When Jürgen moved to Elversberg in 1999, he and his brothers were invited to a training session by an Elversberg boxing club.

Boxers have to be versatile. Jürgen therefore trains two or three times a day to ensure that he is at his best in every area. Fitness and stamina, power, speed, concentration and reactivity are key elements of his preparations.

People generally start boxing by attending a training session with a boxing club. Many boxers begin training at a young age. Once they have gained experience and skill, they can then make the move to professional sport.

Technique is very important in boxing. It includes both punching techniques and defence techniques. Good technique can help punches land more effectively whilst also avoiding injury.

The basics of boxing include various punching techniques (such as jabs, hooks and uppercuts), defensive techniques (such as dodging and blocking) and footwork. A good level of fitness, speed and tactical thinking are also important.

Jürgen Doberstein does not have any role models, but there are boxers who have inspired him: Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and the style of Cuban boxing.

There is no set routine, as pretty much every training session is individually designed. The only element of routine is the training times in the mornings and evenings, and on some days also at lunchtime.

URSAPHARM Fight Night is a boxing event that Jürgen Doberstein and his team have been planning and running since 2022. As well as the main fight with Doberstein himself, this annual boxing gala also features attractive professional fights and a varied programme of other events.

Like any sport, there is a certain risk of injury involved with boxing. However, this risk can be minimised with the right training, suitable equipment, and adherence to safety rules.

The frequency of boxing training depends on each person’s individual goals and fitness level. For beginners, it might be worth having two or three training sessions a week.
