Füchse quartet shine in European championship final
On Sunday 1 February in Herning, the European Handball Championship came to an end with a final where four Füchse players took on a vital role. Denmark won the final against Germany 34:27 – and for Mathias Gidsel and Lasse Andersson, this victory represents the completion of a personal grand slam after the 2024 Olympic gold and 2025 world championship title.
Gidsel was formative throughout the entire tournament, was named the most valuable player and set a new European championship record with 68 goals. He also made his mark early on in the final, before receiving brief treatment after a foul. Nevertheless, Denmark remained solid and clearly won the match in the second half.
Two former Füchse juniors also featured on the German side, in the form of Nils Lichtlein and Matthes Langhoff. Both served up some vital minutes in the final, stabilising the defence and providing an attacking boost. Despite their courageous performance, Germany were unable to clinch the title, but the development achieved by the team and the two home-grown Berlin players was clearly evident.
All four of the final Füchse are expected back at the Max‑Schmeling‑Halle on 15 February, when Füchse Berlin will be playing their first Bundesliga home game of the year against TVB Stuttgart.
Clear win for HGS, but Kornecki out for the long-term
On Saturday evening, 31 January 2026, HG Saarlouis achieved a clear 38:25 victory against the Bundesliga reserve team from Friesenheim‑Hochdorf at the Stadtgartenhalle – but also received some news that hit everyone hard. Whilst the team chalked up their ninth home win in nine games, back-court player Hubert Kornecki suffered a severe shoulder injury shortly before the end of the match. The initial diagnosis was confirmed on Monday: his season is over.
Saarlouis quickly gained a foothold in the match. Meti Durmishi scored his 600th goal of the season early on, with Sven Eberlein getting his 100th. Finn Zecher was initially in goal and impressed with nine saves. HGS continued to pull away from the tenth minute and headed into half-time 19:9 up.
Saarlouis remained clearly dominant after the change of ends. Tom Paetow provided wise leadership, the defence were solid, and the home team scored from all over the court. At 33:18, the outcome had long since been decided. Michel Fiedler stepped into goal for the final stages and contributed four saves, including two penalties.
However, the mood changed abruptly in the 54th minute. Hubert Kornecki was left lying on the ground after an attack and had to be treated for several minutes. The initial diagnosis on Saturday was a dislocated shoulder. This was sadly confirmed on Monday: a complex shoulder injury involving numerous ligaments and requiring an operation. Kornecki’s season is over. Manager Jörg Lützelberger spoke of the need to ‘pull together’.
Despite the clear scoreline, celebrations remained muted. Saturday brings the next home game for HGS – back at the Stadtgartenhalle, this time against the Bundesliga reserve team from Melsungen.
We would also like to send Hubert Kornecki our best wishes for a full recovery.
Elversberg win top game on Betzenberg
An intense evening in Kaiserslautern ended in a vital win for SV Elversberg: 3:1 in this top match on Saturday (31 January) put SVE back in second place in the second division. This was an evening where the support of the away fans was palpable and the team were able to celebrate the moment with them.
Elversberg got off to a bold start, pushed forward early and made their mark via Conté and Petkov. Kaiserslautern responded with a period of pressure, but Nicolas Kristof kept his team in the game with a strong save. Things became more action-packed shortly before half-time: a loss for FCK, VAR involvement, a penalty and a red card. Petkov confidently converted it, but an own goal put the score at 1:1 by half-time.
SVE then increasingly gained control after the change of ends. As manager Vincent Wagner later put it: ‘We were very mature after the break and we knew that we would score our goals.’

In the 55th minute, new winter addition David Mokwa scored after clean passing to put things at 2:1. Kaiserslautern struggled to find solutions, whilst Elversberg calmly carried the match over the line and secured a third goal in the final stages thanks to Luca Schnellbacher.

This Betzenberg success is historic and also sends a strong message in the battle for promotion. Their next task awaits in the URSAPHARM Arena on Kaiserlinde on Saturday: Hertha BSC will be their opponent.
FCS TT beat champions 3:0 in Ochsenhausen
On Saturday (31 January 2026), 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis headed out to face reigning champions TTF Ochsenhausen – and made their mark in the Dr.-Hans‑Liebherr‑Halle. Despite lacking numerous core players, FCS TT still chalked up a confident 3:0 win.
