Germany’s gymnastics team brings home two bronze medals from Antalya

The German gymnastics team is back from the European championships in Turkey with two bronze medals under its belt. At the end of the title bouts, the German Gymnastics Association team once again enjoyed some pleasing and encouraging successes.

A year on from her title in Munich, after the bar final Elisabeth Seitz found herself back on the podium, this time with bronze for the uneven bars! For the Munich 2022 World championships gold medallist, this was further confirmation of her performance potential and another medal to add to her collection.

European championship first-timer Milan Hosseini astonished with a strong performance on the floor, securing the 21-year-old his first EC medal in the individual floor event finals. The only male apparatus finalist at these title bouts in Turkey was cheered on by his teammates, and ultimately hugely happy that all the hard work had paid off and his first European championship had been so successful.

The young male team’s other performances were also very pleasing. Pascal Brendel, just 19 years old, gave a strong performance in the qualifiers and all-round final of the European championship, and ultimately secured a position as a top-ten European all-rounder by coming eighth.

Both teams reached the minimum target to qualify for the world championships: the female German gymnasts took ninth place in the team rankings, whilst the male team came a strong fifth. Sarah Voss also competed in the all-round final of the European gymnastics championships and came a respectable 16th.

With their eyes on the road to Paris, which is hosting France’s Olympic Games next year, these European championships represented a good test of performance for the German gymnasts, who can now look forward confidently and optimistically to the tasks ahead. Olympics entries will be awarded at the world championships in Antwerp in the autumn. As the German Gymnastics Association’s sports director Thomas Gutekunst notes, there is ‘still much to do’ before then.

So let’s get started. We wish the gymnasts of the German team much luck and ongoing success at their forthcoming events.
