TG Saar: victory in Frankfurt and entry to ‘home’ mini final
On Saturday (30 November 2024), TG Saar celebrated a crucial victory against Eintracht Frankfurt to round off the regular season in the DTL federal gymnastics league. A vital 55:24 away win has secured the Saarland team entry to the ‘mini final’ at the DTL finals on 7 December in Saarbrücken. They will face Eintracht Frankfurt once again in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle to fight for the bronze medal.
The hosts in Frankfurt got off to an impressive start to take the floor section 12:1. TG Saar then showed remarkable strength of nerve to turn the competition around over the next few apparatus. The Saarland team won on the pommel horse and rings to gain vital points. Eintracht Frankfurt scored again on the vault, but Saarland regained control on the parallel bars and horizontal bar to secure a magnificent victory. The two Saarland athletes Oleg Verniaiev and Daniel Mousichidis were the most successful athletes in the competition with 13 score points each.
TG Saar finished the main season in third place behind KTV Straubenhardt and TV Wetzgau, who will be competing for the gold medal at the DTL finals on 7 December. Eintracht Frankfurt rounded out the season in fourth and will face TG Saar once again in the ‘mini final’ for bronze.
We are looking forward to an exciting DTL final and to welcoming countless fans to Saarbrücken on Saturday (7 December).
SV Elversberg lose to SC Paderborn in top game
On Saturday (30 November 2024), SV Elversberg faced table leaders SC Paderborn for a top 2. Bundesliga game. In front of 8,922 spectators in the URSAPHARM Arena on Kaiserlinde, SVE had to accept defeat 1:3 after an intense match.
The game began in promising form for the home team, when Muhammed Damar put the score at 1:0 in the 27th minute. However, Laurin Curda equalised for Paderborn just before half time. In the second half, the away team capitalised on their opportunities more effectively and emerged victorious thanks to goals by Koen Kostons and Calvin Brackelmann.
SVE‘s coach Horst Steffen appeared disappointed with the result but considered it fair. In his view, the equaliser before the break put a dampener on things, but at half time he still felt that the team was motivated to win the game. However, going down 1:2 made things difficult, as Paderborn put in a very clean and reliable defensive performance, leaving SVE few opportunities and ultimately deservedly securing the win.
More details of the match and other perspectives can be found in our detailed post-match report.
The team are now focusing on their next match, another home game taking place this week: on Friday (6 December at 6:30 p.m.) SVE have an opportunity to get back on a winning streak against 1. FC Nürnberg.
Surprising home defeat for 1. FC Saarbrücken TT
On Tuesday (26 November 2024), 1. FC Saarbrücken Tischtennis faced TSV Bad Königshofen in a Tischtennis-Bundesliga (TTBL) league match. In an exciting home game in the Joachim-Deckarm-Halle, FCS TT suffered a surprising 1:3 defeat.
The match began with a solely Japanese duel, where Jin Ueda clinched a surprisingly decisive three-set win over Yuto Muramatsu. Patrick Franziska was then able to gain a vital point for Saarbrücken against Bastian Steger, putting the score at 1:1 for the break. After the break, Eduard Ionescu narrowly lost to Filip Zeljko, and the next match saw Yuto Muramatsu defeated once again – this time by Bastian Steger in a thrilling five-setter.
Saarbrücken’s coach Wang Zhi appeared disappointed after the match and emphasised that it was not FCS Tischtennis’s day, and that things were not going well for Yuto Muramatsu this season. Despite the defeat, FCS TT remain motivated and are focusing on their upcoming tasks.
Read the detailed post-match report to find out more about the match.
The Saarland team’s next match is a home game against TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen on 10 December.
Successful week for Füchse Berlin in Champions League and HBL
On Thursday (28 November 2024), Füchse Berlin faced French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. The Berlin team won 37:34 (19:18) in a hard-fought game, securing payback for their narrow home defeat four weeks ago. Lasse Andersson was the top scorer with 13 goals. In a duel with lots of change of lead, Füchse held their nerve and their will to win at the crunch point – and gave the Parisians their first home defeat of the season. This win puts Füchse up to fourth place in the table, meaning they could potentially still qualify directly for the Champions League quarter finals as the first or second placed team.
Just a few days later on Sunday (1 December 2024), their schedule featured a DAIKIN Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) away game against their cooperation partner club 1. VfL Potsdam. In the shortest away trip in the club’s history, Füchse Berlin gained a confident 36:26 (21:12) win. Coach Jaron Siewert’s team put in a strong performance in front of 2,250 spectators in the sold-out MBS Arena. The coach was able to take advantage of a comfortable lead to make significant changes and give numerous players an opportunity to play. Mathias Gidsel was the capital team’s top scorer with seven goals. Goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev stopped one in three of the opposing team’s shots, securing ten saves. This win has consolidated Füchse position in third place in the HBL table.
On Thursday (5 December), the Berlin team are hosting Sporting Clube Portugal for a Champions league match, then on Sunday (8 December), the reigning champions from Magdeburg will also be heading over to face Füchse Berlin for a top HBL match.
Carrie Schreiner: 12th place in night race, Sunday race cancelled
Last weekend (29 November to 1 December 2024), Saarland racing driver Carrie Schreiner took part in the F1 Academy race in Qatar as part of the Campos Racing team. The sixth race in this women’s only series was held on the Lusail International Circuit, which also plays host to the Qatar Formula One Grand Prix.
In the night race on Saturday (30 November), Carrie Schreiner started in eleventh place and ended the race in twelfth. Despite a few issues, she put in a solid performance and gained valuable experience on this challenging track.
Unfortunately, the second race planned for Sunday had to be cancelled due to comprehensive repairs being conducted to crash barriers and fences that had been damaged during the previous race. Carrie Schreiner qualified in ninth for the race and was visibly disappointed about its cancellation. She regretted not having the opportunity to showcase her potential, and is now hoping to put everything on display at the season finale next weekend (6 to 8 December) in Abu Dhabi.
Saarlouis Royals celebrate home win against Panthers Osnabrück
On Sunday (1 December 2024), the Saarlouis Royals secured a vital home win in the Toyota 1. Damen Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL). In the first of two matches in four days against GiroLive Panthers Osnabrück, the Saarland team prevailed 81:66 to climb to third place in the table.
The match began in promising form for the Royals, when new signing Erika Davenport dunked the ball right at the outset to gain a 2:0 lead. After an evenly matched start, the Royals were able to strengthen their defence and eke out a lead of 26:18 by the end of the first quarter. The Royals dominated play in the second quarter and entered half time 51:30 ahead.
After the break, both teams started up with strong defence, and the away team made life difficult for the Royals. A handful of fouls by the Royals gave the Panthers numerous free throws, resulting in a 10:0 run for Osnabrück. It took the Royals more than five minutes to score their first points in the third quarter, but they regained a foothold in the match and extended their lead to 66:44.
In the final section, the Royals used their strong defence to force Osnabrück into turnovers and further develop their lead. Despite a late resurgence by the away team, Royals had the win in the bag.
The quarter results were 26:18 | 25:12 | 15:14 | 15:22.
Their next encounter with GiroLive Panthers Osnabrück is on Wednesday (4 December) for the DBBL Cup last sixteen. The two teams will meet once again in the Stadtgartenhalle in Saarlouis at 6:30 p.m.
We are looking forward to upcoming appearances from our #hyloathletes and wish all of our HYLO® partners much luck and success.
