Season start & home match premiere for the proWIN Volleys TV Holz
On Saturday (16 September 2023), the new season begins for the proWIN Volleys women’s volleyball team in the 2nd German Volleyball League. Starting at 7 pm, the yellow and blue ball will fly over the net for the first time at the Herrmann-Neuberger-Sportschule Saarbrücken to kick off the 2023/24 season. Head coach Sergej Danilov’s volleyball team is eager for their home debut in front of their own fans, and has been looking forward to this moment since mid-July.
At the same time last year, the female volleyball players of proWIN Volleys TV Holz had started the season with many question marks. Relegation to division 3, a renewed squad of young and experienced players and home-growns who had made the leap into the first team, and a new coach.
One season later, many of these question marks have been long since eliminated. Through a more than successful 22/23 season, the Volleys have achieved a direct return to the top flight and are now back in their usual 2nd Division of the German Volleyball League this Saturday!
SV Lohhof is not an easy task for the volleyball players from Holz. This Bavarian team has been in the 2nd division of the Germany Volleyball Leage for years and the team from Saarland knows them well. The two teams met regularly back in the period from 2018 – 2022, with the volleys never having an easy time of it. “We have to reach our full potential on the court on Saturday and shed our respect quickly,” was coach Danilo’s line of approach.
At the same time, he can draw almost from a full complement of players at the weekend. Only the loss of top middle blocker Raegan Tjepkema is painful. She will probably be available again from the 2nd day onwards. “Team unity will be key. We also have to have a secure reception so that we can put our attackers in position again and again,” revealed the coach of the second division team from the Saarland.
“We are really looking forward to the home premiere, finally back to second division volleyball in the regional association of Saarbrücken. The whole volleyball department and the entire club have been working towards this for a whole year. For us as a volleyball location, the 2nd division is really valuable, because it gives our young team the chance to develop in the best way possible. It is also an incentive for the talented players from our sustainable youth work to develop there,” says Volleys Managing Director Steven Weber, looking ahead to the start of the season.
