Ally Pally: Gabriel Clemens into World Championship third round with definitive win
On Monday (22 December 2025), Gabriel Clemens competed in the afternoon session of the 2026 World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace with a second-round match against Wessel Nijman. Once again, the ‘German Giant’ put in a strong performance on the Ally Pally stage and won 3:0 to secure a ticket to the third round – the third German player in the tournament to do so.
Clemens had a focused start to the match, even if Nijman initially set the tone with a 116 finish. The Saarland player then increasingly took control. Whilst Nijman had some major issues with doubles, Clemens‘s scoring remained stable and clinched him the first set.
Although the Dutch player improved in the second set and ticked off two strong legs, Clemens held firm with a 14-darter and took advantage of his first set dart on tops in the deciding leg. The story was much the same in the third set: Nijman only managed to find his rhythm at points, whilst Clemens took advantage of opportunities. After a 13-dart break and missing various match darts, the Saarland player ultimately sealed the deal on his fourth attempt.
With an average of nearly 90 points, three 180s and a doubles rate of 35 percent, Clemens confirmed his solid form and will be returning to the World Championship stage after Christmas for the third round.
His next match is likely to be on Sunday afternoon (28 December), when he will face Luke Humphries in round three.
SV Elversberg earn point in Münster
On Sunday (21 December 2025), SV Elversberg headed to the LVMPreußenstadion for the final match in the first half of the 2. Bundesliga season. The game against Preußen Münster ended 1:1 – a result that felt like a missed win for SVE after the home team scored a late equaliser, but still had an impact on the table.
Münster began by upping the pressure and managed various shots on goal early on, including a penalty that was saved confidently by Nicolas Kristof. Elversberg subsequently gained a better foothold in the match and took advantage of their first clear opportunity: after a foul in the penalty area, Younes Ebnoutalib safely converted the resulting penalty to put the score at 1:0 – his twelfth goal of the season. The match then remained open and SVE had numerous good chances on goal, but failed to score for the second time. In stoppage time, Münster pushed through once again and managed to equalise in the 90th+4 minute, when Paul Jaeckel passed on a long throw-in to be headed in by Etienne Amenyido.
Manager Vincent Wagner was open about his thoughts afterwards: ‘Yes, definitely’ was his reply to whether the late goal had dampened the mood. However, he also emphasised his team’s overall development and their strong first half of the season overall.
The point gained means that SV Elversberg are heading into the winter break in second position and remain at the top end of the division.

1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis celebrate perfect double home weekend
Two matches, two wins – and an electric Saarlandhalle on both days: 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis enjoyed an intense but successful home weekend on Friday (19 December 2025) and Sunday (21 December 2025). First up they managed a clear 3:0 in the Champions League last-sixteen second-leg match against Dojlidy Bialystok, then two days later came a spectacular 3:2 victory in a Bundesliga classic against Borussia Düsseldorf.
To kick things off, FCS secured a resounding defeat of Dojlidy Bialystok on Friday. Fan Zhendong began with 3:0, then Darko Jorgic and Patrick Franziska completed the team’s progression to the quarter-finals. This was a very special moment for Fan: ‘Today I played in the Champions League for the first time… Now I am just happy that we as a team are through to the next round’.
Sunday then brought an intense TTBL duel against Düsseldorf in front of more than 3,300 spectators. Fan won both of his singles matches, but the ultimate victory was not secured until the final doubles, which Franziska and Meissner won 3:1. Team manager Nicolas Barrois summed up the mood perfectly: ‘Brutally intense… I haven’t seen as good or exciting a Bundesliga match as this in a long time’.

Things continue on 4 January 2026 when FCS will be competing for their first title of the year at the Cup final four in Neu-Ulm.
1. BC Bischmisheim end home double-header with strong finish
1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim faced an intense double-header weekend at the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle to round off their year. On Saturday (20 December 2025), BCB played host to reigning German champions SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil for a top match, followed on Sunday (21 December 2025) by a duel with TV Refrath.
