What’s new from the HYLO® Sport family
For our #hyloathletes, this has been a week of exciting competitions and strong performances in many arenas. We take a look back at the last seven days’ events and competitions featuring our athletes, teams and clubs.
1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis clinch the triple at Final4 in Frankfurt
During the finals weekend in Frankfurt (30-31 May 2026), 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis managed to secure the crowning glory of a season that has set a new benchmark for the club. At the first ever Liebherr TTBL Final4 tournament in the Süwag Energie ARENA, FCS Tischtennis added the German Championships to their Cup and Champions League wins to complete the historic triple.
Saarbrücken confidently defeated Werder Bremen 3:1 in the semi-final to claim their spot in the final. This brought record champion Borussia Düsseldorf on Sunday. FCS put in another cohesive team performance: Fan Zhendong won both his singles matches, Patrick Franziska clinched a key match against Anton Källberg, and the eventual 3:1 scoreline secured Saarland their third title of the season.
This also marked Fan Zhendong and Darko Jorgic’s final appearances in the FCS jersey – a farewell that could scarcely be more fitting.

HYLO® Team Saar – successful Bundesliga opener in Kraichgau
On Saturday (30 May 2026), HYLO® Team Saar launched their new 1. Triathlon‑Bundesliga season in Kraichgau with a convincing performance. The team held out against strong competition in the relay format at Hardtsee to secure the day win and send a strong message in the battle for the title.
The team lined up at the start in confident form with new additions Justus Töpper and Luca Fahrenson, young talent Sebastian Ziekmann and final starter Jaspar Ortfeld. Töpper kicked off the four-person format with a quick initial performance and handed over in first place. Ziekmann confidently defended this position then Fahrenson extended their lead even further. Things became tight once again in the final lap when Berlin’s Ben Bettin closed the gap in the water. However, Ortfeld made his mark during the run and held their lead through to the finish line.
HYLO® Team Saar were followed by Berlin and Münster, whilst the reigning champions from the south missed out on a podium finish this time around. For the team from Saarland, this win marked a vital step after their narrow result last year – and a successful start to a season where the championship title is once again the major goal.
The HYLO® Team Viernheim/Saar joint women’s team achieved a strong fourth place in the women’s league.

German gymnastics team – successful European Championship week in Varna
From 27 to 31 May 2026, the German gymnastics team were competing in the Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships in Varna, where they secured home numerous titles, final spots and strong individual moments. The focus of this was Darja Varfolomeev, who won the all-around title on Saturday and added two other gold medals with the ball and ribbon on the final day.
Varfolomeev qualified for all of the key finals, consolidating her position as one of the best gymnasts of all. She scored 120.150 points in the all-around event to defeat Bulgarian local hero Stiliana Nikolova and win her first European Championship title in this discipline. The apparatus finals then brought a gold with the ball (29.550 points) and another with the ribbon (30.000 points). She came fourth with the hoops. Her teammate Viktoria Steinfeld reached the ribbon final, where she secured eighth place.
Lada Pusch also had a strong European Championship week in Varna. However, she suffered an unfortunate moment during the all-around event: there were issues with the music during her routine, temporarily disrupting her flow and costing her valuable points. Despite the interruption, she managed to hold her focus and finish her programme, gaining vital international experience in the process.
The German group also put in a solid performance: the quintet came fifth in the all-around competition and chalked up another fifth place with the clubs and hoops. The team also came sixth in the five-ball apparatus finals. Germany similarly finished in fifth in the combined team rankings for the individual and group events.
This means that the athletes of the German gymnastics team finished the week with three titles, numerous final spots, and vital experience as they head towards their home World Championships in August.
German gymnastics team – two silvers for Timo Eder in Koper
The German gymnastics team put in some strong finals performances at the FIG World Challenge Cup in Koper (28-31 May 2026). The particular focal point of this was Timo Eder, who won medals on both days of the competition. He secured second place on the floor on Saturday with 13.266 points then confirmed his form on the Sunday with another silver on the horizontal bar, where he achieved 13.433 points and was only surpassed by Italian competitor Riccardo Villa.
Nils Dunkel also reached two finals. He was unable to repeat his strong qualification performance on the pommel horse and dropped down the rankings after a fall. His rings routine was cleaner, securing him fourth place with 13.133 points.
For the athletes of the German gymnastics team, this competition in Slovenia marked a valuable waypoint as they head towards their upcoming international tasks – with a clear haul of two silver medals and other final spots.
HG Saarlouis – defeat in Hamm, hopes of final remain
On Saturday evening (30 May 2026, 7:30 p.m.), HG Saarlouis played their third match of the promotion playoffs at the WESTPRESS arena in Hamm. HGS lost 36:33 to ASV Hamm‑Westfalen but put in a committed performance for significant portions of the game to keep chances of a real final alive.
Saarlouis got off to a focused start, took the lead several times, and headed into half-time 14:13 up. The team initially remained within striking distance after the change of ends, until various missed chances and some strong saves by ASV’s keeper Colodeti tipped momentum. Hamm subsequently upped the score to 29:22, making the result somewhat a foregone conclusion. HGS fought on in the final stages and closed the gap, which could still be important if the final result comes down to goal difference.
Saarland’s top scorers were Yves Kunkel (7 goals) and Zeb Bjerneld (6), followed by Tom Paetow (5). Some 100 fans travelled with the team to provide them with vocal support and ensure an audible Saarlouis presence in the sold-out arena.
