FCS Tischtennis celebrate wins in two competitions

1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis faced a double challenge last week – and returned from both the Bundesliga and the Champions League with wins. On Friday (16 January 2026), FCS TT defeated Post SV Mühlhausen 3:2. Without Fan Zhendong, Saarbrücken suffered setbacks, but Darko Jorgic kept his team in the running with two strong performances. Patrick Franziska and Cedric Meissner ultimately secured an away victory in the deciding doubles.

The Champions League quarter-final first leg against GV Hennebont TT came just two days later. Saarbrücken put forward their top lineup and secured a confident 3:0 win. Truls Möregard kicked off proceedings with a 3:1, Fan Zhendong upped the score with a top-quality match against Simon Gauzy, and Patrick Franziska added the icing on the cake with a clear 3:0.

‘It was a very tough match, so we are delighted to have won it 3:0’, Franziska said after the win. This result gives FCS TT in an excellent starting point for the second-leg match in Trier on 13 February.

It was a very tough match, so we are delighted to have won it 3:0.

SV Elversberg suffer late loss in Nuremberg – but remain in second

SV Elversberg had an intense start to the second half of the season against 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday (17 January 2026). The Max‑Morlock‑Stadion played host to a match with lots of twists and turns, where SVE took the lead twice but were ultimately defeated 2:3 by a goal conceded in stoppage time.

Nürnberg started by upping the pressure, but Elversberg put up a solid defence and continually needled their opponents. Tom Zimmerschied put SVE in the lead in the first half after some rapid transitional play. After an equaliser, Elversberg remained bold and pushed forward once again after the change of ends: Lasse Günther began an attack on the left flank which Jarzinho Malanga then completed to put the score at 2:1.

However, the home team managed to respond every time. Shortly before the end, SVE gained a promising opportunity from the penalty spot, but the ball refused to land in the net. Manager Vincent Wagner later provided a clear summary of the situation: ‘Then we missed the penalty and the match tilted away from us.’ A header by Nürnberg secured the final score of 3:2 shortly after.

Despite the defeat, SVE remain in second place after the weekend, as their direct competitors at the top of the table also dropped points.

Then we missed the penalty and the match tilted away from us.

Lots of guests, friends and fans came to experience this film on Doberstein’s sporting career, his formative moments and the long path to his world championship title. proWIN Volleys lose in Offenburg after hard-fought opener

On Saturday (17 January 2026), the proWIN Volleys  faced VC Offenburg in a 2. Volleyball Bundesliga Süd game. The Sporthalle Nord‑West played host to a duel that remained open for long periods, especially in the first set, but ultimately resulted in a 0:3 defeat for the Holz team (29:27, 25:20, 25:21).

The proWIN Volleys had a bold start to the match and kept the first set evenly matched through to the final stages. With the score stood at 23:20, it briefly seemed as if they were going to clinch the set, but Offenburg turned the situation around with a strong series of serves and secured a narrow win.

Holz continued to fight hard in the following sets but had to accept that VC Offenburg were serving and receiving more solidly, as well as more consistently exploiting crucial rallies. Despite some good periods and tight interim results, the Volleys were unable to turn the match around.

The team now face an intense weekend: on Saturday (24 January) Holz are playing host to MTV Stuttgart II, followed by a home game against TSV Unterhaching on Sunday (25 January), both in the Multifunktionssporthalle.

HG Saarlouis remain unbeaten at home – clear win against Münster

On Saturday (17 January 2026), HG Saarlouis sent another strong message in the Stadtgartenhalle. In front of 1320 fans, the table leaders defeated promoted team TSG Münster 37:31 (19:14) to defend their home streak, bolstered by their direct competitors failing to score points.

Saarlouis began at a fast pace and were already leading 7:2 a few minutes in. Although Münster became more stable after an early timeout, HGS retained control and headed into the break with a comfortable 19:14 lead. The away team briefly closed the gap after the change of ends, but never to less than three goals. Michel Fiedler and later Finn Zecher made their mark in goal whilst Yves Kunkel stood out with 11 goals scored.

Coach Jörg Lützelberger subsequently described this as one of their best performances of the season and particularly praised captain Tom Paetow, who played for almost the entire match after Marko Jelicic’s injury. The away team’s coach Daniel Wernig offered fair congratulations and said with a wink that he hoped ‘we might not have to come back here next year’.

Things continue for HG Saarlouis on Sunday (25 January 2026) with an away game against HC Düsseldorf in Ratingen.

BCB beat Wipperfeld to jump up to second

Sunday (18 January 2026) saw the Joachim‑Deckarm‑Halle playing host to a top Badminton‑Bundesliga fixture: 1. BC Bischmisheim welcomed 1. BC Wipperfeld – and secured a 4:3 win in an intense match. This home victory put BCB up to second place in the table.

Both teams had to improvise in terms of staffing, as there were international tournaments going on at the same time. For BCB, doubles specialist Marvin Seidel stepped into the men’s singles and provided an evenly matched duel against Matthew Grimley. After winning the first set and then suffering an unlucky fall in the second, Seidel had to forfeit the match due to injury. Team manager Peter Käsbauer said about the situation: ‘We hope that Marvin will only be out for a few days and that it is nothing major’.

The return of Frederik Søgaard create a very special energy in the hall. The Danish player quickly stepped up to become a match winner and won both the second men’s doubles with Mark Caljouw and the mixed doubles alongside Isabel Lohau. BCB’s other points were chalked up by Mark Caljouw in the men’s singles and Kalojana Nalbantova in the women’s singles.

A full match report can be found at HYLO® News.

Things continue for BCB with their next home game on Sunday 8 February at 3 p.m., when they will be welcoming SC Union 08 Lüdinghausen to the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle.

Saarlouis Royals celebrate home win to consolidate second place

On Sunday (18 January 2026), Saarlouis Royals continued their strong DBBL run and secured a clear 91:76 win against BC Marburg in the Stadtgartenhalle. In front of 800 spectators, including Saarland’s Minister-President Anke Rehlinger and national coach Olaf Lange, the team put in a mature performance and controlled much of the match.

Team play was particularly key: a total of 24 assists highlighted the team’s unity, with five players scoring in the double figures. National players Emma Eichmeyer and Jessika Schiffer played a vital role whilst new addition Egle Zabotkaitė immediately impressed on her first home appearance and proved to be a real boost. This win keeps the Royals in second place in the table.

The semi-final draw for the top four was also held during the half-time break. The Royals will be facing Alba Berlin, as they did last year – when the duel served as a stepping stone on the path to a cup win. The Saarland team will be travelling to Berlin in late February as the defending champions and with one clear aim: to make it back to the final. The other semi-final match sees Marburg face the current title favourites from Keltern. Both semi-finals will take place in Berlin on 28 February 2026. The final will also be in the capital, on 1 March 2026.

However, before then, the team have their next league match. On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Royals are playing host to Eisvögel Freiburg, who urgently need points in their battle to reach the playoffs.

We are looking forward to upcoming events and appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