Darko Jorgic opened proceedings with a strong comeback: after going two sets down against Shunsuke Togami, he turned the match around to continue his undefeated streak for this Bundesliga season. Eduard Ionescu then upped the total with a clear 3:0 against Tiago Abiodun. The cherry on the cake came from Yuto Muramatsu, who also defeated Andreas Levenko in straight sets.
Jorgic summarised the importance of this win after the match: ‘I am happy that we won. It is always hard to win here.’

A sixth win in the last seven matches means that Saarbrücken are securely at the top end of the table. Things continue on Tuesday (10 February) with a home game against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, followed by the Champions League quarter-final second-leg match against GV Hennebont in the Trierer Arena.
It was also announced on Monday that Darko Jorgic would be leaving FCS TT at the end of the season – after seven years that have inspired respect and gratitude from both him and the team.
Royals hold second place – away win against ALBA Berlin
An intense afternoon in the capital ended in a vital win for the Saarlouis Royals: on Saturday (31 January 2026), head coach Matiss Rozlapa’s team defeated ALBA Berlin 70:58 to consolidate their strong second place at the top end of the table.
After an evenly matched early phase, the Royals found their rhythm at the beginning of the second quarter. Their solid defence meant that by half-time, they had established a 39:28 lead – by a margin that could have been even greater if they had exploited opportunities more effectively. Saarlouis remained focused after the change of ends, controlling the pace and keeping the Berlin team consistently at bay.
The team all agreed that this duel was not representative of how their upcoming top-four match would be. ‘ALBA Berlin will definitely be rather different there’, was the view from the Royals camp. At the same time, the team know which details they want to keep working on.
Things continue for the Royals on Sunday (8 February), when the title favourites from Keltern are coming to the Stadtgartenhalle Saarlouis at 4 p.m. – a real highlight in the end-of-season race.
proWIN Volleys start strong – tight battle in Lohhof
A 2. Bundesliga Frauen Süd double-header presented two very different challenges for the proWIN Volleys. To begin with on Saturday (31 January 2026), the team secured a confident 3:0 win at MTV‑Halle MoTiV in Stuttgart against the Allianz MTV Stuttgart Bundesliga reserves. A day later in Unterschleißheim brought an intense duel against SV Lohhof, which the home team clinched after four sets.
The Volleys enjoyed a focused start to the weekend in Stuttgart. Solid receiving, powerful serving and clear attacking solutions enabled them to put the young talent of Stuttgart under pressure early on. Holz won the sets 25:22, 25:14 and 25:19 – a performance that gave the team a boost of confidence for their trip onwards to Bavaria.
The match in Lohhof on Sunday (1 February 2026) became a real battle. Holz got off to a bold start, put the table leaders under pressure with varied attacking, and took the first set 25:19. Lohhof then gained a better foothold in the match, upped the serving pressure and turned things around to 26:24, 25:17 and 25:23. Despite the defeat, Holz put in a committed performance for much of the match and continually posed a challenge to the table leaders.
Things continue for the proWIN Volleys on Saturday (7 February): at 7 p.m., the team will be welcoming TV Altdorf to the Multifunktionssporthalle on the SPORTCAMPUS in Saarbrücken.
HYLO® Next Gen begins with record numbers and two strong winners
The start of the HYLO® PDC Europe Next Gen at Halle 39 in Hildesheim immediately illustrated why this series has now become one of the most important platforms for upcoming and amateur darts players from the German-speaking world: two tournaments in two days, packed lineups, and a clear focus on the potential of the new generation of darts talent.
Daniel Klose won on Saturday (31 January 2026), securing his first title of the year. In doing so, last season’s number one confirmed his position as one of the most solid players on the tour. Sunday (1 February 2026) saw a new name being added to the list of winners: 18-year-old Florian Preis clinched the second tournament to celebrate his first victory at Next Gen level – a strong message for the new generation.
HYLO® SPORT will be supporting the series once again in 2026 with its own live stream of the knockout stages, which will be available on the hylo.sport event page and will provide fans and players alike with access to the tournaments.
Things continue in mid-February with the next two tournaments in Kalkar.
Gabriel Clemens misses out on Masters ticket in final match
For Gabriel Clemens, Wednesday (28 January 2026) was all about qualifying for the Winmau World Masters at Arena MK in Milton Keynes. 120 players were battling it out for the final spots in the main field – an intense day where the ‘German Giant’ pushed on through to the decider.
