Congratulations on the direct promotion – SV Elversberg straight into the 2. Bundesliga!

After the events of last weekend, SV Elversberg have definitively been promoted to the 2. Bundesliga. 

On Saturday (20 May 2023), one whole match day before the end of the 3. Liga, the team led by coach Horst Steffen achieved direct promotion from the Regionalliga to the second highest division of German professional football with a draw against SV Wehen Wiesbaden in front of a home crowd in the URSAPHARM Arena on Kaiserlinde.

When play came to an end just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, the atmosphere was already perfect. The final maths then emerged on Sunday following the results achieved by their competitors for promotion. SVE started in the 3. Liga as a promoted team, and is now moving straight on with a promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. The team from Saarland is only the fourth team in German professional football history to make the move directly from the Regionalliga to the 2 Bundesliga. After 17 years, a club from Saarland is finally back in the Bundesliga lower tier.

With the first 2. Bundesliga promotion in the club’s history, the Elversberg team is rounding off

a wonderful season during which they have electrified the entire region with inspiring offensive football and spectacular performances, causing a stir across the German football world.

As wonderful as this result feels, it is no real surprise. Instead, it is the fruit and result of systematic, professional further development work with the team and the club as a whole across all levels.
