Joshua Mees put Münster in the lead in the 21st minute, in front of 7,500 spectators in the Preußenstadion. SVE put in a strong defence performance and only rarely allowed their opponents dangerously near the goal.

Robin Fellhauer scored a well-earned equaliser for Elversberg in the final stages of the game, with a fantastic long shot that secured a vital point for his team. ‘We fought through to the end and earned our point’, coach Horst Steffen said after the game. Read more in our detailed report.

Füchse Berlin: narrow defeats in Lisbon and Melsungen

Füchse Berlin had a full week once again, with a Champions League match and a Bundesliga game. Both ended in narrow defeats.

On Thursday (17 October 2024)Füchse faced Sporting Clube Portugal in Lisbon for the EHF Champions League. Füchse were narrowly defeated 33:35. Despite lacking some key players such as Dejan Milosavljev and Mathias Gidsel and a questionable red card for Mijajlo Marsenic, the Berlin team fought bravely. Jerry Tollbring, Lasse Andersson and Nils Lichtlein scored seven goals each. Lichtlein suffered an unlucky slip in the final minute, preventing him from equalising. Despite the defeat, coach Jaron Siewert praised his team’s fighting performance.

On Saturday (19 October 2024)Füchse Berlin had a DAIKIN Handball-Bundesliga game against MT Melsungen, the top two teams in the league, which they narrowly lost 31:33 (13:16). Despite a strong start and an early lead, too many mistakes and slippery ground cost the capital team the win. Mijajlo Marsenic was Füchse‘s best scorer with seven goals. A 5:0 run put Füchse four goals ahead, but Melsungen fought their way back and headed into half time with a 16:13 lead.

In the second half, Füchse clawed their way back into the game, but some bad passes and throws prevented them from catching up. Despite a strong performance by Fabian Wiede and the first saves by Jungfüchse goalkeeper Elie Ona, this was not enough to secure the win. Füchse lost not only the game but also their leading position in the table.

Their next top game is being played at home on Thursday, when Füchse are hosting Paris Saint-Germain in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League at 6:45 p.m. They then head off for a Bundesliga away match, visiting promoted team SG BBM Bietigheim on Sunday.

Dramatic season finale for Team75 Motorsport

Team75 Motorsport had an exciting season finale at the Hockenheimring. This weekend (21 and 22 October 2024) saw the final race of the 2024 Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany. A hopeful start with prospects for the rookie title was followed by disillusionment in literally the final lap of the season.

From nowhere to the podium

Robert de Haan clawed his way up to the podium from a starting position of 24 in Saturday’s race. The 18-year-old driver from Eerbeek in the Netherlands came third in the overall rankings and topped the rookie rankings. His teammate Janne Stiak (17, Steinhude) finished in sixteenth place, narrowly missing out on points.

It was an action-packed race. By the end of the first lap, Robert had fought his way up to eleventh place, whilst Janne was in fifteenth. After a short period with the safety car, Robert continued his pursuit and ultimately made it to third place, having gained 21 places. Going into the final race on Sunday, this put him at the top of the rookie rankings. Janne was less fortunate and fell back to 21st place following a mishap, but fought his way back up to 16th.

Easy come…

Up until half a lap before the end of the final race of the season, everything was looking good, but then a collision in the hairpin bend of the Hockenheimring ended all title hopes for Team75 Motorsport.

In a Sunday race that was broken up by several sections behind the safety car, Robert gained second place right after the start and stuck to the race leader like glue. Up until half a lap before the chequered flag, this top result and a rookie title win seemed to be in the bag. But when braking into the hairpin bend, Robert’s final attack on the leader went wrong. There was a collision, and Robert and his damaged car limped to the finish line in twelfth, shattering his dreams of the rookie title. He then also received a time penalty and was knocked down to 18th.

Janne Stiak started the race well and worked his way up to eleventh place, but had to take his Porsche into the pit early due to a technical fault.

Team boss Jennifer Leising: ‘It definitely was not Team75 Motorsport’s day, and definitely was not the season finale we were hoping for. …Nevertheless, all in all it has been a good season. We have had lots of highs, some victories, and countless podium finishes.’

TG Saar on track for the final with home win against Siegerland

On the fourth day of competition in the Turn-Bundesliga (DTL), TG Saar gained a narrow 35:30 home win over Siegerländer KV. In a captivating competition on Saturday evening (19 October 2024), the gymnasts of TG Saar ensured huge excitement right through to the final seconds. Gabriel Eichhorn gained the final four points in the deciding duel to secure the win.

The competition began in promising style for the Saarland team, with a 10:3 lead on the floor. However, defeats on the pommel horse (2:5) and the rings (4:6) meant they headed into the break with only a narrow 16:14 lead. After the break, the Saarland gymnasts scraped a win on the vault (4:3) and earned a resounding one on the parallel bars (11:4). Despite losing on the horizontal bar (4:9), this was just enough for coach Eugen Spiridonov’s team to clinch the overall win.
