Tim Hellwig FAQs

Tim Hellwig uses Vaseline to protect himself from the cold when swimming.

Tim Hellwig would donate the majority of his lottery win, and use the rest on ‘a desert island somewhere, away from stressful daily life’.

Tim Hellwig started triathlon at the age of 13. He completed his first swimming, cycling and running training at TV 1860 Mußbach.

IRONMAN is a protected brand name marketed by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The label covers triathlon competitions across two different distances, namely long distance and medium distance. Long-distance competitions are called IRONMAN and medium-distance events are IRONMAN 70.3.

The sports appear in the order of swimming, cycling then running.

Tim Hellwig is part of HYLO® Team Saar primarily because of the great atmosphere, and because he ‘grew up in the team’ in his early years. It takes an athletically strong team to be able to achieve exceptional team successes, demonstrated perfectly at the 2021 German Team Championships. With HYLO® Team Saar, he was called up to the Saarland triathlon squad at an early stage based on his athletic performance in the federal league.

Tim Hellwig finds running the easiest. In the summer, Tim Hellwig loves to wake up early and run through the forest.

Triathlon has various different distances. Here is an overview of the key differences, in the order swimming – cycling – running:

Taster distance: 250 metres – 10 kilometres – 2.5 kilometres
Sprint distance: 500-750 metres – 20 kilometres – 5 kilometres
Olympic distance: 1,500 metres – 40 kilometres – 10 kilometres
Medium distance and IRONMAN 70.3: 1.9 kilometres – 90 kilometres – 21.1 kilometres
IRONMAN and long distance: 3.8 kilometres – 180 kilometres – 42.2 kilometres

How long it takes to run the triathlon running stage depends on the distance and the athlete’s fitness. The men’s world record for all stages of the long-distance event is under seven hours.
