FIVE FÜCHSE, THREE WORLD CUP TEAMS AND A QUARTER-FINAL!

The preliminary and main rounds of the 2023 Handball World Cup are barely behind us, and the eight best national teams are already preparing for their match in the quarter-finals. Norway, Spain, Denmark, Hungary, Sweden, Egypt, France and Germany are among the front runners here – and with them five of the original eight participating professionals from Füchse Berlin.

Only three Füchse players failed to make it to the quarter-finals: Dejan Milosavljev and Mijajlo Marsenic came 11th after the final round with Serbia, Milos Vujovic finished the tournament in 18th place with Montenegro.

Max Darj has won all his matches so far with host team Sweden and will face Egypt in the quarter-finals, while world champions Denmark will take on Hungary at the same time with Darj’s teammates Mathias Gidsel, Jacob Holm and Hans Lindberg. The former also occupies fourth place on the current top scorers’ list, with the three better-placed players already eliminated from the tournament.

German international and Füchse captain Paul Drux missed the last main round match due to a cold, but he will be back for the quarter-final match against Olympic champions France and will give his all.

Spain and Norway are also fighting for a place in the semi-finals.

True to the motto “After the World Championship is before the EHF European League”, the Füchse Berlin will play their next home games directly after the World Championship, against HC Motor Saporischschja and Eurofarm Pelister.
