HYLO® Team Saar begin the 2024 season with a new team and high goals

The new 1. Triathlon-Bundesliga season is just around the corner, and HYLO® Team Saar are on the starting line. After a strong season last year, where the team were runners up, all eyes will be on the new HYLO® Team Saar.

The team has gained experienced athletes such as Justus Nieschlag and Johannes Vogel, as well as young talent including Antoine L’hôte (SUI) and Aurelien Carre (LUX). Following the withdrawal of perennial champions EJOT Buschhütten, the Saarland team is this year’s top favourite for the title. But this is not something to take for granted – the other teams have also bolstered their ranks. ‘We want the title. We are no longer the hunter, we are the hunted’, as team leader Marc Trautmann explained their goals.

We want the title. We are no longer the hunter, we are the hunted.

The season begins on Saturday (25 May 2024) in Kraichgau. The kick-off event at Hardtsee (Ubstadt-Weiher) will be in the sprint distance (800-metre swim, 20-kilometre cycle, 5-kilometre run).

Other competitions happening at the same time mean that a few top athletes and DTU squad members will not be appearing at this league event. HYLO® Team Saar is likely to have Chris Ziehmer, Johannes Vogel, David Lang and Oliver Turner on the starting line.

Saturday also sees Tim Hellwig, Lasse Nygaard-Priester, Gregor Payet and Emil Holm competing in the Olympic distance at the WTCS Series event in Cagliari, Sardinia.

Things then continue in Kraichgau on Sunday – but not for the federal league: Justus Nieschlag, Jannik Schaufler and Valentin Wernz are competing in the Ironman 70.3!

Our Paris competitor Tim Hellwig will likely only have one federal league appearance, at the German Championships in Hanover. After Cagliari, he will initially be turning his full attentions to preparing for and competing in the Olympic Games in the Seine city.

Other federal league competitions are planned for 21/07 in Tübingen, 10/08 in a location yet to be set, and the season finale on 07/09 in Hanover (with the German Championships). The German Mixed Team Relay Championships will also take place on 08/09 in Hanover.

This season, HYLO® Team Saar have founded a women’s team in the form of TSV Amicitia 1906/09 Viernheim. This has allowed them to gain top German athletes Lena Meißner and Tanja Neubert for the squad. This means that Viernheim can compete in the women’s federal league, and enables HYLO® Team Saar to feature both athletes alongside two male competitors from the team at the Mixed Team Relay event in Hanover. With this lineup, the Saarland triathletes are also seeking to be front-runners at the German Championship event.

Tanja Neubert will be on the start line for the club in a women’s federal league race on Saturday.

Saturday (25 May) starting times: the women start at 5 p.m., the men at 6:30 p.m.

Lots of exciting triathlon moments await.

We would like to wish HYLO® Team Saar all the best as they begin the new season, and we are looking forward to exciting competitions and outstanding performances.
