URSAPHARM Fight Night III on Saturday (28 September 2024) offered around 2,000 spectators in the hall an exciting, varied evening of boxing with various top-class preliminary fights, an interesting entertainment programme, and the final highlight of a main fight with Jürgen Doberstein competing for the world championship title. The time had finally come for the Saarland professional boxer in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle in Saarbrücken.

In an exciting 12-round duel, ‘the Dobermann’ beat Twaha Kassim of Tanzania unanimously on points (120-107, 120-107, 119-108) to secure the Global Boxing Council (GBC) world championship title.

‘I have spent 25 years working towards this boxing fight. My dream has come true’, an overjoyed Doberstein said after the fight.

The spectators in the hall enthusiastically hailed the new world champion. URSAPHARM Fight Night III was an unforgettable event.

SV Elversberg celebrates impressive 4:1 away win against Hertha BSC

On Sunday (30 September 2024), SV Elversberg faced Hertha BSC in Berlin’s Olympiastadion for a 2. The goals were scored by Sahin (2), Schnellbacher and Damar.

Coach Horst Steffen seemed very satisfied after the game: ‘The early lead definitely helped us, but we also played strongly as a team today.’

Things continue on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the URSAPHARM arena on Kaiserlinde with a derby against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, who also have nine points but have gone four games without a win.

Cycling without borders: BIKE AID conquers China

Saarland professional team BIKE AID’s longest trip so far ended on 28 September 2024 after 30 days in China. Saturday marked the end of the Tour of Huangshan (26 to 28 September 2024), BIKE AID’s second race in China after the Tour of Poyang Lake. With third place in the overall ratings, Yoel Habteab once again managed to secure a podium finish on the Tour.

The 20-year-old Eritrean was able to play to his strengths in the mountainous second and third stages and gradually gain time. Dawit Yemane had to leave early to compete in the world championships in Zurich, but Lennard Sternsdorff also impressed, finishing in tenth place in the overall rankings. The 19-year-old cyclist celebrated his debut appearance as a stagiaire for the professional BIKE AID team in China, after progressing well in the federal league as part of BIKE AID’s in-house development team.

Our detailed report has more information on BIKE AID’s global cycling tour, and the inspiring bridges and connections that this creates.

TG Saar narrowly lose season opener and sustain injury

TG Saar’s gymnasts began their new Deutsche Turnliga (DTL) season with an away match on Saturday (28 September 2024). They had to accept a narrow 32:34 defeat in an exciting first Bundesliga duel against runners-up TV Schwäbisch Gmünd-Wetzgau. The competition in the Großsporthalle Schwäbisch Gmünd offered spectators a thrilling showdown that remained evenly matched right through to the end.

Even in the run up, it was clear that this encounter would be a highlight of the new season. TG Saar, who finished in third place last year, faced a strong opponent who also boasted some top-class gymnasts, including Olympic competitor Andreas Toba. Despite the defeat, TG Saar put in an impressive performance to demonstrate that they will need to be taken seriously in the fight for a place at the season finals in their native Saarbrücken.

TG Saar suffered a severe setback before the season even began: Maxim Kovalenko, one of their top talents, broke his foot while jogging two weeks ago and will be out of action for a while. We would like to wish Maxim a speedy recovery and hope that we will see him back on the mat at full strength soon.

Saturday (5 October) sees TG Saar’s first home match of the season, when they will face TuS Vinnhorst in Dillingen. The competition begins at 6 p.m. in the Kreissporthalle Dillingen.

Bumpy start to the season: Royals narrowly lose

On Sunday (29 September 2024), the Saarlouis Royals began their new 2024/25 DBBL season with a home game against Herner TC at the Stadtgartenhalle in Saarlouis. Despite a strong defensive performance and exciting gameplay, the Royals ultimately had to accept a 66:72 defeat.

The Royals defended impressively and forced Herne into 22 turnovers. Nevertheless, these efforts were not enough to secure the win. After the game, head coach Matīss Rožlapa emphasised that the team had a few points to work on but were confident heading into their upcoming games.

Further details and a full game analysis can be found in our post-match report.

After their second-round cup game against MJC Trier on 2 October, their league competition continues on Sunday 6 October in Göttingen against Medical Instinct Veilchen BG74.

Füchse Berlin on the road to success: Champions League and Bundesliga wins

Füchse Berlin had two important games on the cards last week: on Thursday 26 September, they faced Fredericia HK in the Champions League, and Sunday 29 September saw them hosting HC Erlangen for a Bundesliga match. Read on for a summary of both exciting encounters.

Second Champions League away game and second win

On Thursday evening, Füchse Berlin travelled to Odense to play Danish runners-up Fredericia HK in the Champions League. The Berlin team put in an impressive offensive performance in an exciting game to win 38:32 (17:17). Coach Jaron Siewert’s team were particularly able to play to their strengths in the second half and decisively pull ahead. Lasse Andersson was the top scorer with eight goals, whilst Mathias Gidsel (like Swedish player Jerry Tollbring) hit the mark seven times.

Bundesliga: Füchse Berlin defeat HC Erlangen

Just three days after the Champions League, Füchse Berlin hosted HC Erlangen in their home Max-Schmeling-Halle.  Füchse Berlin finished their second home game of the HBL season with a 30:27 win. After a hard-fought first half, Jaron Siewert’s team pulled away in the second half to gain a well-deserved victory.

Headed by birthday boy Lasse Ludwig, who shone on his 22nd birthday with 14 saves and a 34% save percentage, Füchse Berlin were able to withstand Erlangen’s tough pace. The two Danish Olympic champions Lasse Andersson and Mathias Gidsel were the game’s top scorers, with eight goals apiece. In the second half, the visiting team benefited from numerous time penalties awarded against Erlangen and were able to decisively pull away. Despite an open exchange of blows in the final minutes, Füchse retained the upper hand and ultimately won 30:27.

On Wednesday 2 October, FRISCH AUF! Göppingen are visiting Füchse Berlin in the Max-Schmeling-Halle for the second round of the DHB Cup. On Sunday (6 October), the capital team face HSG Wetzlar for a Bundesliga match.

We are looking forward to upcoming appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
