Saarland Hurricanes
The Saarland Hurricanes are an American football club from Saarbrücken in Saarland. The club currently has eight active American football teams, ranging from the under 10s to the semi-professional GFL (German Football League) team, which recruits numerous players from the club’s own youth teams. Five cheerleading teams provide support from the sidelines, and appear in competitions on a national level.
The Saarland Hurricanes GFL team plays in the top German division (GFL1) and enjoyed its most successful season in 2021 with an appearance in the playoffs and the runner-up spot in GFL Süd. The Saarbrücken team’s aim is to reach the playoffs, and one day achieve its dream of winning the German Bowl.

There are five cheerleading teams that support the game from the sidelines and appear in national competitions. These are the Saarland Hurriflames, the Sparkling Flames, the Sensational Flames, the Shiny Flames and the Stormy Flames.
The Saarland Hurricanes song is called the ‘Canes Anthem’ and is a rap by Chesta DC & Mic Supreme.
Children aged five or older can join the Saarland Hurricanes. The littlest members learn body awareness, ball awareness, drop school, rules, discipline and team spirit. However, the main focus is enjoyment of the sport. The aim is for kids to learn flag football so that later on (in the U13s) they will be well prepared to begin contact sport.

The Saarland Hurricanes first team plays its home games in the Ludwigsparkstadion Saarbrücken. All of the other teams play at the club’s own field in Matzenberg in Saarbrücken.