Clemens was solid for long periods and was once again the best German player in the qualifiers. He was only thwarted in his final match by Wessel Nijman, who secured a 3:1 win that served as payback for his defeat in the world championships. The match began just as it did in Ally Pally: Nijman initially let opportunities pass him by whilst Clemens exploited them. However, the Saarland player missed six set darts in the second leg and the Dutchman turned the momentum around with a 164 finish. Clemens later responded strongly with a 128 checkout and equalised to 1:1 sets but was ultimately defeated by his opponent’s high scoring.
This would have been Clemens‘s fourth appearance at the Masters. Despite the narrow defeat, he put in an impressive performance and remains on track for the ProTour.
Johannes Vetter wins HYLO® Javelin Winter – strong comeback in Offenburg
1 February in 2026 in Offenburg brought the men’s event of the HYLO® Javelin Winter competition – and Johannes Vetter took advantage of this for an impressive comeback. The 2017 world javelin champion (and world number one) secured a clear win with 76.62 metres, demonstrating solid early form after a long period out with injury.
Vetter dominated the field in the Rüdiger-Hurrle-Halle, confirming – according to Sportschau – that he is ‘back at the top’. Particularly notably, The 30-year-old consistently threw beyond the 75-metre mark, leaving no-one in any doubt about his current form.
Max Dehning, who was also competing for LG Offenburg, impressed with a 72.34-metre throw to finish in second place. This allowed the hosts to celebrate a double success and underscore their strong position in the German javelin world.
HYLO® Javelin Winter is designed as an indoor meet for current and upcoming athletes and provides an early acid test for the season in compact form. This men’s competition marked the end of an intense day featuring numerous age classes and disciplines.
Bischmisheim athletes strong at German championships in Cloppenburg
The 74th German championship in Cloppenburg provided a dense mix of victories for favourites, surprises, and emotional moments across a four-day tournament. For the 1. BC Bischmisheim players, this event served as a vital yardstick – and became a weekend with numerous final appearances.
In the women’s doubles, the last-minute pair of Isabel Lohau and Yvonne Li provided one of the most exciting tales of the tournament. Lohau had changed her plans the evening before and paired up with Li after her original partner was forced to withdraw due to injury. ‘Yvonne and I have never played doubles together, so it might be a bit of a lucky dip’, Lohau said beforehand. But the duo worked immediately on the court: they aligned their tactics, made smart use of their experience, and ultimately secured the title. This was a particularly emotional win for Lohau, just a few months after returning to active competition.
In the mixed doubles, Marvin Seidel made waves with Thuc Nguyen. The pair quickly found their rhythm, controlled rallies and won the final in two sets. This title was the result of clear tactics and very harmonious coordination throughout the entire tournament.
Seidel also featured in the men’s doubles – this time, alongside Michael Fuchs. The pair reached the final thanks to a consistent performance throughout. They were ultimately defeated by Jonathan Dresp and Simon Krax, but the Bischmisheim duo’s final appearance confirmed their quality. For Fuchs, who was returning to the German championship stage after an extended break, this result sent a valuable message.
BCB can be proud of their team members’ strong results in the doubles and mixed doubles.
Team75 Motorsport impress in Estoril – podium for Marco Giltrap
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe stopped off in Estoril, Portugal on 30 and 31 January 2026. This weekend brought a strong performance by Team75 Motorsport, marked by two catch-up pursuits and a podium finish for Marco Giltrap.
The qualifying was a difficult one for the 22-year-old New Zealand driver. Numerous yellow flags prevented him from completing unimpeded laps, meaning that he had to start the first race from seventh place and the second from fifth. However, on the track, Giltrap demonstrated the qualities that set him apart this weekend: controlled aggression, patience and precise manoeuvring at crucial moments.
He made up two positions early on in the first race, closed the gap on the front of the pack, and ultimately finished in fourth. The second race took a similar course – this time, up to third place. ‘After a difficult start to the weekend, this was a really great end’, Giltrap said after the podium.

Team boss Jennifer Leising also sounded happy: ‘Marco made strong moves in both races. We are happy.’ At the halfway point of the series, Giltrap is now third in the rankings and level-pegging on points with second place.
Things continue in Valencia on 22 February with races five and six of the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe.
We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
