Saarbrücken secure final four ticket amid variable TTBL week

1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis had three (national and international) challenges to overcome last week – two in the TTBL and a European highlight in the Champions League. It all began on Tuesday (10 February 2026) with a Tischtennis-Bundesliga home game against TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. Saarbrücken won 3:1 to consolidate their third place. Fan Zhendong won both of his singles matches and Patrick Franziska also prevailed, with Cedric Meissner conceding the only point. ‘Naturally, this win is good for us and helps us in reaching the playoffs’, Meissner said after the match.

Friday (13 February 2026) brought the Champions League semi-final second-leg match against GV Hennebont TT. FCS moved to SWT Arena Trier due to the Carnival celebrations – where they secured a ticket to the final four in front of 3,400 spectators. After their clear 3:0 win in the first leg, two singles wins were all that was needed and the final score stood at 3:2, once again granting them a spot in the European finals tournament in front of a home crowd in the Saarlandhalle. Fan Zhendong, Truls Möregardh and Darko Jorgic scored the crucial points.

Things continued in the TTBL just two days later: on Sunday (15 February 2026), Saarbrücken faced the table leaders Borussia Düsseldorf at Castello Düsseldorf. FCS were 2:0 up at the break, but Düsseldorf then turned the match around to win 3:2. The final doubles pair of Qiu/Källberg won the decider, but whilst Saarbrücken were unable to clinch the top spot in the table, they remain well on track for the playoffs.

Things continue for 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis on Sunday (15 March 2026), when the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle will play host to a TTBL duel against ASV Grünwettersbach.

SVE turn around away game in Dresden to secure three points

On Saturday evening (14 February 2026), SV Elversberg faced Dynamo Dresden for a second-division duel in the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion and won the intense floodlit match 2:1 in front of 30,000 spectators. SVE fell behind early on but then increasingly gained a foothold in the match and created their first clear opportunities before half-time. Elversberg upped the pressure after the change of ends and this paid off in the 58th minute: Mickelson attacked up the left-hand side to score the equaliser.

SVE played boldly in the final stages and turned the match around. Petkov was the quickest to react in the 78th minute and scored from close range to put things at 2:1. Dresden then threw everything at attacking, but Elversberg kept a closed defence. Kristof managed two strong saves in stoppage time and Petkov cleared another away. As Vincent Wagner later said about their success: ‘We were the lucky winners in this fantastic stadium. This win was not undeserved, but it was fortunate.’

Vincent Wagner

This away win keeps SVE in the top part of the table and confirms their stability in a tight division.

Things continue on Saturday with a home game against Eintracht Braunschweig at the URSAPHARM Arena on Kaiserlinde.

Double win for Füchse – Gidsel makes history

After the European Handball Championship, Füchse Berlin celebrated two big wins in the Handball Bundesliga last week. On Wednesday (11 February 2026), Nicolej Krickau’s team beat HSG Wetzlar 41:27. The Berlin team pulled ahead early on, consistently pushed forwards, and had some strong back-court stalwarts in Tobias Grøndahl (11 goals), Mathias Gidsel and Lasse Andersson. Krickau sounded happy: ‘Our focus with the ball worked well. We are very happy with our performance today.’

Sunday (15 February 2026) brought their first home win of the year: Füchse won 37:32 against TVB Stuttgart in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. After a varied first half, the Berlin team improved considerably. Tim Freihöfer and Lasse Andersson scored eight times each, Gidsel contributed seven goals, and Dejan Milosavljev impressed once again with vital saves.

Some very special news was also announced between the two matches: Mathias Gidsel was named World Player of the Year for the third time in the row – a historic success previously only achieved by Nikola Karabatić and Mikkel Hansen. ‘Being named World Player of the Year is something very special. I am of course very proud’, Gidsel said.

Things continue for Füchse on Thursday (19 February 2026) in the Champions League against Dinamo Bukarest, before Sunday (22 February 2026) brings a Bundesliga away game against Bergischer HC.

Saarlouis Royals stay in second after Hanover duel

On Friday evening (13 February 2026), the Saarlouis Royals defeated TK Hannover Luchse 72:63 in the Stadtgartenhalle to defend their second-place spot in the DBBL. Nearly 700 spectators enjoyed an intense match right from the outset, with both teams investing plenty of energy. The Royals controlled the first three quarters with solid defending and clear attacking, allowing them to gradually pull away.

Hannover upped the pressure in the final section and tried to turn the match around. However, Saarlouis remained solid, made the right decisions at crucial moments, and held their lead to the final whistle. Brynn Shoup-Hill was the key player of the match and took responsibility for both attacking and defence – supported by her family, who had travelled from the USA specifically to watch.

The win was overshadowed by Egle Zabotkaite suffering another injury. The Royals are hoping that their key player will have a quick recovery. We would also like to send Egle our best wishes.

This win keeps Saarlouis in second place, heading to Berlin for the DBBL Cup TOP4 finals with the wind in their sails. The team will be facing ALBA BERLIN in the semi-final on Saturday (28 February 2026) in the Sömmeringhalle.

proWIN Volleys provide volleyball thriller but miss out on home win in tie-break

On Saturday evening (14 February 2026), the proWIN Volleys TV Holz welcomed TG Bad Soden to SPORTCAMPUS Saarbrücken for a 2. Bundesliga Frauen Süd match. After 135 intense minutes, the hosts were narrowly defeated 2:3 but secured a vital point for the table.

