What’s new from the HYLO® Sports family
Our #hyloathletes have been doing their utmost once again this week. We take a look back at the last seven days’ events and competitions featuring our athletes, teams and clubs.
SVE make waves against Hannover 96
On Sunday (10 November 2024), SV Elversberg welcomed table leaders Hannover 96 to the URSAPHARMArena on Kaiserlinde. In a thrilling 2. Bundesliga match, SVE gained an impressive 3:1 home win that ensured an electrifying atmosphere in the sold-out stadium. Elias Baum put the hosts in the lead in the 10th minute, followed by a goal from Fisnik Asllani in the first half injury time. Muhammed Damar then increased things to 3:0 shortly after half-time. Hannover only managed a consolation goal in injury time, scored by Nicolo Tresoldi.
Coach Horst Steffen was delighted with his team’s performance and emphasised that it was perhaps the best match that Elversberg had played since he took up the role. The performance was particularly impressive given that some key players were out with injuries.
This success – their third home win in a row – put SV Elversberg up to sixth place in the table with 19 points on their ledger, and moves them closer to the promotion spots than the relegation ones. More details of the match can be found in our news report.
After a well-earned international break, SVE’s next challenge will be coming in the form of an away match against Fortuna Düsseldorf on 23 November.
Kai Gotthardt wins HYLO® PDC Europe Super League 2024
The HYLO® PDC Europe Super League 2024 was held at Halle 39 in Hildesheim from 5 to 8 November 2024. This prestigious tournament saw 30 of the best darts players from the German-speaking world competing for a starting place at the upcoming Paddy Power PDC World Darts Championship at the legendary Alexandra Palace in London.
Kai Gotthardt secured the title and thus also (for the first time) the sought-after ticket to the World Darts Championship. He narrowly defeated Paul Krohne 8:7 in an exciting final. Gotthardt beat competitors including Max Hopp, Franz Rötzsch and Dominik Grüllich en route to the final. ‘It is an indescribable feeling that every darts player dreams of. My dream came true today’, Gotthardt concluded after his triumph.
This win means that six German players have already gained a ticket to the World Championship – a new record. They will be raising the roof at Ally Pally from 15 December alongside our Saarland darts pro Gabriel Clemens.
The HYLO® PDC Europe Super League 2024 was a great success and has once again demonstrated the increasing quality of German darts.
Painful away defeat – TG Saar miss out on early ticket to the final
On Saturday (10 November 2024), TG Saar were resoundingly defeated 41:26 by SC Cottbus in a Deutsche Turnliga (DTL) match. A rule violation meant that the competition was subsequently rescored at 12:0 to Cottbus, resulting in TG Saar also losing their original apparatus points from the floor score they won.
This breach of the rules was due to Alexander Mayer sustaining an injury during the warm-up, as the Saarland team were forced to use three gymnasts without a German passport and thus violated the 2/3 rule.
Even without this changed score, TG Saar had a weak day of competition with 12 of the 24 total routines including faults. Only the initial round on the floor went to plan – the remaining apparatus, including rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar, were all won by SC Cottbus. As a result, coach Eugen Spiridonov’s team missed out on the opportunity to secure an early ticket to the DTL finals in Saarbrücken. TG Saar remain in third place in the table, but are closely followed by Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Cottbus. TG Saar will need to gain vital points in their remaining encounters against KTV Straubenhardt and Eintracht Frankfurt if they are to secure a place at their ‘home’ final.
Emotional rollercoaster for BC Bischmisheim
1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim experienced an emotional rollercoaster in their 1. Badminton-Bundesliga double-header at the weekend (9 and 10 November 2024).
On Saturday, the team faced defending champions and frontrunners SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle. Despite great efforts, BCB had to settle for a resounding 1:6 defeat. Only Mark Caljouw was able to gain a point for Bischmisheim in the men’s singles.
However, BCB came out in top form on Sunday to celebrate a smooth 7:0 home victory over 1. BC Beuel. All of the matches, including the singles with Mark Caljouw, Anja Strausak and Daniel Nikolov plus the doubles and mixed doubles, ended in confident wins.
Despite losing to Dortelweil, BCB remain safely in third place in the table. The team are now looking forward to their next game on 14 December, played away against second-placed team Wipperfeld.
