ENBW DTB POKAL – THE GYMNASTIC WORLD IS MEETING IN STUTTGART
After their first major highlight of the year at the ‘Turnier der Meister’ in Cottbus at the end of February, the next gymnastics extravaganza has arrived for the German gymnastics team and Germany’s gymnastics fans.
The 38th EnBW DTB Pokal, held from 17 to 19 March at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, is once again transforming the state capital into a gymnastics metropolis. With 48 teams from 19 countries, 19 Olympic athletes and a total of 64 world championship entrants, the event boasts a record entry list.
German fans will of course also be able to watch their favourites from the German gymnastic team. The German Gymnastics Association (DTB) is lining up with a strong team, a blend of experienced, well-established athletes and a few young, ambitious new arrivals.
Local heroine Elisabeth Seitz (MTV Stuttgart) and Andreas Toba (TK Hannover), plus newly crowned European balance beam champion Emma Malewski (TuS Chemnitz-Altendorf), are the mainstays of the German national team.
The 2023 formats once again promise high-level athletics and a very exciting competition. The Mixed Cup Stuttgart will be held once again following its success in 2022. Germany is meeting the USA and Brazil is facing Japan. Gymnastics events will be across four apparatus with two men and two women for each. After three apparatus, the interim results will decide who is in the final for the gold medal and who for the bronze.
The well-known Team Challenge will be taking place for both seniors and juniors. There have also been apparatus finals since 2022 – the best six juniors and seniors from the Team Challenge in each apparatus are entered into the final. Each country has just one entry per apparatus, meaning that six different countries will be represented for each. For spectators, this is an absolute highlight not to be missed.
The world of gymnastics reigns supreme in Stuttgart for three days.