The first fixture against Dortelweil began in promising form: both the first men’s doubles and the women’s doubles went to the Saarland team, allowing them to develop an early lead. However, they were unable to decisively break through in the subsequent matches. The team had hoped for more success, especially in the men’s singles and mixed doubles, but were thwarted. The final score was 2:5, leaving them without any points to take home despite some good performances.
Just a day later, BCB offered a fitting response. The team left no room for doubt against TV Refrath and won 7:0. The team were solid, consistently exploited opportunities and are now heading into the winter break with a clear win under their belts.
Despite the defeat in a top match, which has dropped BCB down to third place in the table, they remain within striking distance of the top. Overall, the weekend left a positive impression, as the clear win on Sunday provided a fitting end to their year of badminton.
Things continue on Sunday (18 January 2026) at 3 p.m., back in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. BCB will be facing 1. BC Wipperfeld, who are equal to them on points – a direct duel at the top end of the table.
Saarlouis Royals lose in Keltern after strong first half
On Sunday (21 December 2025), Saarlouis Royals faced championship favourites Rutronik Stars Keltern in the Speiterlinghalle. The match ended in a 64:79 defeat, even though the Royals played convincingly for much of the first half and headed into half-time 37:32 ahead.
The team began in focused form with bold, clear play. The first two quarters before the break both went to Saarlouis, who consistently implemented their game plan and repeatedly posed problems for Keltern. The match initially remained open after the change of ends, but the start of the final quarter was ultimately crucial: six minutes where nothing seemed to work in either attacking or defending terms. Keltern consistently took advantage of this period of weakness and turned the match around.
Ultimately, 30 points by Martha Burse and a committed team performance were not enough to keep the duel alive through to the final minutes. Emma Eichmeyer’s foul count and the absence of key players made the task even more difficult. At the same time, the strong first half demonstrated the team’s potential – even under difficult conditions.
To round off the year, on Sunday (28 December 2025, 5 p.m.) the Royals are welcoming Herner TC to the Stadtgartenhalle. The teams will then meet again just a few days later on 3 January 2026 at the Sporthalle West in Dillingen for the Cup quarter-final. An exciting new year period for the Royals!
Füchse Berlin survive cup firecracker and secure away win in Minden
This week brought two challenging tasks for Füchse Berlin: first a Cup duel against THW Kiel on Thursday (18 December 2025) in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, followed by a Bundesliga away match against GWD Minden on Sunday (21 December 2025) in the Kreissporthalle Lübbecke. Both matches were demanding for the Berlin team – and both ended in vital wins.
The DHB Cup match against Kiel became an intense match that was hugely exciting right from the outset. Füchse found their rhythm quickly, established clear attacks, and impressed with a solid defence. They held their nerve during the final stages to clinch the duel. This victory also secured Berlin a ticket to the Lidl final four. The tournament will take place on 18 and 19 April 2026 in Cologne’s Lanxess Arena – and Füchse will be featuring for the first time since 2024.
The next challenge came three days later in Lübbecke. Berlin initially struggled against GWD Minden, but improved considerably as the match went on. The team increasingly took control as time passed, making more consistent use of their opportunities and ultimately securing a well-deserved win. Defensive work in the second half in particular laid the foundations for this away victory.
With two wins in a short space of time, the Berlin team are heading into their last matches of the year with the wind in their sails.
Today (23 December 2025, 8 p.m.) brings the next Bundesliga match against HSV Hamburg. On Saturday (27 December 2025, 7 p.m.) the team have their next home game against FRISCH AUF! Göppingen in the Max-Schmeling-Halle.
HG Saarlouis remain flawless at home and head into break at top of table
HG Saarlouis have won their last home game of the year. On Saturday (20 December 2025), the team defeated TuS Opladen 29:25 in a sold-out Stadtgartenhalle and fulfilled captain Tom Paetow’s wish to ‘sit by the Christmas tree as the table leaders’.