The match got off to a difficult start for the Volleys: Bad Soden were more stable in the first two sets, winning them 25:16 and 25:20. Holz initially struggled to find solutions to the third-placed team’s consistent play. However, the dynamic shifted in the third set. The Volleys significantly improved, showed strong nerve and closed the gap to 27:25. Their new-found confidence allowed them to win the fourth set 25:21 and force a tie-break.

The deciding set then remained open right through to the final rally. The Volleys created opportunities for a home win but were unable to convert their set points. Bad Soden were more consistent in the final stages and won 18:16. In a bitter pill for Holz, setter Leah Lawson was injured during the final rallies, but was still named the team’s MVP.

Despite the defeat, the proWIN Volleys confirmed that they can keep pace with the top teams in the division and held eighth place thanks to their point.

Things continue on Sunday (22 February 2026) with an away game against SSC Karlsruhe-Beiertheim in the Friedrich-List-Halle.

HYLO® PDC Europe NEXT GEN: two tournaments, one winner

On 14 and 15 February 2026, the HYLO® PDC Europe NEXT GEN stopped off in Kalkar – a series created for darts talent that provides ambitious players with a professional stage. On both days, fans were able to watch the tournaments’ knockout stages live on hylo.sport

Tournament number three on Saturday was shaped by one name in particular: Paul Krohne, who won the final against strong competition to secure his first NEXTGEN title of the year. Just 24 hours later, he confirmed his top form once again to win tournament number four, making for a perfect weekend and placing him at the top of the overall rankings.

The Münster native reinforced his status as the best player in the tournament series right now. His recent triumph continues a winning streak that is unmatched in the history of Next Gen: he is now a record winner with four titles, alongside Niko Springer and Daniel Klose. His final win extended his streak to 31 match wins in a row – and Krohne has remained undefeated in 48 matches at Wunderland Kalkar.

The series will continue on 7 and 8 March with two tournaments in Hildesheim.

Strong start to the season for Gabriel Clemens – 9-darter and quarter-final

Gabriel Clemens began his pro tour season on 9 and 10 February 2026 at Halle 39 in Hildesheim with the first two Players Championship tournaments of the year – and form that clearly built on his strong world championship performances.

The Saarland player made it straight through to the semi-final of the Players Championship 1. After a 6:4 opening win against Damon Heta, which he turned around from 3:4 with a three-figure average, he then also beat Charlie Manby (6:2), Jurjen van der Velde (6:3) and Wesley Plaisier (6:2). He was only finally defeated by Nathan Aspinall with a score of 1:6.

A day later, Clemens reinforced his strong early form at the Players Championship 2. He started by winning his German duel against Ricardo Pietreczko (6:4) and then defeated Darryl Pilgrim (6:3). The third round brought a highlight: the ‘German giant’ threw a 9-darter in his 6:3 against Madars Razma and chalked up a 108 average. His run was brought to an end in the last sixteen by Danny Noppert (2:6).

On 11 February, the same venue then played host to the Tour Card qualifiers for the first two European tour events. However, after a strong pro tour, this time Clemens unfortunately suffered an early defeat. He was not able to exploit good opportunities in his 3:6 Jeffrey de Graaf, as his opponent repeatedly cleared high finishes.

Despite this brief appearance at the qualifiers, Clemens‘s start to the season was clearly positive: two strong runs, a 9-darter, and a clear upturn in form compared with the previous year.

Variable weekend at GT Winter Series in Valencia for Carrie Schreiner

From 12 to 15 February 2026, the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Cheste played host to the third weekend of the GT Winter Series. For Carrie Schreiner and the Attempto Racing team, this was an intense weekend marked by strong winds and changeable conditions. The race scheduled for Saturday had to be cancelled due to a storm warning and moved entirely to the Sunday – making for three races in one day.

The first race of the weekend, where her teammate Levi competed, was a start-to-finish victory. Carrie then started from second on the grid in her own race but was forced to retire after an early collision. She began her third race from tenth on the grid. She moved up to ninth after a successful overtaking manoeuvre in the second lap, before the field was repeatedly closed by numerous periods with a safety car. Levi took the wheel once again after a pit stop and brought the car through an aggressive final stage to the finish line in ninth place, which was increased to eighth after another team was awarded a penalty.

Carrie later emphasised that the team had shown strong pace throughout the entire weekend. However, the early incident in her race had made the rest of the event much more difficult, especially as she had hoped for more for the crew. At the same time, she emphasised how well the car had been running, and added that she was now looking forward to the start of the main season.

After the Valencia weekend, attentions are now turning to their upcoming races: the launch of the NLS season with a four-hour race on the Nürburgring on 21 March.

HG Saarlouis respond to loss of Kornecki by signing two Swedish back-court players

Following the severe injury suffered by Hubert Kornecki, HG Saarlouis did a little dealing shortly before the transfer deadline and signed two back-court players from Swedish first-division team Eskilstuna Guif. 23-year-old left-hander Zeb Bjerneld will be reinforcing the right back whilst Olle Österhall (also 23) will be used flexibly across the back court.

Sports director Markus Baur emphasised that both players are well developed with top-level experience and will be able to start helping the team immediately. Coach Jörg Lützelberger views them as two ambitious new arrivals who fit the club’s profile well and will support the team’s ongoing development.

We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
