Despite this setback, their performance this season remains strong, and the team are looking to the future.
On Sunday (14 December, 5 p.m.) the Royals are welcoming SYNTAINICS MBC Halle to the Stadtgartenhalle. Fans can also look forward to a very special highlight at 2 p.m.: an international Special Olympics Unified match between the Saar Panthers and the Luxembourg national team. This promises to be a day of basketball with a sporting and emotional impact.
HG Saarlouis turn match around to stay at top of table
On Saturday (6 December 2025), HG Saarlouis faced TuS Opladen for a 3. Liga West fixture. In the Sporthalle Opladen, the Saarland team battled their way to a 27:20 away win to clinch both points.
The game was initially evenly matched, with changes of lead and a 6:6 scoreline after a quarter of an hour. Things did not go smoothly for the table leaders, especially in the first half: HGS failed to score on several occasions, either hitting the goalposts or being thwarted by TuS’s strong goalkeeper Colin Beckert. Opladen were 12:9 ahead by half-time.
After the change of ends, Jörg Lützelberger’s team gained a better foothold. Focused defence, stolen balls and counterattacks all put Saarland back in the match. Finn Zecher became a crucial stalwart in goal – a top performance marked by total of 17 saves, including a penalty. At 19:19 (46th minute), the match was still anyone’s to win, but then HGS managed a fevered final 8:0 spurt. Eberlein, Kunkel, Weißgerber and co. consistently extended this lead, then Elyas Noh rounded things off to 24:19 seven minutes before the end.
This was a fantastic team performance with an outstanding Finn Zecher in goal, and it brought two vital, valuable points for us against a team that have demonstrated their attacking quality.
Jörg Lützelberger
This win means that HG Saarlouis stay at the top of the table and are now turning their attentions to the derby against Homburg on Saturday (13 December, 6:30 p.m.) at the Sportzentrum Homburg-Erbach, as well as to facing Opladen again on 20 December.
proWIN Volleys celebrate home win against Sonthofen
On Saturday (6 December 2025), the proWIN Volleys TV Holz welcomed AllgäuStrom Volleys Sonthofen to the Multifunktionssporthalle on Sportcampus Saarbrücken for a 2. Volleyball Bundesliga Süd match. The Saarland team won 3:1 (21:25, 25:11, 25:21, 25:16) in front of a home crowd and gained vital points in the battle for the league.
The match began with a setback: Sonthofen consistently exploited opportunities and took the first set 25:21. However, the home team responded in impressive style. The Volleys dominated the second set (25:11) with powerful serves, solid receiving and clear attacks to pave the way for victory. Saarland also took control of the subsequent sets, putting Sonthofen under pressure with varied attacks to win the third and fourth sets 25:21 and 25:16.
This win sees the proWIN Volleys confirm their home strength and demonstrate that they can regain a foothold in a match even after setbacks.
On Saturday (13 December 2025, 7 p.m.), the Volleys have an away game against TSV TB München at the Gymnasium München Nord. The team will be seeking to build on their momentum from the home win and also chalk up away points.
KSV Köllerbach secure early ticket to playoffs
On Saturday evening (6 December 2025), KSV Köllerbach welcomed SV Wacker Burghausen to Kyllberghalle for a Bundesliga duel. Around 300 spectators enjoyed an exciting evening that showcased the Saarland team’s ambitions in impressive form.
After a difficult start with Florian Zimmer (61 kg GR) losing to Fabian Schmitt, the home team launched a proper assault. Heavyweight Oleksandr Khotsianivskyi equalised in just 66 seconds with a technically superior performance, then Valentin Seimetz raised the roof in the 66 kg freestyle with a win by fall.
Although Ahmed Bataev suffered a defeat in the 98 kg GR, this was the last point that Burghausen managed to win. After this, Köllerbach dominated: Hayk Melikyan (15:0), Vasyl Mykhailov (12:3), Andrey Shyyka (7:5), Vasile Taran (technical superiority after 69 seconds), MarcAntonio Von Tugginer (fall) and Igor Makuch (2:2 win on points) secured a final score of 25:5.
