Hurricanes home opener – football comes to Völklingen
The Saarland Hurricanes are looking forward to their home opener this Saturday (15 June 2024) in Völklingen! For the second game of the 2024 erima GFL season, the Saarland footballers are playing at their new home stadium in the World Heritage Site town of Völklingen for the first time.
The Saarland Hurricanes will be welcoming the Straubing Spiders to the Hermann Neuberger Stadium in Völklingen for a game day in the German Football League (GFL), Germany’s highest American football division.
After a bumpy start to the new season and three away defeats already (most recently on Saturday with a score of 50:28 against the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns), the Canes will absolutely be seeking to make their first ‘real’ home game in the new arena a success story that goes down in the history books. Head coach Jakob Lawrence’s team have already gained their first home points this season in a match against the Razorbacks from Ravensburg, played at Sportcampus Saar in Saarbrücken. This one-off home venue had to be used due to the state gymnastics festival being held on the same day in Völklingen.
First game day in Völklingen
The day is finally here. The Saarland Hurricanes‘ first home game at the Hermann Neuberger Stadium stands to be a celebration for all Saarland football fans, a party for young and old, with something for the entire family. This new home venue allows the club to up its presentation of American football as a sport. The stadium has nearly 600 covered bleacher seats and a total capacity of 6,800 spectators.
Football as a family event: the Saarland Hurricanes‘ first game day in Völklingen begins at 1 p.m. with an exciting programme of events for young and old alike. The highlight of the day is the match between GFL teams the Saarland Hurricanes and the Straubing Spiders, starting at 4 p.m.
‘Football & fun for the whole family’ is the motto of the entertainment programme for the home opener. As well as intense and exciting game action on the pitch, visitors can also look forward to the following:

Family-friendly ticket prices
Thanks to the new situation, ticket prices have been reduced.
Entry is free for children aged up to 12.

- Seating ticket – bleachers: €12.00
- Seating area season ticket: €50.00
