Double header, double passion
Saarland Hurricanes start their chase in the second half of the erima GFL season
After a four-week summer break, the action is returning to Hermann-Neuberger stadium in Völklingen. On Saturday (20 July 2024), Saarland Hurricanes fans can look forward to an exciting double-header in the German Football League (GFL), Germany’s top American football division.
At 12 p.m., the talented young players of the Saarland Hurricanes U20 will be facing the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns youth team for the GFL Juniors. The U20 Hurricanes are looking forward to the vocal support of the PubliCanes and will be seeking to deliver an exciting, successful game.
Next up, at 4 p.m., the two clubs’ GFL teams will face each other. The Saarland Hurricanes, who are currently at the bottom of the GFL Süd table after a rough start and some significant injury issues, have taken advantage of the break to recover and reorient their strategy. Many of the injured players are now fit again and there will be some new faces on the team. Despite what is not currently an ideal position in the table, the CANES still have everything to play for. Half of the season is behind us.
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, who are currently leading the GFL Süd table, are the favourites for the game. It will be no easy task for the Saarland team to finally chalk up their first home win in their new home stadium. If head coach Jakob Lawrence’s squad is spared further injury worries and the newly formed team is able to realise its full potential, the Saarland Hurricanes can still hope for a successful season with the support of their fans, which could ultimately lead to a playoff place.
They will be seeking to lay the foundations for this in Völklingen on Saturday. We are looking forward to two lots of the Saarland Hurricanes facing off against two lots of the Unicorns and an exciting afternoon of football.