Opladen had a better start to the match and consistently exploited HGS‘s mistakes. It took a few minutes for Saarlouis to begin taking control: Yves Kunkel turned things around with three goals, then Elyas Noh increased things to 10:4. However, the away team remained persistent and reduced the gap to 15:12 by half-time.
Things were tight once again after the change of ends. Opladen equalised and took the lead twice, before HGS regained stability thanks to some vital saves by Michel Fiedler and goals by Kunkel and Philipp Kockler. The match opened up again at 22:22 (47th minute), when a rapid triple from Paetow, Eberlein and Weißgerber brought the momentum back. Saarlouis held their nerve in the final stages to clinch their seventh home win.
Coach Jörg Lützelberger praised the team’s development and the support from the fans, saying that ‘coaching this team is genuinely fun’.
A seventh home win in seven games means that HG Saarlouis are heading into the Christmas break at the top of the table – and looking forward to continuing their streak in January.
proWIN Volleys celebrate clear 3:0 derby win against Freisen
On Friday evening (19 December 2025), the Multifunktionssporthalle at Sportcampus Saarbrücken played host to the Saarland derby in the 2. Volleyball-Bundesliga Süd: proWIN Volleys TV Holz welcomed VC Freisen – a duel that traditionally provides particular levels of excitement. In front of more than 400 spectators, Holz managed a confident 3:0 (30:28, 25:20, 25:19) win after 90 minutes of play to confirm their strength at home.
The first set became an intense exchange of blows. Both teams served aggressively and consistently sought to gain points. Holz eked out more set points, Freisen defended with just as much determination – and the home team were also forced to neutralise set points from their opponents. Ultimately, the Volleys held their nerve and won what was a hard-fought set 30:28.
The second set was more controlled. Being a set up made Holz noticeably more secure: their receiving stabilised and the team exploited opportunities more consistently. After an evenly matched opening stage, the Volleys increasingly took control to win 25:20.
Holz seamlessly continued this strong performance in the third set. Variable attacks, a solid block defence and strong focus meant that the team left the outcome of the derby in no doubt. 25:19 ultimately clinched the 3:0 home win.
The most valuable player accolade went to middle blocker Julia Pomerleau, who was virtually unstoppable at the net and consistently scored vital points. This derby win means that the proWIN Volleys have not only gained crucial table points, but are also heading into their upcoming tasks with the wind in their sails.
Things continue in the new year (11 January 2026, 2 p.m.) when the proWIN Volleys face VC Wiesbaden II for a home game.
KSV Köllerbach lose in Hösbach – attentions turn to quarter-final
On Saturday evening (20 December 2025), KSV Köllerbach faced KSC Hösbach for a RingerBundesliga away match on the 14th day of competition. The Saarland team suffered a clear 4:26 defeat in the Aubachhalle.
Hösbach took control early on and won the first five bouts. Although Köllerbach had a few strong moments, they were not able to prevail in any of the weight classes before the break. At half-time, KSV were 0:15 behind – with the home team gaining vital points in the Greco-Roman events in particular.
In the second half, there was light at the end of the tunnel for Saarland: Vasyl Mykhailov secured a confident win on points in his freestyle bout, then shortly after Vasile Taran gained a narrow points win. Both showed strong nerve in their duels to score a few points for KSV. However, Hösbach prevailed once again in the remaining fights.
The Köllerbach squad was weakened by injuries and included three junior wrestlers – a factor that made a perceptible difference against the compact Lower Franconian lineup. Despite this defeat, the season remains positive overall: sixth place means that KSV have definitively secured a spot in the playoffs. Team leader Geid summed things up after the fight: ‘Our last two fights have not exactly been ideal. But you can only work with what you have to hand.’
The quarter-finals will see KSV Köllerbach face SV Germania Weingarten, at TrimmTreff in Püttlingen on 3 January 2026 followed by an away fixture on 10 January 2026. The team will be hoping to be compete with their top lineup once again and significantly improve their performance.
