A brilliant year comes to a close: SVE meets KSC

On Sunday, SV Elversberg have an away game against Karlsruher SC to round off their 2023 footballing year – which could scarcely have gone any better.

Yes, the last two games were not wonderful, at least in terms of results. In Berlin, SVE was for a long time the better team but then suffered a comprehensive defeat. At home against Nuremberg, all that was lacking was efficiency – and FCN used this drop in focus to their advantage.

That is how things go in the second league. Horst Steffen’s team has already proven that this is exactly where they belong – and the hope is that the game in Karlsruhe will be the cherry on this year’s cake.

Things are not currently going entirely smoothly at KSC: there has been infighting at the club, and the Baden team are treading water in footballing terms. The last game against Hanover showed ‘why we are currently in this general area’, coach Christian Eichner noted in terms of the club’s table position. ‘We are missing the small details we need to make bigger progress in this closely fought league’. KSC has now had four games without a defeat. However, three of these ended in a draw, so they have not managed to improve their position in the table.

KSC will therefore also being throwing everything they can at this weekend’s match. The disputes between board members should have ‘no effect on the team’, Eichner explained. However, KSC needs a victory at the weekend in order to put themselves clearly away from the bottom of the table. SV Elversberg will be prepared – and are seeking to round off a fantastic 2023 with a success.