The situation remains open: if Braunschweig win their home game against Hamm on Wednesday, on Saturday (6 June, 6 p.m.) the Stadtgartenhalle will play host to a decisive duel against Braunschweig in the battle to be promoted to the second division. Provided that they win, goal difference will likely determine whether HGS ultimately finish in first place.
Füchse survive attacking onslaught to retain second place
On Friday evening (29 May 2026, 8 p.m.), Füchse Berlin defeated ThSV Eisenach 41:38 to confirm their strong starting position in the battle for second place in the Handball‑Bundesliga. The sold-out Werner‑Aßmann‑Halle witnessed a fast-paced match where both teams invested great effort in their attacks.
After an evenly matched start, Berlin increasingly took control midway through the first half. Mathias Gidsel shaped proceedings with eight goals before half-time, whilst Lasse Andersson made his mark among the defensive ranks. By half time, Füchse were leading 17:14. The match remained similarly intense in the second half. Eisenach pushed through multiple times but Berlin managed to respond at crucial moments. Gidsel (12 goals) and Andersson (10) ensured that the visitors extended their lead again in the final stages to secure their away win. Tim Freihöfer also impressed with eight goals.
These two points keep Füchse well on track in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
Things continue on 4 June with an away game against MT Melsungen, followed on 7 June with the season finale against Flensburg at the Max‑Schmeling‑Halle.
Saarlouis Hornets – spectacular walk‑off and confident sweep
On Saturday (30 May 2026, from 12 p.m.), the Saarlouis Hornets welcomed the Bad Homburg Hornets for a double-header at their home ballpark and provided a day of play brimming with drama. After an emotional first duel and a clear second match, the final result was a well-earned sweep and elevation to second place in the 2. Bundesliga Südwest table.
The first match against their namesakes became a real baseball thriller. Saarlouis took the lead at 9:3 after a two‑run home run by Florian Maaß and a strong offensive period before the final innings, but then Bad Homburg scored six runs to equalise to 9:9 and forced extra innings. The home team initially took a 12:9 lead. However, the Saarlouis Hornets provided an impressive response: with bases loaded, Max Raber hit a triple into the right‑centre field to chalk up three runs – and a defensive error allowed Raber himself to secure the crucial point for a 14:13 walk‑off.
Saarlouis left no room for doubt in the second match. Strong pitching by Peter Mick and an impressive performance by Giorgio Breme helped the team to secure a clear 12:1 win. This marked Breme’s first appearance of the season after his call‑up from the second team.
A tally of 9:5 wins puts the Hornets up to second place in the table and sends them into their next away double‑header on 4 June (from 12 p.m.) against the Darmstadt Whippets with the wind in their sails.
Saarland Hurricanes – first win of the season in Straubing
On Saturday (30 May 2026, 4 p.m.), the Saarland Hurricanes celebrated their first success of the new GFL season at the Donausportzentrum Straubing. The Canes were particularly impressive in the first half of their 21:16 away win against the Straubing Spiders and held their lead to the end despite a late comeback by the home team.
Straubing began the match with an astonishing onside kick, but the Hurricanes quickly responded: Tobias Scheibe intercepted a pass by the Spiders and initiated the first touchdown drive, which Malcolm King completed to secure a 7:0 lead. Shortly after, Joshua Youngblood increased the score to 14:3 with a strong punt return and another run to the end zone. Shortly before the break, Youngblood added his second touchdown of the day – and a long pass by Norman Douglas Jr. secured a 21:3 half‑time lead.
The match became significantly more turbulent after the change of ends. Both teams lost the ball and Straubing increasingly found ways to put pressure on the Hurricanes‘ defence. A touchdown shortly before the end of the third quarter and another in the final stages brought the Spiders to 21:16 behind. However, the two‑point conversion remained unsuccessful. The Hurricanes controlled ball possession in the final minutes, preventing the home team from gaining any further opportunities.
This 21:16 win gives the Saarland team their first points of the season and offers them a boost as they head into their next home game on 14 June (2 p.m.) against the Pforzheim Wilddogs in the Ellenfeldstadion.
Carrie Schreiner – chase and 30th place at GTWC Endurance race in Monza
From 29 to 31 May 2026, Carrie Schreiner and Tresor Attempto Racing lined up on the grid of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup in Monza. After a difficult qualifying and a chaotic start to the race, the trio of Gerhard Tweraser, Carrie Schreiner and Daniele Di Amato continually pushed forward over the course of three hours and secured 30th place out of 42 finishers.
Their start from 44th place on the grid was marked by numerous accidents on the first bend, allowing Tweraser to make up several positions early on. After a long period with the safety car, the vehicle initially dropped back until Schreiner took over at the first change of drivers. Her stint brought the team into the top twenty, including an intense duel with Lucas Auer, who she was able to keep behind her for long periods. During a full course yellow, she initially remained in the car, then Di Amato took over for the final stretch.
Another off‑track episode and numerous pit stops cost them places once again, meaning that the team ultimately finished in 30th place after a race of ups and downs. Given their starting position and the many interruptions, this result fell short of their full potential but demonstrated clear improvement under racing conditions.
Things continue for Carrie on 19-20 June at NLS 6 on the Nürburgring north loop.
